I am 100% sure this is a convoluted, messy attempt of connecting with the current BFA storyline of the Night Elves where Shandris got Dark Ranger'd. Blizzard is trying to be clever and sell the Night Elves to every last WoW babbi that somehow cannot wrap its meagre brain around Shandris popping up in the campaign and not being a Dark Ranger.
We have the actual face of the real Night Elf archer unit as an icon on the official page that navigates between the races. We have similar icons for humans with the footman, the orcs with the grunt and the undead with the ghoul, and they all look exactly like that.
It's obvious they were thinking too hard on that one and were too focused on shoving fan favourites everywhere rather just following their own formula and deliver just advertisement material.

Dota 2's map creation tool is far far harder to use than WC3's.

The remake team is composed entirely out of fresh hires who never played a Warcraft game apart from WoW. Some of them started with Mists of Pandaria and decided the cinematic for the expansion should be the defining aesthetic for the series.

Graphics are optional, it's a setting you can turn on/off. There are way too many resources available at hiveworkshop for anyone serious to switch to new graphics, mixing the two would look really off and lazy.
The customs are doing very well this very moment, the mere announcement of reforged brought back a lot of people, and everyone can host now too, you don't have to fuck around with bots which may not have your map uploaded or with ports.

I still remember when i saw that preview at blizzcon. They were actually excited and almost proud to state that they thought MoP was a great start point for the design going forward.
Back in 2012 when i first saw that MoP cinematic i slightly cringed at the forced comicality of it, with the panda slightly adjusting that wooden statue that the orc ripped out and both the orc and human being intentionally made to look like idiots.

Blizzard probably never really thought it through *where* other demon hunters come from apart from Illidan. They just generally describe them as Night Elves that were willing to use the enemy's magic against them in a society that generally rejected magic, at all, or only under strict regulations that more or less gutted it to the point of uselessness.
The reason we only see male demon hunters in the game is fairly obvious, isn't it? They designed the hero-units' models after these three/four named characters for their lore, and then just copy/pasted those models into the skirmish with a different voice actor (if at all).
The written part is that there exists a fringe group of Night Elves using demon magic to kill other demons. Technically, that's just WoW warlocks. Considering Illidan himself has also only ever been a caster from what we can tell in the War of the Ancients trilogy and then spent 10'000 sitting on his arse, I'm surprised they didn't immediately jump to the opportunity to give us Night Elf warlocks.

Its the same with ingame zones, there are so many people that actually believe the zones and cities are that small in "reality" when in canon they are all massive. Ashenvale alone for example is said to be the size of France,Germany and Poland combined(about 1250 miles length to length) in canon.
I love the truly good RP'ers who take travel time into account and accurately plan things to that travel time. The reality is the journey by boat from eastern kingdoms to Kalimdor or Northrend takes 4-6 weeks as established in WC3 or that the ride from Stonard in Swamp of Sorrows to Redridge takes 24 hours at fast march without rest. In canon Dazal'alor for example is an enormous temple city pic related.
There are so many people that don't realise details like that.

Chronicle is a great series well worth the price for the 3 volumes for any fan of the franchise. Hopefully they do a Chronicle vol 4 at some point for everything from Cataclysm to Legion.

Yeah they retconned it for TBC sadly. While Black Citadel was heavily implied to be what is now Hellfire Citadel they changed it to being the Black Temple location and Magheridon was instead taken beneath the old orc citadel in hellfire as a prisoner.

It's one of the reason they are using a WoW style dynamic changing campaign map for the reforged edition to cement where everything is now and make the 62 campaign mission maps look like their canon counterparts as the cutscenes and scenery for everything is going to be so different.
I can only assume what a nightmare it is to go back and edit the WC3-TFT campaigns to fit the additions added in the 17 years since they released.
