i got gud at transportation on rollerblades so that i got around fast without moving like a speedskating fruit. then the water main work started and every sidewalk and road surface became 20% gravel and anything with tires smaller than a bike was rendered useless

I skate with some friends but the local skatepark is pretty much a junkie hang out full of losers which has caused the younger kids to avoid it so you dont see a lot of young people skating in my area anymore. We have a few young guys who skate with us but back when I was in hs skating was way bigger.

You have no idea how much money there was in skateboarding in the late 90s or how much the X-Games made and or many people watched it. At one point it was bigger than the NHL and damn near bigger than golf. 20 years ago more people skateboarded than played almost any sport in the world with only a handful of exceptions.

Memorizing a large number of inputs is not nearly as inpressive as successfully inputing strings of inputs to manuever around enviroments vertically as well as horizontally in clever ways.
High level THUG gameplay is insane. The ways you can manipulate yourself through space in THPS is what makes it so fantastic.
Skate keeping everything nailed to the ground and realistic is different yeah. Also boring and will never serve any purpose besides letting you feel superior for playing the skating games no one remembers

I guess it depends how you think of it. I'm thinking in terms of competing with other humans at a high level. I'm just thinking THPS has a higher skill ceiling than Skate due to how fast you can go. It obviously depends which specific Tony Hawk we're talking about.

you're right that it was the last good skateboarding game, but i was so disappointed in the drop in quality between skate 1 and 2/3. they had good ideas implemented into 2 and 3, but its easy to see that they only saw it as revenue. but from EA im surprised about the amount of effort put into 1 in the first place. i cant imagine 1 didnt sell well, otherwise i would assume they wanted the huge-at-one-point tony hawk audience and it didnt sell as well as they had hoped. which i guess still could be true, but skate was popular as fuck afaik
