unironically agree, it saddens me that so many people hate the piano music since I play piano myself
bait
i like the botw soundtrack too
Listened to this for weeks as I both completed the game and afterwards. The park music is so soothing.
I, too, enjoy listening to random piano notes for hours. Truly the thinking man's soundtrack.
It's good, honestly my problem is the same as the rest as the game. There's not enough for such a big open world.
BOTW had a soundtrack?
based, but you dun fucked up friend
>ITT: Underrated or underappreciated gaming soundtracks.
>two of the most popular games and game soundtracks from this generation of gaming
alright
Majora's Mask OST. Very overlooked when people discuss the game, it's so god damn good
youtube.com
BotW's soundtrack is amazing. Too bad it triggers people so it'll never be able to be discussed here.
What are your favorite tracks? I really like this one
youtube.com
how is botw's soundtrack popular? usually the line is "hurr durr no music" just because it doesn't have a big heroic field theme.
I just finished this and holy fuck, some of these almost brought me to tears
youtube.com
the game as a whole is underapreciated as fuck
falcom in general makes god-tier soundtracks.

great taste, I like the subtle MM clock town reference in this track:

I've noticed the gorgeous evolving dungeon themes don't come up much in BOTW music discussions, except obviously for Hyrule Castle.

Good taste. YS8 is fuckin great.
I'm so fucking stocked. It's been so long since I liked a game this much.
Have you heard the nasty combat music? That shit sounds like someone hitting random fucking notes. It's trash. The only good music are the ones that were just brought back. Fairy fountain and the rito village music being the dragon roost island ost.
fucking RIDGE RACER
No, it’s a F-tier shit.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 fucking SLAPS and people don't know about it (probably because few played the game lol). The best part is how each area had a calm theme and a warning theme that it would switch to seamlessly when enemies were nearby, but unfortunately you'd only hear them for like 5 seconds when they should have been the entire battle theme.

I truly think Bayonetta does not get the respect it deserves. Everyone always gushes the lyrical songs like Moon River and Tomorrow is mine, but there's a lot of good shit in cutscenes, in battle, and in game.

Luigi's Mansion 1 has a great soundtrack that uses variations on a theme to control atmosphere. There are multiple versions of the main theme that sync up and it cuts between them as you move between areas. Like, Luigi whistles the theme in light rooms, but he hums it in dark rooms, and different instrumental versions play in different areas. As you go through a door, it cuts to the same spot in the song for the room you're in. It does a really good job of altering the atmosphere as you move between rooms. Luigi's Mansion 1 is just underrated in general. I'd put it in the top 5 Nintendo games of all time, personally.
Who the fuck underappreciates the Nier: Automata soundtrack?
people can hate piano music? I get not caring about it, but what's so offensive about piano to cause active dislike
Lol right? Reminds me of threads on r*ddit where people refer to classics that everyone and their mother played as "underrated gems"
dunno but I've seen countless people describe it as "dumb plinky-plonky piano music"
I don't hate piano music. I actually play piano/keyboard myself. I just think BOTW's soundtrack is painfully subpar compared to Koji Kondo's orchestral masterpieces.
I always liked the combat music.
Sounds disorganized and discordant when you fight against weak enemies, but when stronger enemies close in the orchestra gradually gets its shit together and converges. There were a few times where those bars timed perfectly with some rad shit.
Dustforce has such a great soundtrack. The whole soundtrack, but these are my favorites.

I didn't know Majora's Mask's soundtrack was overlooked. It does have a really nice OST though.

The bits where you fight the guardians are top notch, it’s like piano computer music
Breath Of The Wild's music definitely sets a mood. My favorite thing was when you'd be riding your horse and gradually Zelda's lullaby would play, but it's slow and almost disjointed. My head cannon was that Link was daydreaming and even though he has amnesia he could almost just grasp his memories of Zelda, but they're foggy and he can't hold onto them. More like feelings than anything tangible.
I like Koji Kondo (if you like video games and don't, you don't have a soul) but I don't really know him for "orchestral masterpieces". Early video game composers tended to focus on simple yet catchy tunes.
it literally won Soundtrack of the Year at the Game Awards
Yeah, he had a lot of great atmospheric stuff too, I was mostly just thinking of overworld themes.like, compare Hyrule field themes from OOT, TP, and BOTW. The former two are what I would call orchestral masterpieces. BOTW just can't compare.
my thoughts exactly, both this and lightning returns had based OSTs

Obviously FFVI doesn't have an underrated soundtrack as a whole, but Epitaph is a very underrated track. It is just sad how so much more emotion and impact was achieved on a SNES compared to the soulless trash that Square puts out now.
My major problem with it is that it features very few entirely original compositions.
Kanon feels so nostalgic.

It's bizarre how they had four discs worth of music for this game and yet gave you sections of listening to the same song for hours at a time.
nearly every track is new, what are you talking about? the only rearranged tracks i can think of are rito village, zora's domain and zelda's lullaby, which has been varied so much it might as well be its own thing
>muh overworld
kondo's soundtracks are great and some of my favorites but are very different. he does a lot with little, the orchestration in botw is definitely much more interesting, complex and in service of the game design
tp wasn't kondo btw
>Didn't even post the best song

bro you just posted cringe
Mein neger!
Speaking of Square... I've never played this ''game'' because it's Japan only, but I do love the soundtrack. This first track reminds me of SaGa Frontier 2 OST for some reason:

Man all of the Key Visual Novels music makes me feel like i'm sitting outside on a bench during the summer during my childhood, waiting for my parents to pick me up.
Best OST in the SNES library outside of Follin's works, in my opinion.
>compared to the soulless trash that Square puts out now
What exactly are you comparing to? FFXIII's soundtrack was the highlight of the game and one of the best in the series. I haven't played FFXV but I've heard some of its music and it's blown me away.
Are you new, user? Ignore FF VI trolls. They are like Sonic fanbase.
>X360 (I have it)
>Japan only (fuck)
But it's region free. And costs over 100 eurodollars on ebay.
Fuck I knew I forgot something.
And then the theme comes back later for this fucking gutpunch of a song after SHTF.
youtu.be
I could listen to the underworld and tower themes forever.

A special mention to the ending theme for never failing to rip the hole in my heart back open.
youtube.com
God damn this brought me right back. I think that's the strength of this ost, it's not necessarily something you'd listen to in your spare time but it's perfect at evoking a mood, and the restraint in its field tracks fits perfectly with their concept of a "breathing" open-air world.
based hunterchad
Wow I love botw and the music but the track you posted is awful
It's absolutely criminal that they only used the full main theme over the credits. Sweeps me off my feet every time.
youtu.be
>TP
>orchestral masterpiece
you're a fucking idiot if you actually believe this
This is probably a normie-tier reply, but I fucking love the outside hyrule castle theme.
you need to wait until the strings start, it's a progressive piece that builds up the more you solve the dungeon.
>Mediocre game with godly music
>it's fucking nowhere to be found on the internet because the game is that obscure and kinda boring
Welp.
It's not really what one wants from a Zelda soundtrack and -- though I really like it -- I do miss the strong melodies and hope they come back in the next one, even if the minimalism served BotW well. Nothing quite matches the bombast and adventure of a good Zelda track and they too often fall back on rearrangements, it would be a shame to not get more.
>jumpstart 3rd grade
No, that game's soundtrack deserves to be shat on. Previous Zelda proved that you don't need minimalism to drive a compelling story. It's literally the weakest part of the game.
>underrated thread
>everyone gets out their .txt file to paste the same shit again
Can Falcom stuff really be considered underrated? Everyone who's listened to their music knows its god tier
I really like that theory. I never thought of it like that but it makes me wonder if that's what they were going for
brainlet
God tier soundtrack wasted on such a shitty MMO. Still makes me upset.

I don't know whether it was for this reason specifically, but the devs have mentioned before in an interview somewhere that most of the music is intentionally 'broken apart' to fit with the tone and setting of the game.
