Recommend some good roguelikes

One that I really liked was Tales of Maj'Eyal but I played it too much

Maj'Eyal is my personal favorite. Very approachable from a newbie perspective, and has a shitload of replayability with not just the classes/races, but the difficulty systems as well.

I would also recommend DCSS (although I've heard stories of it becoming cücked within the last year or so)

Cogmind

shill

I've played DCSS before, it was awhile ago though. What happened to it recently?

I'm just here before spergs start screaming

> ROUGELITE NOT ROGUELIKE!!!!

I don't know the full details, but apparently they took away some races or classes and adjusted a bunch of shit, which pissed off a lot of the community.

please don't bring that shit in here, it's a decent thread so far

Powder for psp

Tales of maj eyal has a shitload of buttons for some classes and some abilities are impossible to understand unless you read the code behind them. You won't know why it's a bad idea to put more than 2 points in Disruption Shield or why Shadowstrike gives you so much more damage than it says it does by just looking at the descriptions.

This one looks interesting, should I play the original first maybe?

crypt of the necrodancer
I also really dug cavern on iOS

I like DoomRL. Very different game. Gets stale after a few hours because there's not a ton of build variety, but there's enough playstyle difference to make things entertaining.

DoomRL is great. Didn't they have to shut it down though?

took away fun for no reason

Depends on if you care about true Rougelikes or not.

Pretty much.

Anyway try Elona. Prolly one of my favorites. /jp/ has a thread up about it I think.

new content soon, and you can never play enough ToME.
(te4.org/blogs/darkgod/2019/04/news/whats-next-tales-majeyal-lot-and-then-some)

E+ gets harder and harder to play as a roguelike over time due to constant arbitrary buffs and nerfs

one you get over the WOW COOL HACKER INTERFACE the game turns into a slog. very little diversity in enemies, massive bias to one playstyle, and constantly scrounging for parts is frustrating, especially when your replacements are used up.

UnReal World is a good time

ZeniMax forced them to rebrand it ti DRL

>you can never play enough ToME.
Oh no, you absolutely can. Fuck that game is static. At one point a few years ago I was playing around 14 hours per day of ToME and at some point it made me physically ill to think about going through that fucking dungeon progression again.

ToME4 isn't a roguelike, it's a roguelite. It starts on adventurer mode and not permadeath mode. It also has outside progression and a literal cross character item bank.

if you haven't played angband then yeah go for it
if you enjoy it, you're in luck since there's a million variants like poschengband

that's actually how I felt too at some point. If you're playing it 14 hours a day though you definitely needed a break or it was inevitable you'd get burnt out

caves of qud

are there any good ToME let's players or walkthroughs on high difficulties?

Goons

Yes, I would love to make a condensed version of ToME with a more dynamic game world

supposedly the upcoming 1.6 is supposed to make the dungeon grind less monotonous

DCSS 0.10
