You're thinking too small. Remember, a vidya adaptation would not (and honestly should never) recreate the source material's story word for word, because that restrains the interaction too much. Shonen as a genre really boils down to problem solving and figuring out how to beat a certain foe despite their amazing powers.

Think about how every Dragon Ball Z game handles Goku vs. Raditz. Not a single one gives players the freedom to naturally arrive at Goku's sacrificial solution to beating him. You just beat him up and then a cutscene plays. Or at best there's a bad minigame where Piccolo has to line up his beam attack.

Anime games need more player agency, more interaction. Improvisation is the soul of shonen. So stop making the games so fucking scripted.

I really don't get OPM's popularity. It works alright as a gag manga, but I feel as though the author REALLY wants to make it a proper battle manga when that goes against the whole premise. Like it worked as this dumb bullshit with literal stick figures, but the big, detailed 2 page spreads and meticulously animated fight scenes are all kind of wasted on a series that revolves around a dude who literally can't have a satisfying fight scene.

No. I simply cannot condone a game where you play as Saitama. Saitama's whole existence is that he is basically all powerful, if you take that away, really, what else is there? Who is he without that, really? I agree with you on game deviating from the source plot, but that would far, far too much. But if you keep the one punch mechanics, it wouldn't be fun. I think the solution is just to not have Saitama be playable, or at least not the main focus.

But it looks good though. And there's plenty of other characters to show off cool fight scenes.

Open world hero/monster game woulda been neet. Start as hero wannabe, go up hero ranks. Start as monster wanabe, go up monster ranks. Avoid Saitama/help/play videogames with saitama, random mission generation across cities. Building destruction for amazing battles. Intricate hero/monster character creation. Coop with teammates.
Shit maybe even go full fledged MMO like city of heroes/villians and add in Monster/Hero PVP, or just a game mode non MMO.

The way OPM would work is make it literally DBFZ, Saitama is the dummy character when you go into training mode, the announcer of fights is saitama, you can male him a stage hazard, if you knock the opponent off stage he's literally just hanging out and you bounce off him, if you press a specific set of keys you can actually choose saitama but the match isn't "valid" and is disabled online, has a complete moveset but can't be showcased because every hit kills you instantly

What about a game with two story modes: one for Genos and one for Saitama? Genos' is built around getting upgrades and improving to fight adversaries, and Saitama's is just fucking everything with meme punches.

Throw in some silly shit like racing to a sale, as explosions from the fight that saitamas going to arrive at eventually happen in the background, have him play a game in the game against the king, ya know, mundane shit for Saitama, fighting for Genos.

Hear me out, what if playing as Saitama in a Musou was more like puzzle and strategy based. Like the more you defeat enemies the more bored you get, pretty much mirroring the actual player's feelings.Villains and monsters just keep coming and blocking your way and the more you fight the less fun Saitama has

So you have to figure out how to beat the mission as quick or as few enemies as possible. You could even have enemies that are kinda fun that replenish your boredom meter, and have their ragdolling corpses take out other enemies too.

A OPM game where Saitama is playable is doomed to fail.

All the S class heroes die pretty quickly except Metal Knight and Maybe Flashy if he runs away while everyone else is dying. Boros finishes blowing up the hero association for good and continues with his invasion/searching for Saitama. Psykos and the monster association reveal themselves to try and kill Boros, as Psykos would immediately assume he's the God level threat she foresaw in her visions. They all get obliterated as well. Saitama eventually catches up with Boros and kills him immediately with a serious punch instead of humoring him due to the amount of deaths he has caused.

Should I even pick this back up? I remember reading up to just after the exam but haven't touched it since. Haven't started the anime.
