Gooey is almost an exact clone of Kirby gameplay-wise with the only difference being he has a lick instead of an inhale. He could easily be an echo of Kirby, all he needs are all-new animations. The moveset can work exactly the same.

Magolor as a floaty, true spellcaster-based character would be interesting in terms of moveset classing. In theory also has enough presence in new Kirby titles to warrant some >relevance.

And Adeleine as a weaker character that has great potential for setting up traps with paintings. She's a bit of a fan-favorite and would work as a pure fanservice character to go with Magolor's >relevance.

Smash's bias for Kirby lies completely within the like 5 games Sakurai directed. The Dark Matter trilogy and modern Kirby get effectively no representation except a couple of final smashes, there should be some kind of fourth character but that won't happen because all the good candidates except le epic meme jester that Alpharad wants in are from non-Sakurai kirby games.

If he plays similarly enough he would be. It's not about how different they look, but how similarly they play. Gooey is the same exact size as Kirby, he can do all the same attacks, so just having all unique animations (which Dark Samus already has) wouldn't make him not an echo.

Kirby 64 is my favorite Kirby game and doesn't have a stage or even a single spirit. Super Star and Adventure are alsp in my top 3 but come the fuck on Sakurai.

Dark Samus only has a handful of unique animations, adding new animations for shit like grabbing, pummeling, kicking and punching is completely different and if they added a new lick attack instead of the suck would already make him more than just an echo (even if you take it from Yoshi, which doesn't really fit Gooey's style of licking)

It's functionally just an inhale, but one that has to be timed since it can't be held. Could give it a bit more range to balance that out. And echoes having altered specials isn't unique, look at Chrom's up special.

It's not just about the function, but also how it looks, if they're giving this character a completely new move that just kinda sorta works like this other move then it's probably not an echo anymore and they might as well just make it its own character.

Throwing a sword slightly differently is way less work than giving a character a new move.

Like the other guy said, it's mainly just people on Yea Forums who hate on Bandana Dee for not being their favorite character, having a bigger demand and chances of being in and/or simply being pretty boring in terms of design and play style. (he is technically the Toad of the Kirby series and even if he has a spear that's not more interesting than a wizard, a ball of goo or a painter loli)
Either way, you can't deny Bandana Dee is pretty popular and I just simply do not see any other Kirby character getting in before him, even with the Sakurai bias. I have a theory that there are people who want him in solely so all the main Kirby cast is in and they can start adding side characters like Adeleine or Magolor.

I would rather just skip Toad and get to adding Rosalina and Bowser Jr, so to speak.

For merch however they mainly use the regular Waddle Dees because they have a wider appeal and can be dressed in different outfits, while Bandana Dee still does get some merch of him, regular Waddle Dees take priority.
And the amiibo gives you his bandana in Planet Robobot anyways, so it's not like they don't think about him.
