Just run a game you've obtained achievements for (preferably a game with a lot of achievements like Civ V or AoE II) for 30 minutes in the background and you'll get a shitton of points.
Or if you don't care about obtaining achievements legitimately, just use SAM.

The rules just state that you get a whopping 100 capacity for free every day if you participate, which would only get you like 1400 extra points.
Considering that there are people who are already getting multiple 5$ discounts just from their stockpiled good goy points I don't think they'll reset the capacity each day, since that would basically mean giving away ten thousands or more of discounts each day.
So you'll probably end up 12k short of even getting one discount.

Achievement value seems completely arbitrary. My 8 achievements in Downwell are worth twice what my 30 in Arma 3 are.

I did this with the launcher and found that it didn't work. You can easily launch it and alt-tab out though, which worked for me.
Also, having multiple games open at once works. Points from achievements is completely arbitrary so do it for any game you have achievements for even if its only a few.

You can get them from doing tasks in a few games or by playing (idling) any game with achievements for more than 30 minutes during this sale, the amount of points you get from a game depends on the amount of achievements you've got.
Tokens ARE points. You convert your points 1:1 into tokens by boosting. The amount you can boost depends on your capacity. Capacity increases with money spent on steam and DECREASES by 1 for every pont you've convertd into a token by boositng.
It's an overcomplicated process in which you convert your capacity into tokens, which you can then use to actually buy anything. If you want the discount you gotta buy a lot.
