I enjoyed the worldmap mechanics in Medieval 2 more than what they do now with regions and capitals. But yea total war games are still pretty enjoyable 13 years later. Wish they'd bring back the cutscenes though like from shogun and medieval.

To be honest, I'm glad that a few of them are dead or are completely different series now. Considering what their former devs/studios have done as of late, or how the company who owns the IP treats requests about it, they're better resting in peace.
As for ones that are alive:
Etrian Odyssey seems like there's a future for it.
MegaTen is also alive.
Every other minor series seemed to do fine.
