This is literally my favorite game of all time, but I've done so many playthroughs with so many mods

Has anything big or new in terms of additional mod content happened in the last five years? Maybe I'll boot it up and do another playthrough

When I first played BG2, I figured Irenicus was a devout follower of Bhaal, and was experimenting on the PC in an attempt to resurrect his god. Turns out he was just a power hungry elven faggot with C-grade reasoning for his actions.

So what exactly was his plan? Why do he even want to ascend to godhood? I never quite understood that

But the important thing to remember is that she honestly loved him, and yes, while it was wrong, that was probably what led to him being banished instead: She pulled strings, used political connections to get his sentence reduced. But the LEAST the elves would accept was Irenicus being stripped of his elvenhood. And in the end that was probably what damned them.

same, i dunno what makes it so replayable since there isn't even that much C&C.

Remember that he's arguably the most gifted mage in existence, which makes him pretty godly already. The first time he does it, it's implied it's at the urging of his sister, and the elves DID value great feats of magic, and there was actually nothing implying he wanted to destroy the city the first go-around.

Second go-around, he wanted revenge, and what he came to see as what was his by right, because his natural talent so far exceeded anyone else.

I mean he tried to drain their sacred tree to become a god it's pretty simple

Nah he wants revenge at that point. He's already captured your godly soul at that point in the game, remember? After that, everything for him is just gravy

No, user, he tried to do it twice. The FIRST time he did it is what caused her to severe his immortality in the first place.

He needed a soul first before he could go through with his plan, when you first see him in game he's SOULESS.Your godly soul was the closest thing, and then some, to his previous super magic powered elven soul.

You know the beginning of this game was pretty dark and I'm surprised it didn't get more criticism for being edgy

It's no mod, it's in the base game. At some point in the dungeon, you can free a harem of nymphs Irenicus keeps around, one of their lines to Imoen is "He has touched you as he touched us, hasn't he, child"
