Fatal Frame is pretty much the golden standard of horror games (at least at the beginning), any good horror game relies on the occasional jumpscare to increase tension and make the player afraid of what might come next.
If it's clear the game will never fuck with you then it simply loses any kind of scariness.

FNAF has plenty of atmosphere and tension despite all the jumpscares, truly bad jumpscares are like the ones in Outlast that show up out of literally nowhere.

That series was better than i expected it to be story wise. Gameplay was garbage, but it was decent. Looking forward to see what they do with the new game.
