What needs to happen before a Pokemon game is made with actual effort?

How'd Nintendo gonna respond to Game Freak's decisions regarding the pokemon franchise?

The slogan of the series as far as the general public is concerned is still 'Gotta Catch 'em All' and they've fucked it up. Meanwhile other first party franchises on the Switch are at new heights of popularity. Smash, Zelda, and Mario are doing their best to move consoles. Fire Emblem's graphics are shaky and flat, but everything else about it demonstrates an improvement for the series. This is juxtaposed with Game Freak, who a month ago said that their new IP 'Town' was the company's main focus. Game Freak co-own the biggest franchise in history, and are half-assing the transition to consoles. Imagine if Sword and Shield came out of nowhere with true HD graphics, animation on the level of Battle Revolution (2006) and a reassurance that the National Dex were returning, instead of the current state where the basics of the game seem absent?

If Nintendo could do anything to twist the screws on Game Freak they would have done it by now, but the blackpill in all this could be that they've become desensitised to their total lack of passion or dedication Game Freak has to its money spinner

Nintendo probably goes something like:
>Are they making money?
>Yes, sir
>Well then.
Not even the first genocide in the franchice. Shit suck but i cant see GF changing any time soon.

It has to stop making money.
The question is how bad it can get before people stop buying.

>Not even the first genocide in the franchice
Yes, it is

Realistically it's because they want to keep profit margins as high as possible. It's why they won't hire more staff, either. It fucking sucks because the average Pokemon consumer doesn't pay attention to this sort of stuff. They're going to get away with having a bigger price tag for less content.

Change development teams

Nintendo to go bankrupt.

Game Freak would go bankrupt before making a high quality Pokemon game

>What needs to happen before a Pokemon game is made with actual effort?
For sales to tank. Mainline Pokemon titles have never sold below 15.9 mil. By comparison there have only been 50 games in all of history to break 16 mil, even with massive amounts of re-releases on multiple platforms. Pokemon, Mario, and Smash are currently Nintendo's three biggest franchises, and nothing's going to change while they're still selling like crazy.

You're saying this like GameFreak enjoys the arrangement. They're basically a sweatshop, unable to experiment and grow and diversify. People from inside had to find time to make their own games. The biggest culprit here is TPCI. Those ducks manage the brand and place guidelines/demands on Nintendo and GF for max synergy. They interfere with the creative process on all fronts and have a huge role in the franchise's stagnation. GF and Nintendo are also responsible, but TPCI is the biggest problem. There's not much good in telling at GameFreak when they're obligated to shit out a game on a near annual basis, they literally don't have the time or resources to restructure.

It honestly probably all centers around how "Town" will perform financially. I imagine that Town failing will probably break Gamefreak's spirit and give Nintendo the legal ammunition it needs to argue wasting resources on the new IP instead of going all in on Sword and Shield resulted in lost sales all around. That will probably be enough to get stock holders to side with Nintendo and push the heads of Gamefreak out/restructure the company.

On the other hand Town doing well might convince Gamefreak to hire more devs to support the new IP. Which will in turn probably create a more suitable/ larger population of developers to provide work on both IPs.

Personally I think more than likely Town will have to fail to see a quality improvement in Gamefreak. As I have little faith in their over all competence.

>Implying
Town is the devs trying to make something, anything other than Pokemon. It's their escape. Their carte blanche flop to ease the stress and ennui.

>wasting resources on the new IP instead of going all in on Sword and Shield resulted in lost sales all around
This will only happen if Sword and Shield actually have lower sales, and I mean drastically lower sales. Below 15 mil would probably be disappointing for them, but anything above 10 mil would still be chalked up to the Switch simply having a lower install base.

What people forget is that Pokemon isn't the games anymore. Pokemon is the multimedia franchise, with the games just being a part of it. The anime, the merchandise, the TCG, they all have a set time to release with a new generation, and the games are going to come out alongside them no matter what state they're in. You'd have to convince an entire industry to hold back every other aspect of it just so that the video game can have something that's not even in line with the current strategy of shilling the new stuff.

Pokemon is too popular for the games to be made good again.

>What needs to happen before a Pokemon game is made with actual effort?

They're never going to put effort in, the franchise is too big. If titles start selling less they will just put even less effort into the games.

>You're saying this like GameFreak enjoys the arrangement.
Nah, I say "they" as a blanket term for GF, Creatures and TPC. Frankly it's not the consumer's problem to account for their lack of staff and business model, I think I've only ever seen that kind of defense from the gaming crowd. Backlash finds a way to the bigwigs if it's strong enough, not that it will in this case.

>For sales to tank.

No, nothing will ever make them put in more effort. Just look at World of Warcraft or the Star Wars films, after franchises get too big they're fucked, nothing can ever save them. Pokemon just has too many fans with different tastes for Gamefreak to ever please them all so they aim for the lowest common denominator, if they start selling less they will just aim even lower and put less effort in.

Pokémon would need to stop being a massive cash cow, and that's never going to happen. It's time to let go, user.

>The slogan of the series as far as the general public is concerned is still 'Gotta Catch 'em All' and they've fucked it up
Only outside of japan

>animation on the level of Battle Revolution (2006)
Battle revolution literally reuses models and animation from an N64 game

>This is juxtaposed with Game Freak, who a month ago said that their new IP 'Town' was the company's main focus
Absolutely wrong information. What they said was that "Team 1" is making Town and "Team 2" is making Pokemon. If you did even the slightest, TINIEST bit of research you'd know that Team 1 is the Tembo/Giga Breaker team, aka a very small team of newcomers to the studio that work on smaller projects.

Instead you see "Team 1" and just immediately shit yourself because "THAT MUST MEAN IT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO THEM".

It should also be remembered that lots of teenage and adult Pokemon fans tend to forget that it's a series aimed mostly at kids, and they are made to appeal to whatever kids of current year might find most intriguing.
The competitive scene and long time fans don't matter financially when comparing to 10 years olds who buy the hell out of all the Pokemon products, not just games.

Which franchise is more innovative
CoD or Pokemon?

Unless the gen starting games sells enhanced edition numbers then no one in power will give a shit. A bomb would be nice but isn't going to happen.

Both games look like crap though

The game looks like shit based on a cinematic trailer and a screenshot? Are you retarded or just looking for shit to complain about?

What, Town? It's going to be a generic RPG, except you roam noyhing but a little village

>people weren't upset when certain Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon couldn't be caught in RS and had to wait for FR/LG/Events to get them since no Time Capsule.
>people weren't upset when Black/White 1 only had Unova mons until postgame (aside from Pikachu on a billboard and a bush trimming)
>current year, now people are mad that a game/region is trying to have it's own identity

top kek lad

you need to be 18 to post here

>people weren't upset when certain Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon couldn't be caught in RS and had to wait for FR/LG/Events to get them since no Time Capsule.
>people weren't upset when Black/White 1 only had Unova mons until postgame (aside from Pikachu on a billboard and a bush trimming)

In both cases all the Pokémon still existed in the game data. In the latter case, you could still transfer them in from older games. In SwSh, any Pokémon that doesn't make the cut can't be obtained AT ALL.

>>people weren't upset when Black/White
OH NONONONONO

>people weren't upset over R/S
>people weren't upset over B/W
It must be nice in that alternate timeline.

ALL OF THOSE GAMES STILL HAD THE POKEMON IN THE CODE

THEY WERE STILL CODED INTO THE GAMES

THE MISSING POKEMON ARE NOT CODED INTO SWORD/SHIELD

THEY WILL NEVER BE IN THE GAMES, EVER

THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE ARE FUCKING ANGRY ABOUT

FUCK

>people weren't upset over B/W
No, they weren't, because all you had to do was finish the story and everything could be transferred, there was no waiting for another game to come out or waiting for Pokemon Bank, you could transfer everything as soon as you finished the story and found the transfer facility

Because gen 5 is based and the best in the series. Doesnt matter if you have to wait until post game.

People were shook that you couldn't get all the pokemon in Ruby and Sapphire. Before Firered, Leafgreen, Emerald, Colloseum, and XD came out, some people genuinely did believe that some of their old favorites wouldn't be comign forward.

>people weren't upset at RS and BW
Nice bait.
Not to mention gen 3 was planned out to eventually allow catching everything, and was justified by an overhaul to the data structure of the mons, while BW was just a gimmick limited to the main story and allowed to transfer everything after you beat the league. The SS purge is much more aggravating because it is permanent and has no good justification.

people stop buying their games

But the Pokemon were still coded into the games, this is the key difference. I had a gameshark so I was able to obtain all the missing Pokemon in RS, the files and everything for them were still in the games even if they weren't obtainable legitimately. We knew all the Pokemon were in there from the beginning, we just couldn't get them until FRLG.

They reportedly couldn't get GB and GBA to talk to one another adequately to transfer Pokemon and they changed DVs and stat exp to IVs and EVs, which would have meant any gen I/II Pokemon transferred up would have had to have its stat exp wiped and had its IVs recalculated, as IVs ranged form 0-31 instead of 0-15. Stat exp allowed you to max out every stat, whereas EVs gave you a total number of points equal to two maxed out stats spread however you liked across two or more stats.

You'd have to re-train everything, and I don't even think it was possible for level 100 Pokemon to be EV trained as EVs weren't applied until the Pokemon leveled up, so a level 100 transferred from gen I/II would be stuck with base stats and zero EVs forever.

According to the ninten drones. It's not going to happen until Gamefreak lets Nintendo make the game

People are shook this time because the Pokemon are literally not in the games at all. There's no waiting for Home or another game to add them, they're never going to be in Sword and Shield. This is what people are pissed about and its absolutely not the same as what they pulled with Ruby and Sapphire, because those games still had every Pokemon in them.

No, they are definitely in the fucking code.

The issue is you wont be able to transfer them from the old games.

Game Freak is not obligated to make Pokemon. They choose to because it makes them money.

They aren't in the region and you can't transfer them.
Why would they be in the data at all?

>No, they are definitely in the fucking code.
They aren't. Too much work please understand

>No, they are definitely in the fucking code.
No, they fucking aren't. That's what this whole shitstorm is about, the Pokemon that are not in the Galar Pokedex ARE NOT CODED INTO THE GAMES.

And its not just this game, Masuda said this is what they're doing FOR ALL FUTURE GAMES. As in, no future game will EVER have all the Pokemon in them again.

>but anything above 10 mil would still be chalked up to the Switch simply having a lower install base.
LG:E/P sold roughly on par with S/M didn't it? I'm not sure that excuse would fly with investors.

LGPE sold 10m
nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/software/index.html

zoom zoom zoom.

You have some catching up to do, you stupid nigger. Hope you didn't fall for the LGPE meme if you like Pokemon at all.

>LG:E/P sold roughly on par with S/M didn't it?
No, SM sold over 16 million, LGPE sold about 10.

I feel like some people that may have been on the fence on LGPE bought it anyway because Gamefreak assured us the "real" core game was coming in 2019 and that LGPE wasn't taking development resources away from that 2019 game. And now we come to find that this wasn't the case, as they cite time and resource constraints as the reason to cut hundreds of Pokemon, all mega evolutions and Z-moves, despite already having the models and most animations.

SwSh will still sell millions but best-case scenario that's still somewhat realistic is that it sells a little worse than LGPE. Not holding my breath though.

>SwSh
Kill yourself

Well shit, I figured coasting off of GO's popularity would have had it see more than what the remakes typically get.

unironically COD

You CAN transfer older Pokemon from Home to Sword/Shield. However only if their species is native to Galar. Anything else is not in the code.

What do we call it?

Why SS of course :^)

You know what to call it. I won't give you the satisfaction of replying with "Soul Silver?"
