Start with digimon adventures the movie which is kind of a prologue of the show that is set a few years before the show starts.
then watch the show and after watching the show watch the movie our war game which is an epilogue of the first season that is set after the original seasin ended, but before the kinda shitty second season.
After that watch the third season called digimon tamers which is set in it's own stand alone universe and competes with adventures for the title of best season.
If you are an Yea Forumsnon a cool tidbit is that the guy who wrote Lain and texnolyze was also the writer for digimon tamers so if you are familiar with his work you know you're in for some shit.

digimon has actually done many fan design contests in the past. some of the winners have gone on to appear in significant roles in the anime - cyberdramon, mummymon and dobermon all started out as fan designs.

I'm playing through cyber sleuth but I kind of hate it. The story is horribly paced (it feels like for every story-related mission there's 50 fetch quests for random digimon in kowloon) and the sheer jump in difficulty whenever literally any boss shows up (not even that they're hard to cheese it's just so obnoxious to go from having a good time beating on random digis and then getting curbstomped or having to abuse fixed damage attacks and revives since they can oneshot) makes me not want to play anymore.

Is hackers memory any better in this regard? I know it's a sequel or a mid-quel or whatever the fuck, but I'm not that worried about missing out on this story anyway. It's neat but frankly not enough to keep me trudging through on its own.

With some of the earlier things there were aditional tweaks to designs like Vermillimon having a proportionately smaller horn, Pidmon having less wings, or where some variants like DarkTyranomon and WaruMonzaemon had such divergent designs it is bad to call them recolors. And then you have weird things that happened like Gaioumon being designed as BlackWarGreymon X with a different design, only for a BlackWarGreymon X that was a straight color edit to come out later.

X-Antibody mons are simply Digimon that were infected with an antivirus to counter against one of Yggdrassil's plans to erase the Digiworld by infecting it with a virus still unknown. The X-Antibody makes them kinda stronger, as well as liberate their hidden potential far more quickly, with the issue of them possibly becoming more aggresive.

It had some cool concepts and moments, but it was heldback by the fact that it stayed a motw show untillnthe very end without really delving deeper into the concepts like some of the other shows like how Izumi and those boomer hackers from tamers were able to do cool shit within the digital world with their programming knowledge.
Overall a very gay kids show with some cool elements.

Like another user brought, the show for some reason skipped all the combined spirits power ups save for the main duo, so now they can't have 5 episodes to introduce those powers and shill products, so now they had to fill a 50 episode show with just two Digimon, and it seems like they couldn't do it.

Oh, and they couldn't use other royal knights as villains for that arc since back then, most of the extra one's not related to past protagonist evolutions didn't exist, those came out slowly for the next 20 years.

That's not unusual. Power and levels aren't strictly linear. There are some Perfect-level Digimon who can fight on par with Ultimates. Lucemon is an excellent example of this, as even as a Child-level Digimon, it can beat most Ultimates.

A Digimon's evolutionary level is generally only an indicator of its stage of growth. There are some Ultimate-level Digimon who are just as strong as Super Ultimates. Alphamon is one such example.

Yeah, but that was all the time in Frontier and Xros, it's normally consistent in other shows, save for really special Digimon like the one's you mentioned.

Xros just changed how it worked, there you're born in a form, then age into stronger forms (the manga retconned this with a different explenation, Digimon "forgot" they could evolve).

Evolution was a thing in Frontier, they just ignored it since the main cast wasn't using it.

The central issue with Frontier is that the actual power of Spirit Evolution was never properly defined. But if we compare them to the Digimon they fight, we can probably make some estimates.

In the case of Ultimate-level Digimon, there's a tremendous variety of power differences between different species. An Ultimate-level Digimon can be as weak as Saberleomon or as obscenely strong as Examon. Ardhamon is stronger than Seraphimon, but is completely no match against Holy Knights, which are tops amongst Ultimates.

I love that X-Antibody Digimon are being brought back in the modern era. After 2007, X-Antibody Digimon were nowhere to be seen. 2018 was the first instance of X-Antibody in well over a decade, and now we have dozens.

I am more of a ZeedGarurumon fan, but I agree MetalGarurumon X is superior over the original.

Frontier had an inconsistent power scale, but that sounds about right. Do note though that this is only the case for Agnimon and company. Canonically speaking, Lowemon (the human darkness spirit) is as strong as Ardhamon.

And lets not forget Kazemon, who lost her first fight against a Woodmon. A fucking Woodmon.

I just want a Digimon game to actually have all the Digimon in it for once.

Saberleomon is from a time when just being an Ultimate-level Digimon was enough to make you one of the strongest, since there weren't as many back then. Over time, though, many, many more Ultimate-level Digimon were created, and different classes in power arose from that. Saberleomon is no longer special.
