Depends. If you have social stage fright then no, if you act anything different than yourself then you're bound to fit in somewhere.

Maybe but if you get rejected in VR too your life is essentially over

yes, but also make sure you have adequate space to use it (definitely at least 2x2m open space, really preferably 3x3m)

About to say fuck it one click away from buying Vive Pro for a grand. Someone tell me something to push over the edge or to tell me I'm wasting my money.

The Vive Pro is borderline scam

Why the fuck would you get a vive pro instead of an index
get a hold of yourself man

>That being said good luck getting an Index before 2020
Fuck... I actually wanted to get one soon

Better get your reservation in asap then
They don't charge you until it's ready to ship so you can cancel if you change your mind.
First wave of shipments is going out right now. When it hits and people start talking about it, expect preorders to go through the roof again.

Holy shit thanks, getting mine asap then.

I skipped on the vive and this seems leagues better. I tried the vive and its awesome. First wave hopefully I will get it next week.

Don't scare me, it's a 1k dollar purchase why is it a scam? It appears to be similarly specced

Beat Saber is a must buy.

youtu.be/V5PRT0uKhgU

How the fuck is it a thousand dollars? It's $800 for the headset alone (complete ripoff) and $1400 for the full bundle.
The screen is on par with the $300 Samsung Odyssey+ and HTC only got away charging so much for it because prior to the Index there was nothing competing in the high end space.
If you waited this long, wait a little longer and get the Index bundle so you don't have to put up with HTC and their shitty wands.

Worse controllers, worse audio, worse potential framerate, worse fov i think, worse pixel arrangement, but better black levels. Index is better in almost every way

Oh correction, looks like it's $1100 for the bundle.
Still a huge ripoff unless you 100% need wireless and that's gonna cost ya.

>Real VR is matrix/SAO
retarded argument.
"oh man cars aren't REAL transportation, real transportation is instant transmission, why are you wasting your time and money!"

"planes aren't REAL flying, REAL flying is mutating over thousands of years to develop wings and fly like a bird!"

this is VR today, this is the closest we'll ever get to the matrix/Sao in our lifetimes, if you want to fucking die an old man holding out for technology you saw in an anime you are a fucking clown

>what do you mean VR is a meme? theres loads of games
>"like what?"
>uhh that counter strike VR game, that rhythm game that's guitar hero but with waggling, and ummm.. skyrim?
oh no no no

I literally love every single game you posted and have played hundreds of hours on each game.

Attached: 1389298410787.jpg (450x450, 28K)

I only have a WMR headset but it was very worth the money. Lots of fun and some great experiences with it

>About to say fuck it one click away from buying Vive Pro for a grand
Please be bait.

Have a look at some games you'd be interested in first. If you can find a few of those you might as well get one if you're really interested. I bought mine because I wanted to play Serious Sam VR and Superhot, was not disappointed. After that you'll be able to branch out and try new things, which you'll definitely find in VR.

Don't buy a Vive Pro. It's more expensive than Index but worse in pretty much every regard.
>screen is pentile OLED, which actually means Index has 50% more subpixels than Vive Pro despite the "same" resolution
>Vive Pro is only 90Hz, while Index is 120Hz, up to 144Hz
>Index comes with Index controllers, which should be vastly superior
>Index probably has better audio too
>Index has greater FoV
There's basically nothing Vive Pro does better. I guess black levels might be better because it's OLED and Index uses LCDs, but that's it. Definitely not worth the money, especially since OLED screens in VR HMDs don't actually turn the pixels off to display black because that would cause black smear, so the difference between LCD won't be as pronounced as in non-HMD use cases.

>that rhythm game that's guitar hero but with waggling,
it's like ddr with waggling you fucking idiot and it's the best rhythm game to come out in years

>especially since OLED screens in VR HMDs don't actually turn the pixels off to display black because that would cause black smear
O+ does and it indeed causes black smear in extremely dark games. Still love it but switching to Index as soon as I can.

>wait for the valve gaems

Attached: 1534022925959.jpg (583x700, 49K)

being a part of vr in these early days feels like going back to what the internet was like in the late 90s early 00s. all the social interactions are civilised and funny, there's a lot of experimentation going on when it comes to the games being made, plus there aren't as many jaded angry retards to put up with.

>someone actually holds this opinion unironically

Attached: vrchat.jpg (570x563, 39K)

didnt they announce 3 "flagship" games that launch with their set?

We assumed they'd be launch titles because that made sense and is competitive
Valve as always is on a whole different level and haven't dropped one ounce of info on the games other than that they haven't been cancelled

Attached: 1537870797204.gif (460x254, 750K)

No, they said something is coming later this year IIRC. They certainly did not actually announce anything.

the Ugandan knuckles invasion was basically chanology, playing vr chat in the months before that was a great time. then obviously it was no surprise that 99.9% of the knuckles were non-vr tourists looking to meme it up.

What would you categorize as VR then becuase you're not going to see VR as anything aside from this within your lifetime.

HP Reverb sounds promising for the price point. What's the overall opinions?

So good it's sold out.

Attached: 1557419704254.png (1413x2048, 2.86M)

1. Good luck finding one
2. It's still got bog standard WMR controllers when Touch and Index exist but hey at least they're not Vive wands
3. Inside out tracking is serviceable but has a ton of problems that aren't talked about enough
4. Apparently has some launch issues that HP is scrambling to address
5. The screen is by most reports, godlike as long as you have the hardware to take advantage of it

Thinking about getting a set so I can watch movies and anime. Thoughts?

Yeah even if you dont play with it all the time, it's like a trip to disney world in your living room. If you got cash to burn, it's a high class experience.

Yes. While you're at it you should buy a Wii too.

bad idea

Probably the next best alternative if you can't afford your own movie theater but seems like a waste to use it for just that, resolution might not be up to what you'd expect

Got any recs on which set to get?

Apparently there were a lot of manufacturing issues causing defects in the screens, so it kept getting delayed and only a few people were able to get it. But supposedly if you can actually get one it blows everything else out of the water.
Using scopes in shooters is a pain in the ass with WMR but most other things are fine

It sounds like you're fairly knowledgeable on these headsets. Is there any VR headset coming out in the near future that's worth waiting for which isn't ridiculously expensive? I'm afraid of buying a headset because it seems like they're all still in early states of development.

I wouldn't think it's worth it. While I don't know what it would be like on one of the higher res headsets, it's fairly likely that you won't get enough resolution to do the video justice and the SDE would get in the way. What's even the point of doing that, anyway? Just get a large enough monitor (or TV) for your viewing distance.

when are preorders going back up?

Are the social game free of prole? Does the high cost just to play VR keep the poor and their poor thoughts away from the community? Is it like the internet before the poor flooded it and became available to everyone?

You think it's the poor that caused issues? Who do you suppose was popularizing the Iphone because I can promise you it wasn't initially the poor. It took quite a while until smart phones were financially viable to the "poor".

What about using it for porn

That's insane.

Not him but virtual reality is when the reality your mind is experiencing is virtual. With current VR you still get information from your physical senses. You're literally just strapping a TV to your face and standing in front of a kinect. The "correct" term would be fully augmented reality. Dreams would be a form of virtual reality because you can feel, hear and see things without using your actual senses. It's just marketing though because no one but me and apparently that user give a shit about the distinction.

Fucking amazing for the first time. Boring after the 3rd and 4th time, because most VR porn is you stuck in one position while the girl does her thing. This is also not including the scaling issues which makes some girls look like giants, unless that is your thing.

VR porn games are just janky as fuck and also maybe just good for one or two faps, then you've seen everything. In my case, I usually just want to get it over and done with quick and not spend hours to find the right and perfect setup for my VR fap.

The only upcoming headset is the Vive Cosmos and I wouldn't wait for it. HTC are deadbeats who gouge their users and incapable of real competition, but they'll be releasing more info on it soon. Who knows maybe they'll actually try now that they aren't coasting on Valve's reputation.
You should look at the low-mid HMDs like Odyssey+ ($300) Rift S ($400) and Quest ($400) these should last a while and I don't expect hardware to progress very quickly after this batch. Granted they all use inside-out tracking.

I think everyone understands the distinction, but AR is as viable method of becoming as immersed as you really can get. Not to imply that connecting the mind directly into a machine isn't at all possible, however even once it is possible, the dangers will keep any commercial technology from being released for a very very long time.

I don't think it will happen ever, but it could.

Not really. If you find yourself in good company you're just with other people with the same social issues as you.
If you truly want to be likeable to normies you have to step out and interact. Even if it's just your postman or neighbor, just make small talk and eventually you will get good at it.

Your email that confirmed your reservation

So there's no online place to see it, I guess? I reserved pretty early but the e-mail I got does not have an estimate, it just says I'll be notified when it's available. The estimate on Steam when I actually made the reservation was some time in August, but those seem to have shifted a bit so I would've liked to see an update.

>since I'm not a defective human being and my inner ears actually function
Actual cope

this has always been one of the most autistic arguments i've ever heard.

>dude it's not SAO so it's not real VR

i started typing this response in anger before finishing reading your shitpost and you actually said SAO jesus christ

Not sure. Maybe yours is just a ways off so theres no estimate yet.

>glasses compatibility
if i'm nearsighted as fuck, can see very well things that are closer than 8" or so, but blind otherwise. would i even need to wear glasses with a headset?

When did you order yours? My estimate on Steam when I reserved was in August, yours is in September, so I'd guess I reserved before you did.

it's a gimmick you get bored of pretty fast i.e. not worth anything since it has no actual good games besides the overdone retard formula.

Yes, the headset lenses are designed so that you're focusing in the distance. You do need glasses if you've very nearsighted. I use mine with a Vive and it works fine, but supposedly other HMDs can have less room

VR isn't a gimmick. If you can honestly hop into Space Engine VR and not immediately realize how fucking fantastic this shit is going to be for educational purposes then you're a retard

It's a fantastic step forward and just because it's lacking in games doesn't mean the concept and technology isn't fantastic

In VR probably. I'm a fairly outgoing person and I have the same mannerisms in VR as I do in real life. Even when those mannerisms don't translate to VR. So if you stay conscious of what you're doing in VR you can probably use it to train your social skills and boost your confidence.

>hating on the best headset on the market
So what? Enjoy paying more for less.

I'm close to buying the rift s. I've never had a vr headset, but I'm pretty interested, and the inside out tracking is pretty appealing to me because of my limited space.
Is it a decent headset for a first timer?

Haha nice bro I wish I could murder you, in vivecraft

Attached: 1305452058510.jpg (858x483, 141K)

At this stage VR is still in its cancerous state of incremental improvements to profit from people.

No it's dogshit and oculus software hypnotizes you into being a gay sissy boy

so for sim games is it better to wait for an index or go three monitors and buy a second PG278Q (have a PG279Q for middle screen).
I only have a single 2080, I don't know how demanding running three monitors in some super ultra wide resolution is.
I have noticed since getting the second monitors my temps are up a couple degrees.

Yes it’s worth it, currently the best controllers on the market until index releases, best games, support will literally give you another rift if anything happens to your headset unlike HTC which will keep it hostage.

Three screens?
Nigger go try VR. Also you don't need an Index for sims though it won't hurt especially if you mean to do other things with it.

>best games

support is good though

Attached: 1412340798556.png (207x239, 21K)

I want to try VR =(
I've been holding out for a 1440p 144hz model for years and I fucked up and didn't preorder the index right away

every oculus exclusive is worth playing, and then there’s stormland, Lone Echo 2, Defector, and respawn’s vr game coming out.

based

It's a downgrade from the original Rift from most points of view. I wouldn't really recommend it, but I guess it might be fine for a first-timer, just keep in mind that the tracking is sub-par and that will likely impact your experience in some games.

lol

VR gives you a sense of three dimensional depth, screens just can't compare to it. Like you'll fall out of your chair the first time you do a barrel roll in VR.
Index is supposedly the most well rounded HMD "available" at the moment but if you're using HOTAS, motion controllers don't matter so much and you can get away with something a fraction of the price with better or equivalent screens like the Odyssey+ or HP Reverb.
The main problem with the Index atm aside from the price is that it's backordered for fucking months yes I'm mad about it

>downgrade from the original Rift
It's a $250 lenovo wmr being sold for $400 to make up for the Quest being sold at a loss.
Also Valve isn't really prioritizing SteamVR support for it and there are numerous issues, Rift S users are having a bad time judging by all the whining.

It's a slight downgrade in some areas, but it's a massive upgrade in one area that matters the most - screen. CV1 looks like dogshit in comparison.

VR = Very Reddit

WMR always did have nice screens...

what are some actual vr games besides Beat Saber

I would not consider a downgrade in tracking worth it for a slightly better screen, which comes with the major caveat of not having adjustable IPD. Tracking in the end dictates if, or how well, you can play the games while a higher resolution screen just improves image quality, which is already good enough to actually play the games. Let's also not forget that Rift S also refreshes at 80Hz, which is below the recommended minimum for VR and quite possibly low enough that some users may notice flicker because of the screen strobing. I for one remember seeing flicker on CRTs below 85Hz, so Rift S is right on the edge.

The only upgrade Rift S has is resolution - everything else about the screen is worse and almost everything else about the headset in general is also worse.

O+ doesn't have equivalent screens to Index, they're pentile if I'm not mistaken, which means that Index actually has 50% more subpixels.

We're doing it just to make you mad, bet you wish you were this rich lmao

>doesn't work with older or preexisting games like everyone hyped about

This isn't console shit, mate. SteamVR can remap controllers pretty easily.

hows that vr garys mod coming along?

Exactly how big of a tracking downgrade are we talking? I've heard that it's not that bad and mostly affects movements behind your back

Speaking on actual practical shit, it loses tracking when one controller covers up another e.g. holding a rifle up to your face and when the controller is too close to the HMD e.g. drawing back an arrow
You can work around this but it's awkward and uncomfortable and sorta gimps you
Then there's stuff like having to have bright lighting on all the time

I've been thinking of getting a rift s, now I'm not so sure. The inside out tracking was appealing to me because of how little actual free space I have in my room.

Inside out is better for avoiding unsightly sensors mounted around the room or if you want to use the HMD in different places all the time. It doesn't have much to do with the amount of space.
It works 90% of the time but it is a compromise and personally I can't stand it anymore.
However if you want to go with constellation or lighthouse your options are very limited now.

I'll have to think things over more. $400 is already about the max I'd like to pay. Unless I get a much higher paying job I think the index is just too much money for me to justify spending on a headset

what are some actual games

Nah. I bought the original Vive on release and I had my VR fix for the past couple of years. I would guess we're still like 4-6 years away from a proper headset. The weight of current HMD's (including Valve's Index) needs to be reduced by at least 75%. This shit is still too heavy and clunky.

the first orders ship friday if i remember correctly
t. bought cons and stations

Rift S should be fine, only other option in that range with better tracking would be to track down a CV1 or a Vive. Neither have the greatest screens though and they're the reason people whined about SDE in the first place.
Some people have covered Rift S tracking issues more in depth on youtube, might want to take a look.

I have the money and don't care to because it has barely any games I'm interested in. I also don't care about porn. If it gets some cool games I'm in, but until then, I've got lots of other shit to play.

can I pirate these games and play them on my vive?

Yes.

some of them work with revive

what's revive
do I have to buy anything?
cause I'm not buying anything

I'm not sure why you tards try so hard to evangelize VR to other tards
We're fine. VR is fine. VR doesn't need more tards.

your mouse isn't a real mouse either lmao
just fuck off dude

You can play Oculus games on the Vive via Revive: github.com/LibreVR/Revive

You can use their Store that way, but some of the bigger releases afaik also got pirate releases.

The PSVR titles are mostly only released on PlayStation, so that's not possible, though some come out on PC later. Afaik GNOG is on Steam and Falcon Age got an "Epic Store" release.

>Vive Pro
Don't buy that outdated shit.

revive is just some github mod you put in steamvr

>wasted another evening on Yea Forums instead of exploring the wonders of VR
Fuck i wish it was easier to check up on threads inside VR

I'm mostly into SinglePlayer games, but can wholeheartedly recommend some of them.

Arizona Sunshine is good if you want to have some fun shooting zombies.

Robinson The Journey is a fun Puzzle Exploration game by CryTek with dinosaurs, kinda like Portal but less about Platforming and more about Puzzles.

Moss is pretty good, but it's short, like 4-5 hours for the first "Episode".

Star Trek Bridge Commander if you ever wanted to command a space ship in Star Trek.

Tethered if you want to play a Black & White kinda game.

Dreadhalls for a tense Dungeon Crawler/Horror game.

Lunar Flight is a pretty cool Lunar Lander Sim with missions, it also got Mars missions and the likes, you usually have to go places and land to pick up stuff, bring it somewhere else etc. It has recently gotten Touch support.

Hellblade is a fun game in VR, although it ain't exactly very complicated, there's some fighting and puzzle solving in a Norse mythological world.

Obduction if you like tough Puzzle games by the people who made Myst with great World Building and a Sci-Fi backstory.

The Solus Project you land on a lonely planet and need to survive and discover shit. It's kind of a Survival game where you have to find caves and combine items and shit with exploration on an alien planet with a dead alien civilization.

Kona is a cool Exploration Adventure game but the VR port is a bit ehh...

Brass Tactics gotta be the best RTS I've tried in VR.

Robo Recall can be some fun to shoot robots.

Lucky's Tale/Edge of Nowhere are Meh 3D Platformers, but playable enough.

Elite Dangerous/Euro Truck Sim 2/Project CARS, Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally, IL-2 Sturmovik, DCS World, XPlane 11 etc. are good if you are into Sim stuff and have Wheel+Pedals or HOTAS Setup and you can have hundreds of hours of fun with them.

>panzerwehr 1949
Is this even still in development? The last video posted was 2 years ago, and the website doesn't even exist anymore.

>overhyped. It was a good combat system but dev time is so fucking glacial that the promised RPG around it is far off
He's been making good progress though its true that the game won't be anywhere near complete for a very long time. And modding is fun. Someone just added a fucking pirate ship.
It's probably one of the best games for just blowing off steam, just deeply satisfying and a great reason to get VR since Boneworks won't be out any time soon.
