Why? There’s nothing really wrong with him. All the Marios are fat, he’s just more so. Flaws are humanizing. So is being allowed to have some personality, like Luigi. His games were also fun and adventurous, and they’ve all benn ‘disregard princess, acquire coin’, which is a fine goal no matter who you are.

I retroactively regret that he was in Brawl and not Melee. As much as I like Ganondorf in Smash, I'd trade him and all the other clones to get Wario and/or Dedede (mostly Wario) based on what Sakurai has said about Melee's development.

If Wario was added in Melee, a 2001 game, his moveset would need to be entirely based on the Land games, meaning that what few moves weren't completely original would be stuff like his shoulder barge (which he finally now has as it should be in Ultimate), his butt stomp, and some of his powerups from WL1 & VB. He might've also gotten a stage based on his WL2 Castle. Then when Ware came out they could've just added the biker outfit as an alt and added the WW stage in Brawl and called it a day.

I don’t like this logic that a cartoonish or wacky characters are seen as jokes just because they aren’t a swordy or anything.
It’s the same reason I assume people do not like smash. But for fucks sale every fighting game nowadays is just human characters. MK backer themselves into a corner with their character design, they can’t get to weird with characters now because they all have to be able to be mangled in the same way.
MvC is the only other fighter that’ll permit wacky, cartoon styled characters but we saw how the recent installment of that went.
Thats why I do want characters like Wario in the meta. It’s the only time I’ll ever see a game where a fat Jew will beat up pac man or vice versa

Wario's gameplay is unique and gimmicky and his counterplay is also gimmicky and forces you to play the game differently.

Palutena, Peach, the Chus, Fox, Inkling, Greninja are just a handful of good characters that are less gimmicky than Wario, while still being way more unique than a swordie.

I am opposed to how they put my favorite Nintendo character into Smash, not that he was included. Thanks for the funny fart man, Sakurai. The character also comes with barely any content from both series.

I also hate how limp this character’s hits feel, how expressionless he is sometimes, how weirdly deep his voice is in smash, and his generic comeback mechanic that’s not fun to play against.

I wish he got in in Melee rather than Brawl. I love the Warioware games but Wario has a ton of moves from the Land games to pull from, and him “repping Warioware” is mostly just him having goofy choppy animations rather than any microgame references. Mona/Jimmy could rep Ware and Wario could rep Land, everyone would have been happy. Too bad we’re stuck with meme Wario and if we ever get another rep it’ll be Ashley.

His run is made up, and he does have the Shoulder Bash for DA, but the only other direct Land reference is his fucking Up tilt, which is a reference to the 100% complete victory screen from wario land 2

This argument of 'b-but she doesn't do anything!!' is retarded. She's the leader of a pirate crew with a diverse arsenal of moves ranging from boomerangs to alarm clocks to spears, and she herself uses a magic lamp and a robot. There's plenty of inspiration to be had.
Also, even if she did do 'nothing', there are fighters who were fully fleshed out in their source material but have shit movesets and characters that did barely anything but have fully fleshed out movesets.

Now that you mention it, it seems like most of his punching came from Wario World, same with the throwing attacks, with the butt pound and circle throw being the most obvious. Other than that, the only callbacks to the Land series are the dash attack, taunts, his sleeping animation and his walking while crounching animation.
The only references to Wario Ware is the bike attack and Super Wario, even tho Super Wario doesn't really have any unique attacks.
The rest are variations of Mario's moveset, and I wouldn't be surprised if they would've made him a clone if he were included on Melee.

also as a kid i thought the focus on farting was strange but i got used to it.

i got destroyed by a wario at a local last week in manhattan. i wasnt mad because i saw the finesse required for wario.
Wario isnt a character who is simple.
if i fight a member of marths family its gonna be the same old fair, nair, fastfall, dancing blade, fair you a few times off the stage, a counter.
