>he either dies or betrays you

>All of the party members' sidequests are optional except for one member's, whose "sidequests" are mandatory for story progress
GEE, I WONDER IF LAO WILL EITHER DIE OR BETRAY US?

That's like complaining about the back cover of a book briefly summarizing the premise of the story.

The back cover of mystery dungeon spoils the fucking ending, they did this twice

>said character is also the best in the party by a country mile
fuck bros i'm still seething

Thanks for remending me
Now i'm mad

>party member name colors correspond to their alignment

Fuck i liked him

people who care about spoilers needs to be curb stomped

i shouldnt have to worry about spoiling a game that was made 22 years ago for someone, fuck off

t. Fatass bitch tits

The tales series is probably the most guilty of this. I prefer these kinda things being a surprise to the point where I even skip the theme song until I reach endgame.

Fucking NieR

It was a nice surprise.

>the hero dies so the guy who looks like him has to dress up like him and pretend to be him for the second half of the game

That guy's a fag, though.

>Party member dies
>The death scene goes on for like 10 minutes

>atlus wanted to stop people from spoiling the game by preventing gameplay online past a certain date
>goro isn't in the game's opening
as if they could make it anymore obvious he was the traitor

>as if they could make it anymore obvious he was the traitor
This, they really should have done more to make him a more integral part of the group to make it feel like he actually betrayed you. Because in the game it doesn't feel like a betrayal since it doesn't even feel like he was with you in the first place.

>Last playable member appears too late to really be useful

>Party member gets a heroic death
>5 minutes later he gets to the next dungeon before you did

Not him but FFXIII

I have other things to play, I'm starting to hate this stupid game!

Him being the traitor isn't the big reveal, the party knowing all along is.

>jrp
>3 member party
got tired of this shit

and then igor being fake, the twins being split, yaldy are all big reveals too
they're all "twists"

Dark Souls 3 has a final boss on the cover

Bravely Default

>You have to stall at the title screen twice to watch both the intro cutscenes or you won't have any idea what's going on in-game

Resonance of Fate is fucking weird

Spoiler culture is fucking retarded.
Learn to enjoy things without the element of surprise being your only vice in life.

>tfw everyone immediately figured it out before the game even came out
>everyone spent the whole game waiting for Airy to betray you

This. Knowing that something will happen later in the story doesn't mean you will enjoy it. You will still most likely enjoy HOW that something plays out.

I think you should look up vice in the dictionary

I like spoilers in hindsight with being able to go back and notice subtle hints about them that I wouldn't have noticed the first time round. The actual initial surprise isn't that important, The spoiler being well written is.

It really depends on the story, I don't think you'd enjoy say The Usual Suspects as much if you already knew what happens.

>you can only use 3 party members out of 7
>the other 4 magically stay the same level as the three you're using

That's a good thing.

Would improve ff10

That Kimahri fight when he's under-leveled as shit. That was a pain in the ass.

>The final boss is here and is an active threat to existence itself
>Party which consists of 7 people still only fights 4 at a time because

Attached: 1560532128285.png (687x652, 602K)

>complaining about this
You basically never played an old RPG where a party split at some point fucking you up because you never used all the characters.

This is the biggest bullshit.
And they do it all the time.

Mass Effect, Persona, all of them.

And it's completely arbitrary most of the time.
If they said, okay only 4 chars are in your party and the rest will go flank the enemy or do scouting or whatever, and this would result in different bonuses, depending on which char you chose.

Kind of like the ending of ME2 but applied to the entire game.
This would also give you a reason to switch your characters and not just stick with you favorites.

E.G in Persona 5 you could split the party. One Party goes to Mementos while the others are in the real work working on PT PR or gathering money. Make them do that too often and they'd get frustrated and refuse it and make it mandatory to take them into battle. This would also make them more realistic.

Fixing this flaw would be great.

It's fucking awful when games don't do this although it was amusing in Start Ocean 3 when you would level a low level party member

>Enter a high level area
>Want to use a different character but they're like 150+ levels below the 3 I was using
>Battle gauge for x3 XP
>Slap all EXP boosting gear on them
>Low level party member gains fucking dozens of levels

I want to say a level 1 can go to like 100+ in 1 fight like this it's crazy.

>party member dies
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Although not an RPG, Super Robot Wars series has something like this. XP gained is scaled by the difference between the character's and enemies' levels. So a low level character getting the last hit on a boss could actually level past your main team in one go. S' what made characters with the Mercy skill (leaves targets with 1 hp instead of killing them) really useful.

Yeah, arbitrary party size limitations always bugged me. It's one thing when the plot demands a party member not be available, but all the Final Fantasy games past 10 basically imply that the rest of your party is just sitting there watching until they tag out.

I'm pretty sure FFX had one scene near the end where the party actually did do a split into a boss and not-boss team. Doesn't explain every single other battle in the game though.

What game

Not him but Okami comes to mind

great game but it tries to convince you it's over after the first and second thirds of it

>final boss is just a really angry guy
>mc pulls out all the stops including 3 full parties and hundreds of bow and arrow peasants just to wound him

Tales of Vesperia

What game?

Tales of the abyss is worse, the game has a logical fucking endpoint halfway through and then keeps going after.
