Free speech will always be involved because the US is a free country wich millions of Twitter users. Not only this but it is interfering with what information American citizens are able to have access to. Leftists used to be the ones that were against the system. Now they (or whatever passes as the left nowadays) are against a caricature of what they think the system is, which might have been more or less true many decades ago but now the world has changed but they're not smart enough to figure it out. They actually embrace multinationals and the media the instant it panders to them a little bit. They'll regurgitate wall street talking points about free trade and immigration. All terrible for the working class. And they think they're still rebelling. But they have completely assimilated bourgeois values.
Alex Jones is *ridiculous* but he has a large audience. And he criticizes globalism which is THE number one problem plaguing western liberal democracies. There is no economic left possible as long as there's international capitalist laissez-faire at the level that we have now. I really wish the "left" would understand that but there's no helping it. All stuck in identity politics and fighting "nazis".
In the US, there will probably be a shift in the next decade where the republicans will embrace the "populist right" and go on the left economically while remaining socially conservative. There is a huge voting coalition to be had there (including minorities, a lot of which tend to be conservative). While the democrats will remain economically on the right as economic liberals in the classical sense (which is what they used to be). And who will oppose this? The "left". They won't even understand that this is happening.
This is not the right place to talk about this but that's something I think about all the time and it pisses me off to no end. I consider myself a leftist but I fucking hate the left.
