Are there any mods to make this game actually fun?

No.
unironically no
desu if they just scrapped the whole sandbox aspect, made a few more dungeons and pre-built towns, it would be a good game
No, some mods help make it less shitty but it's still bad. People will tell you about Frackin Universe but it's a clusterfuck of stolen mods with no sense of progression whatsoever.
Strangely enough I think it was more fun in the early days when they didn't have a god awful story and you could just run around as much as you wanted right from the beginning
just give me terraria with starbound races
Based
I agree with that, but so much more has changed than just the inclusion of the shitty story. In its current state, it would be better if it were only story with a lightly customizeable ship.
You should probably mention that an overwhelming majority of those are compatibility mods for furfag OC races, don't make the starbound porn modding scene look better than the barebones shit it is.
In no way trying to boast the barebones porn mod scene, just the absolute essential for making Starbound playable. The Penguin compatability mod is as hilarious as it is hot.
Nope. I tried Fracking Universe hoping it would really fix this game, but it actually made it worse. It adds all kinds of really superfluous protective gear and hazards to the game that make zero sense. If there was some mechanism behind the excess biomes and gear, I would be ok with it, but there simply is not. You end up grinding really hard for special resources just to make the right equipment to go on different worlds. All it does is takes what Starbound has and expands it horizontally. The game is shit and so is the mod.
Literally just worse Terraria, wait until the third "final update" for Terraria to finish and then remember that all sandbox metroidvanias play the same way and Terraria did it best.
This game is honestly so shit, I think the worst part is having to fly from planet to planet to scan fucking cultural items for each race so you can unlock the next shitty dungeon
At least last I checked, no. There are a few mods that actually add enough content to make it have a reasonable amount but none that fix the fundamental issues the game has.
>superfluous protective gear and hazards to the game
Fucking THAT. I've been looking for a way around this that doesn't flat out involve cheats, because that addition boils down to having 4+ different EPPs in your inventory at all times. Closest I've found is the module combiner so you can slam every resistance mod into one.
^ Agree. Terraria has been executed properly, and most of the major updates to the game have only added more features and content than Starbound will ever get. Starbound's infinite planets doesn't matter for shit when all of them feel and function the same. Terraria just focuses on one world and finds a way to give to tons of depth and things to do in just the single world it is on.
Yeah but practically everything is a worse terraria
I felt that Terraria had the mobility, combat, and progression depth to a solid T, but not much in exploration. The only thing Starbound I think gets right are some colonies, space stations, and dungeons added from the updates are cool to discover, but there's nothing to the game to make them worth doing anything with.
Really? I thought that all those colonies, space stations and dungeons were bland. They are modular; so it's just a bunch of prefab sections that are formed together, but the game does a terrible job at making them all feel different and unique. Space stations in almost every star system i've visited is just a copy of the last, every colony I go to serves no purpose, it's just a filler. It doesn't have a name, it doesn't have a leader, it really has no meaning. Starbound is just hollow.
Maybe the mods changed it, but it didn't fix the overall problem of being in a bad game.
Played in early 2014. What happened to this game bros?
Mobility is one massive issue I have with Starbound. Compared to Terraria, throughout the whole game it doesn't feel like your character actually moves any faster from the beginning to the end, you're still walking around at a fucking snail's pace with a shitty little dash, a shitty little double jump, and some other useless tech that does fuck all
It's gone nowhere. It has had some content updates; but the main quest is just some bullshit chain of fetching these gems. It still feels hollow and empty just like in 2014; but maybe it has a glossy finish to it instead of a matte one. Mods won't even save the game either.
What website to download these? Sexlab?
The morphball tech actually ends up being one of the more useful ones because it lets you stick to walls and climb shit like it's nothing as long as there isn't a weird block placement that flings you off a cliff for no apparent reason. Still pretty fucking pathetic compared to Terraria though.
There's an official page with all of the available addons from loverslab, but they're all a pain in the ass to get individually. I put up a full download.

Morphball tech is a midgame upgrade that lets you do what you can do within the first half hour in Terraria if you find a grappling hook with good rng
Fucking BASED
Not really. Maybe you could use a mod to increase the size and variety of each planet then try finding a system with a lot of planets and stay there forever. I found the game to be a LOT more enjoyable when you play in a single system.
It's hard to get pith all the biomes and species you want tho.
The bigger problem with the planets is you have absolutely 0 reason to visit a planet more than once. You rush the surface to check for any temples or whatever, dig to the core to refill fuel etc, and bail out. No point in building anywhere as you have every single necessary item on your ship.
>dig to the core to refill fuel
You must be talking about an ancient version, now you don't even have to do that. Just land on a moon, run on the surface and mine the glowing pink fuel ore while running away from an invincible enemy that one-hit kills you on contact but is too slow to be a threat.
Are there any mods to just straight up remove the story?
There is, but it's not compatible with any mods that rely on the ship repair missions to start. Just look up "sandbox" on the steam workshop or "optional story" I haven't tried this one, so I'm not sure about compatibility with any mods.
I need to actually script my Rosalina mod, but the game has been so fucked, I don't even want to waste the time one that.
There's several that I can think of. You'll have to combine a few and see what suits you the best. For me personally it was the combination of several weapon mods, quest skipping mods, recourse mods that did it for me. I might try that Sandbox mod that removes the stupid story mode later because that might make things far more fun for me. I wish there was a mod that added Space Pirate attacks and far more customisable space stations and spaceships.
It might just be me, but the Ninja mod I found and used makes me feel like I am in a silly 80s Ninja Action movie in Space and it's fucking amazing. I am basically flying across planets with a fucking scythe swinging around me to let me float in the air whilst throwing Shurikens all over the place and attacking people with Nunchakus. It's fucking great and it basically fixed the game for me. Pic related.
Is there a version that uses the Cutebound/animefied humans or the Ningens?
Depends on the modder. Most of the mods in the pack use the cute/improved compatible versions.
Good. Might be worth trying one of them then.
It totally was. Back in those days it felt like Starbound had the foundations in place to surpass Terraria, and just needed more time to grow.
lmao wtf
