I'm an hour and 33 minutes in, does this get better? I'm not saying its bad, I think its fine, I just have no urge to continue on. Should I keep at it? I've only played the first 3 FF games + Adventure III(?) on the GB, but I liked those games.
I'm an hour and 33 minutes in, does this get better? I'm not saying its bad, I think its fine...
Not only should you stop playing it, but you should also kill yourself.
>turn based RPG
>does it get better
If you're not enjoying it, you're not enjoying it. I'd always give it another couple of hours to see if anything clicks but if not, there's no sense in continuing.
Not only should you kill yourself, but you should kill himself
>he didn't immediately get captivated by the game's setting, characters and overall quirky charm
You sound a bit too zoom zoom for this game
Stop and switch to FF6, the superior game
It does get better but then it gets worse when you realize how little depth the materia system actually has and that 0 thought was put into any of the random encounters and 70% of the boss fights
I've not played FF7 before, but I'm waiting for the remake. I like the visual style of the game but the gameplay of the original doesn't appeal.
It does get better. you get to pilot big robots and fight other big robots mid game and it turns into a massive missilefest.
at what part did you stop?
>I'm an hour into an RPG, but I'm already thinking about quitting.
And I thought my generation had bad ADD. At least get out Midgar, man. It only takes 6-7 hours.
It's gonna be a RE2/REmake 2 situation where they're basically different games. It's a shame how many people will miss the original, but turn-based gameplay seems to be the absolute most challenging barrier to get by for some people. I know people will just say "Zoomer!" but there have been people with no patience for turn-based systems for decades.
user, you're way behind, holy fuck. VI hasn't been the contrarian choice in years. You either say V or IX now.
What about VIII?
The contrarians are avoiding that one, strangely.
>all these boomers butthurt because their aged milk game isnt fun
no need to drop your wet panties, OP tried to be just and fair about it, you cant force and sperg if someone doesnt like it.
but OP try to get out of midgar and if youre still not having fun then just stop playing.
>FFVII remake has watered down cliche characters, bland singular setting, and no more quirky charm (replaced by edgy drama)
Thanks Nomura!
My general rule of thumb for dropping or continuing a game is 3 hours
For RPGs I'm willing to stretch it to 5 if the world is interesting
X in japanese dub and X-2 are the contrarian choices
Yeah, you're describing me to an extent. Never got on with turn based combat of most sorts, strategic or party based or whatever. Only one I've found interesting is the style in Resonance of Fate.
Don't get me wrong, I know that the remake is going to be a whole different game to the original. It's a shame I can't get into the original but I'll hopefully enjoy the remake as its own thing.
>game's setting, characters and overall quirky charm
>in Final Fantasy
>in a jrpg
lel
who are you quoting
>I'm an hour and 33 minutes in,
kys zoomer
>X-2
honestly the battle system in X2 is what FF7R should be using with some improvements
>not IV
I played X in Nip (I mean, completely, not just the dub) last year and I feel like the Japanese VA is very overrated. Tidus is better in Japanese, Yuna is A LOT better in Japanese (she actually sounded excited about becoming a summoner instead of like she was about to die of depression), but everyone else is a mixed bag. Most of the rest of the cast is a little better than the English VA at best, but it's nothing stellar. Japanese Auron sounds like a middle-aged Japanese man trying to sound tough, it was awful. Seymore was definitely better in Japanese, but a lot of other characters don't really matter too much. Belgemine was even worse than Auron. But yeah, both the English and Japanese VA of that game is a mixed bag.
How'd you get the game so early?
Yeah I'm surprised people haven't started saying it's the best yet. They've avoiding IV, VIII, and the NES titles. Most don't even try with any past X. You see a lot of "XII is the best Final Fantasy!" but I think most of those are just people who played it as their first or one of their first FFs when they were kids.
I'm at the title screen and I'm just not feeling the game. Does it get better?
>I'm an hour and 33 minutes in, does this get better?
Yes
which 2d final fantasy should I play first? I'm thinking of just playing IV and VI
FF7 is the definition of soul
7's great. I can still start a new save file and play for like 10 hours straight even after beating the game several times.
I feel like that's not much of a development if you don't dig the gameplay up to that point. Xenoblade Chronicles X had a similar thing (getting access to a mecha a fair way into the game), but it played much the same way as fighting at person level did which was a bit of a disappointment.
>in a JRPG
Why did you free text that part? JRPGs are probably the most creative genre there is
no
Play 9
If you're not into it then probably not. The first bit in Midgar is pretty good, then it sags a bit when you first get to the world map, then it picks up again near the end.
yeah, the pacing gets fucked once you get to the world map and the story seems to randomly jump between events
I'm actually hoping they'll get rid of the world map completely in the remake and focus on creating consecutive hub areas
Give V a try if you enjoyed III.
Those are good choices. So's V. I like all of the 2D ones but II, honestly.
The early game is hard to sit through because you dont really have many spells or abilities. So its usually just "Attack" or some level 1 spell.
Once you break out into the world and get across to the other continent, you are able to strategize better and the combat actually becomes somewhat engaging.
I'd try to stick to it til you leave Midgar. Its seems like a big chunk of the game but its more like 10%.
You can probably do it within 8 hours easy.
At least get out of Midgar and then decide if you want to continue.
VIII is my favorite. The only ff I dislike was XIII. I played it when it first released but hated the battle system. I’ve been wanting to give it another shot lately just for completion sake.
