You're correct but Metroid isn't very reminiscent of Giger to begin with. It might be massively influenced by Alien, a movie Giger worked on, but that's where it ends really. Metroid lacks the cold, mechanical, body-horror, sexual aesthetics of Giger's art.

Everything starts "normal" for a certain definition of "normal" then everything goes batshit at the halfway point and from there on out I just rode on the waves of "something something shelter kids" and "something something Kamui". To their credit, they tried with KoF XII/XIII but it probably almost killed them (and caused the low roster in XII). Each character took 16-17 months to complete with a team of 10 different designers. That quality comes at a steep price.
