It was Abdel Adrian and he was the MC of the novels, the shitty 5E adventure modules follow it because they hired the same guy to write who already wrote the abysmal novels back in the day.
The Adventure is canon and bhaal is back which means that everything that happened in the Vidya-Trilogy is non-canon. Seems like you need to COPE.

Usually it some weird shit that has to do with licensing or copyright because US laws are really fucky when it comes to that.
For example for the longest time we didn't have any D&D RPG Vidya because Atari still held on to that D&D Vidya License since NWN and only lost it a few years ago.
