What are your thoughts on Doom Eternal so far? I've seen plenty of people say that Eternal should just be DLC for nuDoom. At that, nuDoom was a big jump for the franchise, whereas Eternal will be a sequel to said jump. Will it be able to hold its ground?

I'm not sure what the fuck they're playing at with that weird double shot gun, it could have just been a wrist mounted grappling hook or something, imo one of the reasons the super shotgun was always cool because it was such an inappropriate weapon for the setting.
Dark Souls style invasions is dumb, hopefully it's not going to be forced on you like almost every other game that does this shit. Same with extra lives, hopefully that's just an easy mode thing.
At the end of the day it's just en expansion of Doom 4 which is a good thing, here's hoping they don't fuck it up.

I think he's talking about all the color in it, which is nice to have for a change instead of more brown n bloom shooters, but even I'll admit it looks garish at times, especially with the HUD.

I'm assuming there's a console controller button issue or something where they didn't think they could map the grappling hook as a universal suit ability. But they probably figured most people have the super shotgun on quick-swap 90% of the time anyway, and realistically if you're grappling into things you want it out when doing so, which makes it an okay compromise.

I dislike it because it's not even consistent with how the original Doom games handled powerups. Things like beserk and max health were still contextualized within the game's setting. There weren't giant floating coins or helmets that literally say "1up" above them. It's like they're trying to emulate Rise of the Triad for some reason.
On top of that Eternal still handles some things like health upgrades and collectable perks in an "immersive" way (i.e. they're represented by demonic shrines that Doomguy interacts with), so now the game suffers from this weird, inconsistent presentation. They should have just stuck with the way 2016 handled it.

Hugo and that other guy didn't even have a distinct vision for 2016. They nearly made the Call of DOOM we know of, before someone from Bethesda saw it and proclaimed it wasn't Doom. It's why the echo log scenes just sort of happen without any context as to why, when the year prior we saw it as a device dedicated to the specific scenes, or why some later levels are linear as fuck and essentially one-track-paths compared to the content that came prior. 2016 was a last-minute hodgepodge of random ideas and fan feedback from solely the E3/Quakecon trailers.

The game looks fantastic overall, but I hate the lives system. When I first thought about it I thought it was gonna be like Doom 4's Arcade Mode lives, as in limited checkpoint restarts, and was pretty damn disappointed to find out what they really are. I guess there's hope that they add an option to make them work like the previously mentioned Arcade lives

The live system seems so odd, like something that should be in a no-saves mode or that could be either relegated to a easy mode or replaced by clever design, giving you some invisible boosts when you are low on health.

sequences that interrupt the game are bad and people should openly criticize them before they end up doing it more. triggering a cut to black or getting stuck in a room while somebody mouths off is annoying.
Glory kills aren't fast unless you use the runes. They're actually a pretty gay mechanic overall, they should just give you a basic punch and have them burst into treats if you kill them up close.

Yes. I agree, give players the option to skip those in a "dynamic" way, like just walking away, or shooting speakers, whatever. That way you're not stuck in them.

I don't know about this one, I liked the way it was done, that it was a nice callback to the end of Episode 1 where you're swarmed by demons after the fight against the two Barons of Hell, it was a nice way to show through gameplay that things were going to hell.
