I beat the Oxide time for this tonight and I can attest that it's a bitch to get consistently. You want to jump off the left of the half-pipe first because you're going to need the momentum from landing, and then approach the ramp below the shortcut as straight on as possible. If you try to drive up the ramp and jump from an angle there's no chance of you gaining enough height to make it. Don't jump too late either or you'll hit the floor of the opening as you're ascending. Good luck user!

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not enjoying it.
I waited months for this, and the gameplay is excellent. But the Wumpa Coin drops are really pissing me off. I have no interest in playing online, but I practically have to in order to get more than peanuts after each race.
The problem is online play is fucking broken. I can't count how many times I've been hit by invisible bombs and beakers. I got hit by three warp orbs in one lap of Electron Avenue. I once started a race on Polar Pass, and it just... never happened. I was stuck on the screen before the race starts. It's so fucking broken and unbalanced.
After much frustration, and the 2000 coins I got for preordering it, I have every Pit Stop character but N. Trance unlocked. Guess what, though? N. Trance was the only fucking character I actually wanted to play from the Pit Stop, and he's locked behind an expensive as fuck bundle that I'll never be able to buy because it takes forever to make even 1000 coins if I don't play the broken, unfun online mode.
It's getting to the point where I'm getting constantly frustrated at the fuckups Activision is pushing on this game every time I play it. I've decided I'm not playing CTR anymore until they either fix Wumpa Coins in offline play, fix online mode, or both.

Shitposting aside, he's right that some things could be improved upon for online. Honestly right now I'm just thrilled that we dodged a bullet and got a pretty damn good remake out of the deal, it could've been much worse and it would have been in the same shitbin as TSR.

Am I the only one finding the shortcut much more difficult with speed characters? I can't seem to make it without using halfpipe shenanigans. Had the same issue in the original CTR when I was playing it a few weeks ago and ended up just using Pinstripe for Oxide's ghost into of Dingo.

I was enjoying it until my save got corrupted cos the game is poorly made. Luckily I decided to carry on, restart everything and then got 101% and beat 25 of the time trials. Then my game crashed and corrupted my save again.
So I said fuck it I won't bother with unlocks. I went online and caused everyone in the lobby to DNF 5 times before they all left.
I then joined another lobby and we chose Dingo Canyon. I overlapped 2 people and then 3 blue orbs were shot withing a span of 5 secs. Came first, closed the game and pretended I never wasted my money on this pile of shit.

I don't care about the cosmetics you retard, I care about the fact that half the content that was advertised is locked behind an online store with online currency despite being on the damn disk, and the fact that it takes forever to unlock any of it. And then, if I finally save up 7200 coins just so I can play one fucking character, turns out the bundle just isn't available on that day. Why the fuck is the Pit Stop online and rotational if the content we unlock is on the disk?

Half of the characters in this game are locked behind it, and it takes fucking forever to get any of them, even though they easily could've made you unlock them through in-game activities like the original CTR characters. I'm heavily criticizing the game because half of the marketing for this game relied on how much customization was in it, and how many unique options we had for every player, but that turned out to be a fucking joke because if you want literally anything more than the base roster and shitty recolors, you have to grind for entire days, or use the broken online. And you're stupid if you think the online play isn't broken. The items are completely unbalanced as opposed to offline play, I can't go a single race without getting Warp Orbs and Clocks out the ass, and getting hit by invisible items.
You're blindly defending shitty business practices from a shitty, money-grubbing company, because the game it's happening in is Crash Team Racing. They're going to put microtransactions in a 40 dollar game and you're going to defend it because it's a crime to insult The Best Kart Racer Ever.

Waiting 1 minute to start a race is way too long. Reduce it to 15 seconds, and if anyone is customizing their character, let them finish within 30 seconds. When everyone is ready, start the race.

It's some serious fucking bullshit user, always has been. I actually expected Beenox to add a full 10 seconds or so to the time to make it easier, but nope, they kept it as is. At least using the USF is a bit easier now.
I think the best way to handle the boxes at the end is to get them all in lap one so that you don't have to slow down at all in lap 2, that's what I did in the run I finally got the plat at least. Other than that, it's just self-explanatory, though extremely hard - you need to play almost perfectly.

Hard mode races are more difficult than Tropy ghosts for the most part. Only done like two Oxides so can't speak for that though.

-It IS time trials screwing things up.
-And it is a PS4 only issue, because as the post stated, the game will fail to recognize that it has to hold records for 32 tracks and not 31.
-This is because of the Retro Stadium Track that's exclusive to that version of the game.

Personally my save got corrupted the second I beat Oxide's ghost in sewer speedway. I made it through the retro turbo track without it corrupting.

retro turbo triggers the bug but doesn't corrupt the save unless it's the last ghost you beat

No it doesn't. Your save file MIGHT get corrupted if you have bad luck and it could happen anywhere really. People have had their saves corrupted both in adventure mode and in time trials. I've cleared adventure mode 101% and beaten all of Oxide's ghosts without corruptions and so have other people so it's not guaranteed in any way.

It's not Retro Stadium itself that's the issue, by default the game only recognizes the record for the 31 tracks that are in the base game. Because of this, if you already did Retro Stadium and saved a normal track for last, then it will still trigger the save corruption.

I think I've finally nailed the technique for the Sewer Speedway shortcut. It seems so unintuitive in this version, I'm still mad that they botched one of the best tracks.

Other than grinding coins it's going good.

This is something pretty gay I've noticed about the game. The collision for the walls extend out to the farthest part of the wall, in this case the little rail along the ground. The same thing happens in Papu's Pyramid when you're going up the pyramid.

You can adapt to character classes you're used to in a lot of cases, but generally speed characters excel in wide tracks where you can do a lot of straight line drifting, handling is better for stuff like Tiny Arena or anything with lots of sharp turns.
Just experiment what works for you.

You'll also be getting an early unlock for Crunch, Oxide, Zem, Zam and Oxide's Hovercraft, which can be obtained in the standard editions.

You could use them in hot air skyway, papu's pyramid and electron avenue among other maps if you're good at U turning and approaching turns near perfectly.
Use all rounded types for everything else.

I've had situations where I would land after the initial ramp and lose it straight away. Also after the first turn on the new lap doing the same 2 boost into hop into slide it would sometimes drop and sometimes not. I really don't want to go back and do Oxide times.

Why does N. Trance look so much like unmasked Darth Vader in that costume? Combine that with the black hovercraft and I'm honestly getting a lot of Vader vibes from that. Yes. It's a good game. Adventure Mode is still tideous imo. Time Trial mode is actually fun, it tests your skills. That way you can learn the track easier when you start going up against pros online.

The only negatives are the load times.

Perfect boosts add to your reserves while "good" boosts basically add nothing. Well they technically give you some but it's off set by the fact that drifting actually drains your reserves and a "good" boost doesn't give enough to compensate for the drift.

Just realized this as I was done complaining. Got the BOOM trophy in an instant when three CPU players piled up and I shot a bomb in the middle of them. Only one I'm missing is the beaker one which I can cheese in battle mode because I have two controllers.

I have no idea. I honestly can't believe how common that trophy is. I've played the original CTR over 10 years and I've been able to hit an opponent with a thrown beaker ONCE on accident. I have no idea how I'm supposed to do that without cheesing.

Just fail the start line boost against hard CPU players on a track with a narrow path, like Pyramid. That'll make sure you aren't in 1st, and on that track, the CPU's probably won't spread out all that much. If you don't get a bomb early, you may just want to reset.

I would say in order of difficulty it would be

>papu's pyramid
>blizzard bluff
>tiger temple
I'd say tiger temple is easiest because his maxed handling hinders him a bit in the straight parts. Blizzard bluff is a close second because if you can actually manage to jump over the railing you'd beat his ass even if you were to not take the actual shortcut for 2 laps.

Its the same content we had years ago. The only difference here is that people are obessed with showing everyone else what they're doing so it is very important them to buy and play the new version. The multiplayer is just as pointless as I imagined. A speedrunner tier player will just crush most of the people by a lap and if they ever get an equal opponent it will be nothing but painful RNG on who wins and who doesn't and then it is only a matter of time for people to accept that time trials are the only pure form of racing.

I have all plats and the Blizzard Bluff jump is second only to Sewer Speedway in my tier list of horseshit shortcuts I almost never get. FUCK that jump, I have so much difficulty with it.

I was curious because I was playing the OG CTR and Oxide turbofucked me for hours in Blizzard Bluff and Papu's Pyramid. Tiger Temple was almost as grueling, but I somehow cheesed him in Dragon Mines by using the minecart shortcut.

I cleared adventure mode, played some arcade cups, and did time trials. Haven't even done all the tracks to unlock tropy yet but beat the oxide times on the tracks that I have done.
Just keep playing. If I can do it in time trial mode resetting when I fuck up and getting no coins from the reset, so can you.

Adding onto this, re doing the same track is efficient because the load time is significantly lower than picking a new track. If you dont reset you'll be getting optimal coin payout for time invested. Plus no opponents to slow you down so get that usf

I haven't done it myself but apparently you just start a free trial as long as you put in your credit card information and remember to cancel it before the trial ends. At least they're not making OC mutants outta nowhere, nice to use pre-established characters in a new light. Like each character has their own attributes that let them explore new parts of each level.

Not entirely true. Basically, the game only thinks it has 31 tracks since the Retro track is PS4 exclusive. So you can only do 31 trials, doesn't matter which. Once you do that 32nd the game has a fucking stroke.

It's nonsense like this that makes me a little happy the Switch doesn't have achievements.

I did a full three laps of drifting round Coco Park, no achievement. Every drift succeeded, seamlessly chained together, didn't hit any items, etc.
Then I just wiggled around a bit with no boosts and got the achievement as I entered the tunnel.
Maybe it doesn't absolutely REQUIRE no boosts, but I'm sure it makes it a lot more fucking consistent since I've been sliding through this entire fucking game yet I hadn't gotten the trophy until now.

from what i remember the PS4 crashes often, regardless what you play. people said the corruption happens when the system crashes, it might be a glitch in the game but not ruling out the console itself is ill-reliable.

God I wish I could do that turn at 0:32. It's the only thing destroying my races in Hot Air Skyway. You make it look so effortless but I just can't pull off that mid-air turn at that part even if my life depended on it. I can do it with bigger jumps when I have more time to pull it off but there, not a fucking chance. I have a strategy that works like 1/3 of the time at most but it's not consistent enough to use online and it pisses me off.
