3U is a gutted shitmash of Tri and Portable 3rd, there's no reason to play it over those two. I can't comment on 4U because I never played it but it has mounting so its probably fucking terrible.

World was just a really great experience. It has its faults, especially with high-rank, but the open maps are something that it always should've had. Environmental effects are prone to abuse but they're cool as shit all the same, not to mention the environments themselves are 10/10. Getting to the Coral Highlands for the first time is up there as one of my favorite experiences with the franchise. FU is the definitive old-gen game, but I can't enjoy it as much anymore when I'm a SnS main and the lack of later polish makes everything feel clunky.

long time MH nigger here, started with freedom 1 in 2006 when I bought it, MM powered up, 2 sticks of DDR2 RAM and a psp 1000 from a weird chink in an SUV off craigslist.
Gen 1 and 2 are peak MH.
The "clunkyness" and le broken hitboxes are what make them good. Every fight is a challenge and thus you're actually forced to learn how to fight each monster.
When you get good a recking a specific monster it feels fucking amazing.
3U kinda kept that but 4U is just shit
EVERY single fight in 4U is

It's fucking boring. You don't have to learn to dodge because the hitboxes are TOO good now.
