Now that the dust has settled, what do you guys think of ME: Andromeda? It’s on sale for about 10 bucks and I have never played a game in the series before, so not too worried I’ll be disappointed because of better prequels. Did the patches improve the game? I know that they haven’t fixed the story and the characters. But let’s be honest a lot of games have shitty storytelling anyway. Anyone brave enough to give an unbiased opinion and rating?
Opinions on Mass Effect: Andromeda
Ugh, i want to like it but its just so goddamned tedious.
Fundamentally broken with a terrible story and SJW undertones
My opinion of it has not changed, it is downright terrible. I'd rather just play the trilogy than bother with Andromeda ever.
Its still unironically 1/10.
Setting is shit
Soundtrack is shit
Writing is shit
Characters are boring
Combat is shit (yes really you fucking nerds, they cocked up the squad AI and fucked over the cooldown system)
I literally can't think of a redeeming quality about it and this is the only game I've played where I can honestly say that.
Prequel is not "previous". Prequel is next in the series that takes place before the events of previous installment.
Is the combat shitty too? From what I heard the gameplay/combat was pretty good, but the game got a lot of shit because of the facial animations and fucked up voice acting.
I’m sorry I meant past installments indeed.
Its pretty alright. The story is by far the most uninteresting thing about the game, and it does make the game a bit boring to follow. However the gameplay is the best of the Mass Effect games. So much freedom of movement, so many customization options, flipping classes on the fly keeps the game fresh, the gameplay designers really did a great job.
The combat being good was a last ditch effort by paid shills on twitch and youtube to sell the game
combat is janky as fuck on account of how buggy the game is, and with the dumbed down abilities and squad system its literally just a boring cover-based shooter with a jetpack (and no reason to use it since the combat arenas are boring and extremely non-vertical).
As a standalone it's a strong 6/10, even after the patches
>game world is connected via menus only
>exploration becomes tedious
>gun play/combat looses its charm after the 5th firefight
>tactical elements feel barebones, like they're there the meet the absolute bare minimum to check off a back of the box feature
>voice acting is ok with some really glaring shitty moments (female krogans being the worst)
>animations are ok (when they're not bugging out)
>story can't make up its mind and conflicts with itself to the point that you stop caring
The only thing it's got going for it is that it doesn't crash all the time and wasn't totally incompetently made.
However relative to the Mass Effect series it's a 2/10. Only a 2 because being a 1 is reserved for shit like the sequel being a Mobile game.
Thanks for acknowledging that. I appreciate that user.
Andromeda though is seriously shit. I had EA Access to play it "for free" but it was just too shit to handle. Combat feels floaty and bad. Far less like GearsLite, more Elex but without good RPG parts. It's very very floaty, jerky and just difficult to enjoy. Planets are empty as fuck and barren.
made a hot blasian chick. highest difficulty first mission was ok but honestly not enough enemies, it was too easy. then i got bored after and stopped playing. i guess i never really liked these games, even the first one i just kind of forced myself to finish, never bothered with the others.
I put about 12 hours into the single-player and I didn't find it enjoyable. The setting and story are considerably weaker than the previous games, and the premise is neat in concept but the execution wasn't good. I also didn't like that they removed the class system in favor of "profiles."
I was more disappointed with the multiplayer, though.
I liked it initially, but the novelty wore off quickly. I thought the first vault you explored was pretty, but they got old quickly. Same with the worlds you explored. There were hazards, exclusion areas, and other things that were just variations of the same thing with different names; and the respawning enemies in the same places. Eventually I just stopped fighting enemies unless there was some kind of main or side quest involved.
I can see how people could like the game, but not as a worthy successor to the Mass Effect series. There was a ton to explore and the combat mechanics were great. Aside from that, everything else was lame.
I finished it after it got patched
The game is a mess, you can see some tiny details here and there are pretty nice and a few devs really tried but it was rushed and made in a year and it shows
The combat is more action based if you could call it that but worse in every way from 3, the leveling, upgrades etc suck
Characters are just derivatives of old party members or archetypes
The open world adds up to nothing as does the quest line, sudoku terraforming, fuck I've seen better ideas for the story and world here
In me1,2 and 3 you feel like there is tension and that you're racing against time, making choices along the way but in andromeda you're going through a checklist
Thanks guys appreciate the opinions, this kind of makes me sad that they haven’t remastered the original trilogy so I can play it.
Just started my first run and just played the first mission.
I kinda like the small Star Trek potential this game has of going into a mysterious alien planet, scanning shit with my thing and discussing with people to try and understand what's going on there.
But I'm pretty sure it's rarely going in that direction, even if "let's explore" is something they've been building non-stop for all this time, am I right?
Also holy shit why kill Alec now? Alec should have died in the late game after we got to love him. Let us learn what is is to be a "pathfinder" first and THEN we become that whatever thing. It's the perfect hook for a sequel as well.
EVEN FUCKING DRAGON AGE 2 WAITED UNTIL MID-GAME TO KILL YOUR PARENT
It wasn't as bad as the hate mob made it out to be. Vetra is best girl.
Probably put 100 hours into my first play through. Haven't bothered starting a second but it's definitely worth $10. Solid 7/10, wish there was a sequel.
It's well worth it if you like ironically enjoying bad games or movies and shit. Gameplay is total trash, as are the story and visuals. That said I had a lot of fun playing it simply because it was enjoyably terrible in every aspect.
Play on PC, the games will run on any toaster.
ME 1 > Andromeda >>>>> ME2 > ME3
People just hate it because LOL BIOWARE!! and because it's not a linear shooter like their previous titles.
Yep, but 1 looks like shit though. It needs a graphical overhaul. Still playable though.
Worth it for the gameplay and pretty set pieces.
Story is what ever. Maybe 2-3 interesting redeeming characters but really mediocre. 100 ish hours to 100% completion, no regrets. it's pretty much bug free now too.
They should remake 1 with Andromeda's gameplay. I love the general verticality and freedom, it just need some extra touch-ups to be GOAT
>pretty set pieces.
will post a few pics.
yeah hope you like deserts 'cause three of the four planets you can explore are all desert.
this is the only non-desert planet. it's a snow planet. so like a desert but white.
this is a cool jungle planet, unfortunately you can't drive on it and it's a tiny area with nothing to explore.
>always online for a single player game
>can't command your squadmates to use their special powers like you could in the first 3 games
The jump to another galaxy was a good move, probably the only way the franchise could have moved forward.
compliments end here

gameplay was enjoyable, everything else was lazy, rushed, bland, or all of the above
just get 1-3 and play those, they are excellent. i definitely understand why 3 gets shit on, but i still liked it
I moved to consoles like mid last year, 30 fps in a video game feels fucking akward as shit, it's like playing half a video game. Even Warz is hard to beat with skill alone on the hardest mode without that super aimbot it has.
A painfully average game if you've never touched the original trilogy. Worth checking out if you're bored.
Combat is probably the highlight. Not the best i've seen, but definitely top 3.
Looks pretty great too since it's Frostbite.
Everything else is completely shit though, from the story to the characters.
Kind of surprising it looks as good as it does after reading about how hard the Montreal team crunched before the deadline.
no, Andromeda only took the bad aspects of ME1
>long cooldowns
>damage sponge enemies
>no squad tactics
>rifles feel like shit
>inventory system that nobody ever used
>bad vehicle controls
>empty worlds
etc. ME1 can gain nothing from Andromeda except maybe the smoother cover system and jetpacks, and even then the jetpacks were shit and ME3's cover system was more precise.
>lost squad control in exchange for swapping power loadouts mid-battle
>swapping leaves you with a massive global coodown meaning it's completely impractical in every battle
It's unironically worth trying for $10
I'M ONLY HUMAN AFTER ALL
DON'T PUT THE BLAME ON ME
Played though it 11 times in the first two weeks after launch.
>Forced dialog that's preachy enough to be mistaken for irony
>Ark is basically just a bunch of college kid commies that crowdfunded their way to a new galaxy and filling up the rest of the ship with military dregs
>game is just babysitting, activating ancient humidifiers, and being treated like shit because all the NPS are ungrateful pieces of shite
>Krogans reduced to caricatures of welfare niggers
>Horribe glitches and animations (probably fixed but fucking terrible at launch)
I liked playing as I'm kind of simpleminded, but the writing shits all over what could be a passable space shooter game.
>long cooldowns
by end game when you have enough points in a specialization ie tech everything is 10 seconds or under.
>damage sponge enemies
only on insanity difficulty, normal is a breeze
>no squad tactics
fair, they're aimless
>rifles feel like shit
disagree, not as bad as 1, for some reason I think I liked 2 the best. gunplay was good with snipers/handguns.
>inventory system that nobody ever used
it was pretty inoffensive as far as inventory systems go. looting function was shit though.
>bad vehicle controls
gets less worse with upgrades but yeah not great.
>empty worlds
you're wrong here, it probably has the most on-world content out of any of the ME games.
just giving the game an honest review.
bump
1 > 3 >>>>>>> shit >>>>>>> Andromeda > 2.
