Also, in Pirate's Curse, the pixel art is so fucking fake. They took a regular drawing and put it through a mosaic filter. This is fucking embarassing.
Most people only care about the girls, that's why such a large amount is unquestionably excited for Shantae 5 even though HGH was kinda shit.
Also i think PCs art style still looks superior to HGH.

They aren't the best games, but they're at least trying to invoke that same feel I got as a kid playing shit like Metroid and Mario. Speaking of, the dialogue kinda does remind me of Paper Mario TTYD. I like Bozon's sense of humor, it's enjoyable. But yeah, these games need better level design.

Because HGH was mediocre as shit, and people hype it up beyond belief regardless, clearly their reason for playing isn't gameplay.

Let's assume i want to actually give this series a proper try. Should I even bother with Risky's Revenge or the first one, or should I play the ones that people consider best, namely Pirate Curse and the remake of HGH?
Pirate's Curse is pretty good. Sadly it is the only good game in the series.

The first and PC are considered the "must plays". Risky's Revenge is really only necessary if you care about what little story there is and the loose loose continuity.
I liked Risky's Revenge more than Pirate's Curse because it didn't devolve into Super Meatboy bullshit towards the end of the game and the monster jam collectibles felt more meaningful than any of the things you can get from exploration in PC
The difficulty spike at the end wouldn't have been an issue if the rest of the game weren't absurdly easy.
A Shantae 3D Platformer would be tits.

PC is the best one and I’m sure that’s the one you’ll probably play based on the other recommendations.
If you like it then it’s worth going back to the original GB game.
1/2 Genie Hero disappointed people and so got a worse reputation than it deserves. It’s a pretty fun platformer with some flaws. I really like the animation style. It’s greatest sin is just never reaching the heights of PC after such a long wait. I consider it about on par with the original, if you like the others at least give it a shot.
