Also worth bearing in mind that Ys 8's retranslation only affected the main story, and it was less of a retranslation and more of them just re-editing the script to make everything different, even when it was already fine in the original script, so they've made parts of it worse instead. Only because the game speed is based on your processor speed, so timed hits are literally impossible on a modern computer, but it's easy enough to fix with cheat engine

Eh, I played it on a 4.0GHz Haswell and it wasn't that fast.

When I played through it years ago I found setting my display to 16 bit colour (which looked like ass in general but barely made a difference, if there was one, to the game) was enough to fix it.

Then it might've been caused by something else, since I played it on a 3.6GHz processor and I remember all the combat animations being pretty much instant.

I'm so hyped! I'm always wary because of new MCs though.

Only based on 2. The story is so condensed it's kinda pointless, not even joking. The animation that comes along is a nice change, but still terrible.

It being a musou I didn't really have any expectations of it but I'll still get it since I love uta.

I played it on a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz CPU back in the day. I didn't realize game was running too fast until after I finished it. Just got used to lightning fast inputs.

It's an SRPG with VN sections, or rather a VN with SRPG sections since there's usually about an hour+ of reading between missions.
The characters and music are fantastic, and while the gameplay isn't as deep as something like FFT it's still alright, with the biggest issue being that it's too easy until the postgame missions.

It's a story heavy SRPG series. In terms of story structure and attention to details in world-building it is kinda similar to the Kiseki/Trails series, although not identical. All the games are interconnected, but 2 and 3 take place like 20 years after the end of the first game. Gameplay is fairly standard and simple, but still fun, and postgame content is usually pretty hard, sometimes full bullshit. As for the lengths, 1 and 2 are around 50 hours, 3 is 70-100.

Yeah, this is the 4th one.
The second one (Mask of Deception) is MOSTLY self contained aside from some nods and recurring characters from the first game, but its ending will be pretty confusing if you didn't play the first one, and the third game pretty much expects you to have played the first one (and you can't just play the second game since it ends on a cliffhanger).
The first one isn't too long for a VN and takes about 20-30 hours to beat, but the second one is 50+ hours and the third is 70+.

1 is connected to 2 but you could probably get enjoy it well enough without having played it. 3 on the other hand has a much deeper connection to 1 so you should have definitely played it beforehand. Assuming 4 follows the same rules it will be in the same world, probably sometime after the events of 3 and in a different country.

Yeah I think I remember it helping him with recovery and stamina, which kind of helps him brute force his way to strength, really shows the massive effort Haku puts in to play the part. Rurutie is actually a monster in story battles and training. Late game I would just quit a skirmish when I see Ruru in the other team and I don't have a DPS character like Atuy or Kuon on mine. Its why its advised to do the training shit early game.
Atuy is good at damage but she needs proper positioning. And for some reason she eats up counter damage like crazy compared to other characters. Almost as soft as the twins. I think in my file a counter from Mikazuchi was basically death for her.

Rulu is a fucking beast, had her tank Mikazuchi alone in Absolution for 3 fucking turns while I went around murdering the other Akuruturuka

The remake is basically the ps2 version with better combat graphics, so people that played the PC version would still get some new stuff, like new mechanics and a couple extra fights about what the guys were doing while hakuoro and all the girls went to help karura’s brother.

Also the remake also has better gameplay, which granted is not really the main point of Uta, but all things considered it's juts not very wise to play the poor fan translation of a 20 year old game when you can have the better version tomorrow. You do miss some tiny bit that I wouldn't even call content which are the porn scenes but we are not horny teenagers here I hope, and lore wise they are still mostly implied so they still do happen.

Yes, the remake has a story arc that was introduced on the ps2 version if I'm not mistaken and therefore wasn't a part of the original game. It has some character development and interactions, especially for Kurou which is overall one of the less developed characters in the original story. All in all it's nothing essential. The arc has about 3 or 4 combat chapters.

It's easy to skip it because Deception is basically its own self contained story with nods to the original game. It was made over a decade later and its intent was for both old fans and to generate a renewed interest in the series, so people who'd never even heard of it i before would have no problem jumping in. And as a game, the first entry's pretty dated in both art style (which you might like) and gameplay. When you consider it that way, sure.
However, Mask of Truth while continuing the story for the new cast turns much harder toward the old cast and closure for them. You won't be too lost, but a lot of the significance of what's happening will be lost on you. It's not necessary, but if you want the most out of it, you should play the first game.

MoT wouldn't have been as great as it was if MoD wasn't an entire game about establishing the characters and such.

It's actually true. The game runs natively at some abnormal 580p-ish internal resolution, even on PS4.

MoT is also mostly about the cast gobbling on food. I played through both games back-to-back just a few months ago. Even after the satellite fries the capital, there's a lengthy scene at the campfire where they consume and describe food. It's ridiculous. Also, all the characters remain the same archetypes they were the first time you saw them, no matter how many scenes they had where they ate food or obsessed over Haku's dick.

I do not like to listen to every single line because they speak three times slower than I read. During emotional or particularly funny scenes, I let all the voices play. Pic most definitely related. It also depends on the characters. I listened to Atuy's full lines more often, for example.

Have you ever considered people enjoy things differently than you do? The most important parts of a visual novel to me are the visual and novel parts. Voice is a very nice addition, but it's just a bonus. There are plenty of good VNs that aren't voiced at all.
