Has any franchise introduced since fucking Smash 64 had this much of a slam-dunk choice for its series symbol?

Eh. I've always liked the series icons and fanfares that Smash uses, and the fact that Banjo's (and Hero's, actually) is so spot-on just pleases me. This really isn't meant to be a rosterfagging thread.

And yeah, these are pretty great. I do remember being slightly disappointed that Sonic's didn't have the eyes from the Sonic Team logo, though. And being QUITE disappointed that Mega Man's wasn't a silhouette of his helmet.

I wish that we got a Solid/Naked echo split. Solid Snake would get his default MGS1 design while Naked Snake/Big Boss gets his default MGS3 designs. Of course, there could be alternate costumes for other Snakes, as well.

The Monado is the most important thing in the entire game and is pretty much centered around it for the most part.
I don't think there could be anything else at all without spoiling the game.

What said. There's not really a recurring image or symbol one could really use. The closest I can think of is a Nopon silhouette and that's not as good. That's like making Mr. Saturn the Earthbound symbol except worse.

It's also the first thing you see when you boot up the game and it's a fantastic title screen.

This one worked in Smash 64, when they were almost more character icons than series icons (Mario/Luigi and Pikachu/Jiggs notwithstanding), but I kinda wish they'd swap this out for one that's more about F-Zero in general. The whole deal with the Monado is that it shows many different runes on that "screen" depending on what you're doing with it. I don't remember what that one is or if it's even one that appears during normal gameplay, but it's almost certainly not significant enough to represent the Xenoblade series or even just XBC1.

I could be wrong but wasn't that more of an anime thing? The digivice was at least something you could play with the virtual pet on, and I prefer its openness to the series rather than being exclusive to Agumon or a select few others.

I'm thinking if there's some way to represent multiple classes that would be the best way to go about it. Perhaps you only play as one of them, but certain moves cause projectiles to come in from just offscreen, implying the whole team is somewhere in the background, like your Smash game is part of a larger TF2 match.

Agreed. The fact that they have Smash-related fanfares (rather than a short remixed clip of a Mii Channel theme or something) is also a bit off. It's not like Miis are FROM Smash, after all.

I think they use the Smash logo to give them more of a "custom character" vibe. I like using my Lip and Ray Miis, and it would break the fragile illusion even more if the icon was just "Mii".

I think Fire Emblem has a solid one, but not until the Brand of the Exalt was used for Awakening characters.

Tomodachi Life? Streetpass Plaza? Miitopia? They're not really part of one series but I think it'd be the best way to go about representing Mii-centric games rather than leaving them in the "other" pile.

It's certainly less recurring though in games that are separate from the legend of Erdrick, such as the Zenithian Trilogy, although often even games that have nothing to do with Erdrick have his equipment as secret post game items.

I dunno about the symbol, but the game's legacy sure lives on. GREAT music, dialogue - a story that makes you want to keep going but doesn't bog you down with a whole bunch of shit while keeping mini storylines in worlds that serve a purpose (Jiggys). It's hard, but it punishes the wrong behaviors in the right way. Didn't 100% or at least TRY to 100% a level before leaving? You're gonna have a bad time going back and redoing all the note and Jinjo collection with respawned mobs. Want to skip cancer worlds? You can, but only one. Don't explore the outside areas? Miss out on easy tokens and Jiggys, idiot.

The hard part is the jumping puzzles on a SHIT controller but save states overcome that at least.

They called him Erdrick in the west because Nintendo did the localization of the first one and they were really weird about it, making everything sound Shakespearean and changing Roto's name. to sound 'cooler' and more western. I also blame Nintendo's localization for why DQ isn't popular here because they released it 3 years after it released in Japan, well after it became outdated in the face of Final Fantasy. They should have just skipped to 3 and release 1&2 SNES as a sequel. The GB ports used the name Loto because of character limitations only allowing 4 letters, but I think it's stupid they mixed up the L and R sounds on this one considering his name is written on his shield. Personally I just use the name Erdrick because I don't want to sound like a weab and I think it actually does sound kind of cool.

Final Fantasy and Mega Man are trash tier. Persona is decent since it is a strong symbol in P5 only, but not Persona overall. I'd also bump up Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. The jagged fill in the middle bit is pretty specific to Dark Dawn's "light vs.dark" thing. The Fire Emblem doesn't even appear in all Fire Emblem games. And even if it does, it comes in different shapes and forms and serves different purposes.

All those characters have logos that represent more than just the base game. Cloud for example had the meteor if they just wanted to rep FF7, Hero's symbol is more important for DQ1 to 3. Persona and Xenoblade are the only odd ones out where their series symbol only reps one game in a multiple game series.
