It's a light sword the sages tried to execute Ganondorf with
he stole it and used it to kill them all, then kept it

Imagine taking a paladin's holy sword and killing him with it
it would inspire fear in all other paladins

Because it's the sword the Sages tried to execute him with. He even describes it as "this foul sword" just before his final phase.

That's the sword the Sages used to try killing him. He pulled it out of his chest and it was taken to the Twilight Realm with him.

He only killed one Sage, and that was by punching them so hard that they were vaporized by the force of it.

MAGIC

I always thought the energy sword on a pole to make an energy spear/lance would be nice
a bit anime, but still

Always love the Godswords, for some reason. I remember associating them with being top-tier shit when I was a kid, so now the design will always be stuck with me, despite how awkward it would be to use in all reality.

Yes, considering what BoTW did to it. Poor Fi, I guess the years where catching up to her.

That was such an awesome ganondorf moment, a shame the final fight itself was too easy.

Do you know what it is made of? Do you know the material properties of the substance? If it was made of standard materials then sure, those small cross-sections where it connects at the bottom would be silly. But it probably ISN'T made of normal materials with normal properties.

They look like they were designed to cut in every direction at once.

If your sword is not the size of your torso then you're doing something wrong.

God Hand in general got nerfed in the UFOtable adaptations. In Heaven's Feel II, Herc loses multiple lives to Excalibur Morgan, even though he should be immune to it after the first death. The VN only kills him once in that fight, so that the grail mud can swallow him without him resisting.

It looks like a kids toy

the noble keyblade, its dumber than hell and barely counts as an sword (you don't even attack with the teeth unless its fenrir) but for being the weapon of a character at the crossroads of disney and final fantasy it fits in with the silliness and looks like something that either side would wield
i can see a old rubberhose short of mickey using a giant key and a FF fucker using a key-shaped weapon would be the least unbelievable thing the series has produced
its dumb if you put it out of context but when you have it in its natural habitat of kingdom hearts it just meshes with the complete stupidity of the series and manages to leave a impact because of how well it works in that context

Attached: parking lot gear.png (840x840, 97K)

i've always been a fan of this one myself

Attached: mgs.png (350x350, 41K)

retardium doesn't make sword design less stupid.

Those little nooks and crannies are all places that can end up with blades stuck in them, not a great thing to have happen, if your sword gets in a bind like that it will be hard to retaliate or guard against to any kind of attack from a secondary weapon like a parrying dagger. The cross guard is actually useless because of the ornamentation and any blows that slide down the sword will simply reflect off the bottom bit of the blade (possibly into your face or other vital areas). The handle would be impossible to hold comfortably and as a result you will have poor edge alignment and no grip on the sword. Even if it is magic and can cut anything if you don't have a solid grip or proper edge alignment you won't be able to use the sword effectively at all, and I haven't even mentioned how the entire top part of the handle is blocked by the curly cross guard thing yet.

The master sword is at least somewhat passable but holy fuck is this one bad/

The fuck? In one shot or in multiple? Caliburn nukes seven in one shot, but if it's separate shots, that's bullshit.

alttp tempered sword GOAT.

Whatever this is, it looks beyond retarded. Literally edgelord doodling in his 6th grade class notebook in the corner during recess tier.

The master Sword is one of the cheesiest and ugliest videogame weapons in the history of videogames.

BFG, Moonlight Greatsword, Mega Buster, all way cooler looking weapons.

you ever play a game so bad that they bring back an older version of the same game and it gets 5x the playercount?

Attached: 1507598476933.png (290x310, 9K)

The gaps are very small, there's a MINUTE chance of shit getting stuck in them and IF that happens, it's probably worse for the other combatant. I don't really understand what you're talking about when you say "blows that slide down the sword will reflect into your face", I don't see how that's gonna happen at all. There's plenty of place for your hand on the handle (it's used one-handed in the game).

It's really a shame that modern Disney has the rights to the Keyblade and Lightsabers.
Speaking of which was there a sword in Diablo 2 that was called a Light saber or some shit?

>handle's literally a dildo

>Kondom Farts
Fucking christ that series never ceases to give me constant aneurysms. It boggles my fucking mind how anyone could come across it and think "Holy fuck I need to play that" or how some people even consider it good in any regard.
It's LITERALLY rawr xD the series and has no redeeming qualities. Even the combat is worse than trash, and the story is pulled out of each writer's ass and is all forced to work together by launch.

Attached: 1560037512868.png (590x1058, 30K)

I don't think the swords owner gives two shits about muh sword design considering it's a magic sword that is controlled telepathically.

There's multiple scenes of him getting sword beamed, after which his limbless charred body falls to the ground. Then his eyes start glowing again and he regrows all his limbs instantly. If that doesn't count as a lost life, I don't know what does, and yeah, it happened multiple times.

But I guess they wanted the fight to be flashier, and having Herc stuck in black mud until Salter blows him away once would be boring to watch

Attached: tumblr_poe7p1QR061vjp1az_1280.jpg (1280x897, 203K)

Yeah

Yeah
I want that
Except a whole game of it. And nothing but Fierce Deity.
And not restricted to waggle gimmick consoles.

I take your master sword and I raise you one rune sword

Attached: Rune_sword_detail.png (489x732, 18K)

The god swords are so fucking stupid looking yet they are still awesome.

Nintendo was only anal about waggle gimmicks in the Wii era, dude. Hardly any games make you move the Wii U gamepad, and on switch 99% of motion controls are optional, minus Super Mario Party

I raise your rune sword with my rune sword

Attached: SOTN_Runesword.gif (372x162, 104K)

>The gaps are very small, there's a MINUTE chance of shit getting stuck in them

anyone with experience will be able to get a dagger in there and bind the sword with a few tries, leaving the wielder open to an attack.

>it's probably worse for the other combatant.
not if it's directed and intentional and the opponent knows what he's doing.

>blows that slide down the sword will reflect into your face

the whole point of a cross guard is to shield the hands from an opposing sword sliding down the blade. With that blade profile any sword blow that glides down the blade will slide off and possibly end up on your body depending on the orientation of the sword. It's a painfully simple fix too, and honestly makes the sword look better in my opinion.

>There's plenty of place for your hand on the handle (it's used one-handed in the game).

I don't think you understand how sword handles work. If you can't shift your grip effectively you have a major disadvantage in terms of maneuverability and accuracy. Having bits in the way is just detrimental in every way. You also lose the option to use the blade two handed if needed.

Attached: file.png (814x1648, 1.06M)

Attached: Type-IX-1.jpg (2126x1417, 277K)

shame they hardly ever got used irl

i was half expecting the text to say "ur a faget" or something

Well they kinda did, but in very limited circumstances. Military application were limited in Landsknecht armies to anti-pike formation roles, and that lasted for about forty years in the first half of the 16th century before they were rendered obsolete for that role - gunpowder was beginning to reshape the European battlefield. As a result, most of what we see with big two-handed swords following that period lies in civilian bodyguard roles all the way until the latter half of the seventeenth century, with such works such as Diogo Gomez de Figueyredo's "Memorial da prattica da Montante" - giving rules for such things as fighting in narrow streets or on a ship's gangway. This however, was restricted mainly to Portugal (were the aforementioned treatise comes from) and Italy, where it is called "spadone" and masters such as Francesca Alfieri made treatises on its use in the late 1500's - early 1600s.

Attached: tumblr_otq13oS4Tb1qbrih3o1_400.jpg (288x600, 23K)

>keep recycling OoT Master sword when the ALttP design is far better

>civilian bodyguard roles

yeah i heard that too. Pretty sure they mostly served as an intimidation factor but could still be used effectively in combat with multiple people who were lightly armed.

For me, it's the Murasama.

Attached: Murasama.jpg (1890x1215, 249K)

Range was the name of the game. long as you knew how to swing it to get people to stay the fuck away from you, you coudl hold off a good three-five people with it - provided you knew what the fuck you were doing.

From Figeuyredo's "Memorial":

>XVI [Simple]: This rule is for fighting in a wide road with people in front and behind. You will give a talho from behind while standing still and another forward putting in the right foot, readying the thrust over the right arm, which you will give forward while standing still. Then sensing people behind, you will ready from the thrust that you gave another with the pommel of the montante on the right shoulder, which you will give putting in the right foot toward the direction from where you started the rule. This gives rise to a revez which you will give putting in the left foot, and circling with the montante you will remove the right foot, and you will start the rule again.
>XVI [Composed]: You will plant your left foot forward and you will give a talho raising the montante over the head to come to circle on the right side and you will give it while standing still; and then another talho putting in the right foot and another removing backward the left foot. Then you will ready a thrust over the right arm, which you will give while standing still, and another thrust with the pommel on the right shoulder which you will give moving the right foot forward. Then the left foot will go with the revez, which you will give removing backward the right foot, and another revez moving the left foot forward, from which will originate a thrust over the left arm which you will give while standing still, and from that a revez removing backward the right foot, ending in the first state in which you began the rule, and so you may proceed again, if necessary

It is.
Double bladed and pointed to stab and slash so it's versatile.
Good crossguard.
Pommel so can be used one handed.

It's a great sword

why buy a sword when you can grow one?

Attached: just pass me the eight inch blade.png (471x350, 169K)

it's a sword you can only get post game by defeating some dragon fucker and asking for a sword as the prize.

Fucking hate when shit doesn't have any semblance of realism.
No pommel and it's wielded one handed.

you can totally stab with a katana though. Maybe not as effectively as an arming sword or longsword, but you can still do some amount of damage with a stab.

Fuck you, the energy sword is radical.

Not enough games have sweet executioners swords. The mercury core is a cool addition.

Attached: Sevarian.png (492x900, 366K)

Impressive. I never liked the original design, this one is miles better.

And it took me like 5 seconds in mspaint. amazing what a little realism can do.

Why is it fucking purple, never understood that

Purple was seen as a color for royalty.

There are. Fuck, imagine cutting through anything with superheated plasma.

Attached: zsaber.jpg (500x573, 49K)

How the fucks is the energy sword heavy? Its fucking plasma!

interesting point bout these and lightsaber-y type weapons. they don't need to be sword shaped because blade geometry is irrelevant. also due to how light they most likely would be, you could get away with one that is super fucking long and wide like the thing doomguy swings around.

Since when is Alastor overrated?

>realismfags
Yikes. Honestly, realistic weaponry can be coolf if done right (which it never is), but nothing quite matches the feeling of sending enemies flying with your giant blade of death that's heavier than you.

What the fuck, i reverse image searched this and this was the first image?

Attached: 20190623_040121.jpg (1080x984, 461K)

love it

Attached: chaoseater.jpg (1920x1080, 234K)

The master sword looks simple, but of you made it irl it would be a fucking awful sword.
The hilt doesn't allow other blades to slide off and that narrow bit of the blade base is a structural hazard. All that etching doesn't help with resistance either.

Looks like shit ingame but I like the concept.

Attached: Rytlock Brimstone.jpg (1698x955, 209K)

That crossguard still isn't great. You don't want stuff stuck in there either.

>sword
You ever look at a word too much and suddenly it looks really fucking weird

My personal favorite

Attached: altsword.gif (143x562, 21K)

I don't get why so much people like pic related. I found it to be stupid as shit since I first saw it

Attached: masamune.png (259x385, 79K)

thats true but it's far better than the original design and at least it offers some protection. I didn't want to take away the fantasy elements entirely because that isn't the point I was trying to make. The idea is to strike some kind of balance between realism and fantasy, something the master sword does pretty well.

If you say any word enough times it begins to sound strange, possibly dude to the lack of context in repeating the word over and over, or maybe it's because you begin to see the word as a word instead of what the word symbolizes.

I'd like to know if anyone has done any kind of formal research into this phenomenon.

I still don't understand how that series just got so completely off the wall banana nut bread retarded. Well yes I do, Tetsuya Nomura, but what I mean what I don't understand is Tetsuya Nomura.

>Hey we got a fun game about going on an adventure with Donald and Goofy what should be our story
>Something something light something heartless, nobodies, Roxas, cellphone tie in that explains this shit that you won't play.

It's a great design. it looks fantasy enough to satisfy braindead normies but it is functional enough to satisfy realismfags

>muh pommel

You guys know that it never had much practical use in combat, right?

Stop following sword YouTubers

oblivion weapon designs were honestly really bad
morrowind and skyrim were better, for glass specifically, skyrim's iteration was the best

It's vital to the sword's balance.

No they aren't. The core blade does all that.

>LttP, the game that the Master Sword debuted in, had upgrades beyond it
>every game afterwards has the Master Sword as the end-all be-all
I don't get it.

I like it because it's a legitimate European broadsword in a European style that isn't unrealistic or unwieldy in its design.
It would actually be useful on a real battlefield

Never held a sword.
A regular sword's center of mass is close to the crossguard and the pommel gives weight on the other side of the hilt allowing you to swing more fluidly.

oracle games are easy to find roms for and fun as hell especially with the linked trade quests

Handle yeah but not pommel. Pommel is almost purely decor

Also, the Hylia shield is an equally usable (albeit rather ornamental) heater shield

I'm really hoping that they add more weapon types to the pool in BOTW2, rapiers would be a nice addition.

Biggoron sword is stronger than master sword though. Other games just shifted the focus to the Master Sword's full power being endgame as the compromise for giving it to you early-game. And there are stronger swords than it even in BOTW until you include the trials powerup.

I think the point is to show off how powerful Sephiroth is. He's able to wield such a ridiculous super long sword effortlessly. Also good for stabbing Aerith with.

Which is funny because the Noble Sword sprite in the Oracle games looks just like that before you pick it up.

I'm looking forward to a new generation of FF7 players realising that the buster sword is worthless trash thrown in the garbage as soon as you find your first weapon store.

I just grab myself a fish and have at it. Capcom needs to never make a super serious entry like World again and add the joke weapons back.

I'll always prefer a plain sword, but a little bit of special snowflake is okay if it's within reason. Most fancy fictional swords have zero restraint and get tacky incredibly quickly.
