SF1 was hated and basically lambasted for being a "dumbed down Battle Network". Lots of people didn't like the restriction to three lanes, the auto-targeting for chips, everyone complained it was way too easy, and from what I remember Geo was really disliked but it's been so long I can't remember if that was entirely true with 100% certainty, it might have been a TWEWY Neku situation. There were also complaints about them taking out the Lunar Knights crossover stuff.
SF2 I remember people ragging on severely but that's deserved to be fair, the only thing I can really recall people enjoying was Rogue's style more than anything else. The tickle scene in particular was posted to laugh at the game from time to time, and occasionally you had the Tribe King being posted. Most of the complaints were about how often you had random encounters and that piece of garbage Mu.
SF3 I remember seeing a couple threads for it and people were saying it was a nice step up from the other two games. I remember also seeing people argue between BA and RJ. Past that I don't seem to recall any discussion.
It's seriously been so long though, I just remember we were coming off of BN6 and the vast majority just didn't like the series, though people have warmed up to it over the years. I think this tier list was from around 2010 or 2011? I had a hard drive failure around 2008 so I lost a lot of my old images otherwise I'd post some of them.
