I quite like her character design aside from the fact they made her face so moonish.

But Aloy is a likeable character. She tries to do what's right and isn't a "badass" more just a good person. Most Vidya protags annoy me, whereas I rooted for Aloy.

I'm not even going to lie to you. I beat this game and remember almost nothing about the story. She help save a kid from the raptor type robots, there was a training scene with her adoptive father and she just grew older during that scene.

Having an ugly MC is empowering, that's just what they went for.

Mary Sue or not, what makes her a terrible heroine is that every npc treats you nicely and talks to you like you have a hard earned reputation of being a nice person even if you've done no sidequests to help people or barely have a foot in the main story. People just assume you are the hero because as a player that's your fantasy.

Forgot how jarring this was since I last played Skyrim a bazillion years ago.
