Actually "Suddenly, gladiators" was still part of G1, just when the plot revealed the difference between "Matoran Universe" (Mata Nui's body) and the actual universe with other planets. Mata Nui later got robbed of his body and banished to that gladiator planet which happened to be the neighbouring planet to the ocean planet where his body was.

maybe this is a bit controversial, but my favorite areas in bionicle was metru nui. I loved how crisp and clean it looked, and the idea of a whole bustling metropolis city area was really cool. I was really saddened that it was basically a prequel.

The game was supposed to be fucking amazing, but both budget and dev time was cut significantly. That's why there are only certain Toa Mata/Nuva playable, despite both full sets being available in the gallery, and Bohrok just disappear from the story after you reach Gali.
They also modeled Gali's butt, which is amusing.

My brother and I had all the original six toa, all the bohrok except for Tahnok, and I even got the exosuit one Christmas. I also ended up getting Makuta, Takanuva and Keetongu in terms of big sets. Man those were some good times. I never got a visorak though, no matter how much I begged my mom for one. The last sets I got were the new toa with the sphere launchers. My mom was really great at getting me to read before I was in kindergarten by dangling Lewa in front of me like a carrot. All of our Legos are still around, somewhere. I gotta build some Bionicle.
