Detailed =/= good. Most of the Desolate Hope robots are way too visually busy, they look like bayformers. Still, many can't even do that level of detail, man's certainly got some talent.

It's a rendering/animation error most likely overlooked by Scott, partly because I think that part of Malenz is cut during battle. Most other Derelicts are fine though when their textures are ripped and animated.
About the design, I do think they are extremely visually busy, to the point where I think the lack of fanart of TDH stems from the complexity of the designs. With some simplication, they could be some really awesome looking designs, but their depth is captivating enough as is and demonstrates Scott's artistic ability.

You can't really discuss Scott Cawthon without bringing up the biggest fucking thing he made. It's impossible not to.

Most of the designs end up being too similar to the basic 2014 Freddy, Bonnie, etc.. but he still has some genuinely good ones.

His bigger problem is not using the better ones enough, though. The first game animatronics are the simplest and still the most effective because of how they appear throughout the map and use sound cues. In the later games they just stop appearing outside of jumpscares.
