I had a youtube channel for a while.

Imagine a job where your boss refuses to talk to you under any circumstances, can fire you at a moments notice and where you can go from making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month to making a few thousand, to making nothing at all if your channel is de-monetized.

Youtube can destroy your job for any reason at all, they have rules but they don't have to follow them and if they de-monetize, you have no way to argue your case for losing your entire "career" in a day. You are then relegated to working in mcdonalds or something since the skills don't really carry over to anything else.

Imagine a job where there are no limits, you can literally work yourself to death and nobody will stop you. You can work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and the more you work the more money you make so it's a vicious circle of working longer and longer hours, also it's a very lonely job where you sit in your house all day making and editing videos. You can't even take holidays or breaks because if you do youtube will start to derank your content and again, people can get sick of you and you can turn into leafy.

Youtube is a great way to make money in an unfair world but it's also totally unregulated and drives some people into wild depression and life ruination.

Here is why I think he did it:

He had a career on youtube where he was making a lot of money and he was incredibly stressed with it, he started to lose influence and his channel was slowing down. So he decided to cause some controvesy to get some attention back. Following this youtube de-monetized his entire channel, effectively firing him. At that point he realized he had no other avenue to make money other than what he was doing and no real friends either.
