Yes, because they said it would be too much work to put in all the animations/models and for balance. This normally wouldn't be a bad thing if they did this sort of thing in earlier gens; not when there are at least 700 pokemon. Hell, they even future-proofed the models back in Gen 6; and now those are going to waste.

The point about Megas, and Z-moves is that they were decent ideas but awful in execution. But replacing them with Dynamaxing isn't very popular, and combined with the culling of the dex, and no it's not that they won't appear in game. They straight up aren't programmed into the game, meaning you could potentially have a pokemon that gets stuck in Pokemon Home for 5-6+ years.
All these are getting cut and being replaced with "High Quality Animation" while having bad graphics and optimization like this WEBM here

In theory, but not in practice. Mega Beedrill is certainly a lot more usable than regular Beedrill, but because you only have one mega slot, why use Mega Beedrill instead of one of the megas that makes an already good pokemon even better? It doesn't even make it more tolerable to use Beedrill during the main story for those that just like Beedrill because the stones are always post-game only, meaning their only functional use is for competitive or facility play, where the first problem crops back up.

They could have simply made it so only mega stones for good pokemon were post-game and shitmon stones could just be found by looking around, but then you're relying on Gamefreak to understand the balance of their own game, which is bound to backfire.

masuda has given two excuses for what they've done with the game: better graphics/animations and more balanced gameplay. from the information we already have, this is all bullshit.
graphically, this game looks worse than a wii game. and i'm not exaggerating. xenoblade 1 looks better than swsh, both of the rune factory games on the wii look better than swsh, etc.
the "animations" are just as lazy and static as they've always been since the game boy era. some of them, such as brave bird and steel wing, have actually been downgraded from the 3ds games. human npcs still slide across the ground like a fucking roomba whenever they change direction. all the "higher quality animation" has been limited to their new waifu gym leader in cutscenes because they need to entice gacha whales to pay up for pokemon masters.
as for balance, game freak has never been able to properly balance their games yet and they certainly haven't started now. by removing megas, they've turned a bunch of pokemon back into unviable shitmons. and by cutting the national dex, they've only made the meta even more centralized than it usually is.
the bottom line is that they've cut a ton of content out of these games, and their reasons for doing so are all blatant lies. i don't know what else you need to see to realize that swsh is going to be shit.

You will not be able to transfer in and use any Pokemon species that aren’t part of the new region’s regional Pokedex. The given reason is that all the Pokemon included are receiving significant additional work in terms of animation and other things, but the problem is that none of this is apparent in the media materials shown off so far. Not to mention that other art assets that can be seen in the game world are also quite subpar. So what the fuck is going on, are fans just supposed to accept that Game Freak doesn’t care enough to put in the same amount of work that was in the preceding games (Sun/Moon)? To blindly believe that there is something worth all this cost and feature cutting not yet announced?

With a lot of other devs, I actually would give them the benefit of the doubt. 1st party Nintendo games often get touched up between first reveals and release. But my goodwill for Game Freak is not in the best of standing.

The thing about Black/White is that those games managed to pull off the ”entirely new roster of Pokemon” feature without cutting out any of the old ones from the games’ code. Funny how that works.
