And Spider-Man's gameplay is good and the story is as good as a rehashed superhero game can be, but the characters are absolute dogshit.

Most modern games don't give a shit about that, they either make games for gameplay with a bad or absent story like we're still in the 80s, or they make Hollywood movie-like stories with gameplay elements tacked on.
You can count on your fingers how many "big" games have meta shit like Automata's final boss hacking sequence reveal.

Its basically a watered down version of the previous title, with most of its weirdness and ideas ironed out for the average player, so that it could get more mainstream appeal.

In conclusion, if you are a FUCKING CASUAL, then its 100% ok to think of Automata as a masterpiece, but if know your shit, the you know that the original Nier was superior in basically all fronts outside of satisfying action and sex appeal.

Automata doesn't contain the keys for correctly deciphering and interpreting it. It assumes extensive prior direct experience with Nier, Grimoire Nier and Drakengard3. It is framed and marketed as an entry-point into Taro's works, but is actually nothing whatsoever of the sort.
Moreover, the kind of point it ultimately boils down to, in itself, borders on being unethical, although I wouldn't say it ultimately crosses the line.

The story is cheesy af and the combat isnt anything special , the world is beutifull and the aesthetic is great the OST is also pretty good . The characters are the main focus for sure if you take 2B , A2 and 9S out of the game is a 6/10 AA title at best. So do i think Nier:A is a masterpiece ? No i dont think so but im quiet impressed of how much of a succes it turned out to be honestly .
