Read my post again. TP was not a rehash, but it did build heavily on OOT's foundation. That's why I called it OOT 2.0, because it builds from the original and accomplishes feats the former never could.
People who think TP is a complete retread of Ocarina are either reductionists or are arguing in bad faith. Be that as it may, at heart the game does take heavy inspiration from its predecessor.

I've finally gotten around to playing it on Dolphin. The initial two hours of fucking village shit is so underwhelming, and then you get to a boring dungeon (although honestly I think the monkey gimmick is cute)

Glad there's someone else. I thought the game overall looked good at the time, but I wasn't blind. It came out while we had magazine shots of Sonic Adventure to look at. Ruto's boobs, Link's massive nose, epona's mane, those jank ass bottles etc all being made out of jagged pyramids were jarring even back then.

I'd say the game's broad strokes hold up visually still. But the details are awful.

It's a good game, but a mediocre Zelda game. Better than Squidward Sword and Zelda 2.

The tone is different but the textures in the 3DS remakes at the very least are pretty good across the board. I remember seeing a MM3D comparison and Grezzo did a pretty bang-up job, too bad about shit like water glowing for no real reason.

The game is slow and boring all the way through. The music never gets memorable, the dungeons are devoid of the charm of the previous two titles, and wolf link is never fun. They do add a bug hunt though. For wolf Link. Which is never fun. Yay.

TP was made by devs who were bored of the premise before they got started and the result is a mediocre game made out of what I can only describe as the embodiment of a yawn.

WW had excellent dungeons, the problem was that they weren’t nearly enough of them & the huge open world didn’t have enough content to compensate for the lack of dungeons

To a lesser extent, yeah. WW and TP were clear signs they didn't want to redo OoT but had no clear vision aiming them toward where they DID want to go either.

WW was the game they tried rebelling. Made it open and modular in some respects, experimented with the limited stealth OoT had a bit more, tweaked combat, and took on an art style that inspired them.

The result is a somewhat confused game with poor pacing but I'm strained to call it a yawn. There was some passion, if not as much as OoT was given, and not with the clarity of vision backing it.

TP is as I said earlier. Same issue. They clearly were bored with the formula they had just perfected in OoT 4-6 years prior and they didn't know where to go. Fans seemed to now want the opposite of Wind Waker visually, and OoT mechanically. So they caved and half assed both in this wholly underwhelming reactionary title.

If games had souls imparted to them by their creators, TP's is a child dragging its feet and complaining that its tired. WW's soul would be another child, this time at a carnival, complaining that they don't want to go on the same ride twice despite being the only good attraction there, and excitedly clamoring to go on a bunch of shitty rides.

Name an action adventure puzzler series that does all of what Zelda does better.
