No but NieR Automato will spoil the fuck out of NieR, so if you plan to play both, you should play NieR first.
If you can play it, you should yes.
Playing Automata first wrecks Nier’s narrative, but you don’t need to play Nier to play Automata
play automata first. save the better game for the last.
It's not required but it will make the experience better.
Nier Automata is like what happens 10,000 years after Nier.
It's loosely related, as long as you don't mind getting totally spoiled on the retarded Project Gestalt plotline.
Does Nier still holds up or does it feel clunky?
You should absolutely play it before Automata.
You need to play the drakenguard games and get all the endings first.
Then play Neir get all the endings, then read all the novels that come with it.
Then you can play Automata.
Mr.Taros lore is vast and deep like your moms vagina
It's clunky as fuck, but far from being unplayable. Also don't listen to the guy you've answered to, the other answers are absolutely correct
It's clunky but it's a great game.
better sidequests better characters better story. gameplay is robust but serviceable but the again automatas is floaty but serviceable. its like 2 ends of a spectrum when it comes to combat and both feel off in different ways.
Automata is a bad game that spoils NieR, a good game.
Don't think with your dick and play the games in order.
Is there a way to play Nier on PC?
If yes please provide download links and explain how to do it.
If you love this game you must do this.
Nier is clunky, but still less clunky than 90% of other “classic” games that people love.
>People shit on Nier
>But people love shit like demon’s souls or old GTA
>should I play the good game before I can play the bad one
Automata is a lesser game to NieR in every aspect except combat and even that is debatable
doesn't feel clunky at all; the combat is very fulfilling.
rpcs3. you can even play replicant version with english script modded in, though they dont match always with voiceover but eops cant be choosers.
souls and gta games have for more redeeming qualities than the first nier
automata has boring combat but is put above the first game by its clever use of the medium to tell the story, better music, and far more interesting characters
its literally fine as far as 7th gen jrpgs go; you could do much worse
but the sequel stomps it, with or without the help of 2b's ass
>replicant
disgusting.
time skip in replicant is infinitely better
>better music
There are subtleties in automata that will go over your head if you didn't play nier. It's not required, but I do think in terms of making it a better experience you should
Any pretty bullet gell hack & slash other than Furi? I love Automata's concept of bullet hell bosses but you can easily dodge/defend/shoot against every bullet, but has there been any that set the bar?
I was planning on starting with Drakengard to then play Automata but then I remembered Nier exists, that's why I was asking the proper order, I still have a ps3 so I assume finding a used copy is not that hard.
Does Replicant add new content?
Are second and third playthroughs of Automata really necessary to get the full ending? How different are the campaigns? Is the 9s playthrough a slog from what I hear?
I just finished the demo and loved it.
Seriously, shut the fuck up. Nier Automata does not spoil the story of Nier, you autists. The references to it are all obscure and mostly hidden in the text. You won't have any idea what the fuck they're even talking about unless you've played Nier first. A newcomer to the series is not going to have any idea what the fuck "Gestalt" is, and the game doesn't go out of its way to explain it.
Why are Nierfags so autistic?
The only difference between Replicant and Gestalt is Nier's relationship to Yonah. In Replicant (PS3 version in Japan) you're her older brother. In Gestalt (XBOX 360 version in Japan, the only version that was officially released in the west) you're her father. The script is almost the exact same even if it's a little weird (mostly applies to the romance subtext).
yes
Yoko Taro's games are standalone with only minor references to each other. People who claim that this is one overarching narrative that needs to be played in order all have developmental problems that prevents them from being functional adults. Do NOT listen to Nierfags. They have to wear diapers and get money from the government.
Only Route B is a retread of Route A (the first part of the game), but it's the 9S run and therefore adds content and next to nothing scales despite you keeping your levels so it's a breeze. C and D are their own separate thing, not additional playthroughs. The only reason you would be doing other playthroughs is to get the rest of the joke endings, which you can do without having to restart the game. 9S isn't a slog, people just love to exaggerate, but it is a little harder to be "cool" and a little less fluid than 2B because it's designed around the fact that he's not a.
NieR is far closer to having multiple playthroughs than Automata. People chasing 2B's ass and getting upset when they have to play as 9S are just reactionary and don't know what they're talking about.
>second and third playthroughs
>playthroughs
That's kind of shitty expression to use because it suggest you play through same content again and again which isn't true even for 9S' part.
>People chasing 2B's ass and getting upset when they have to play as 9S are just reactionary and don't know what they're talking about.
Having two weapons you can alternate is way more satisfying that the godawful hacking minigame for 9S
seems like you might be the autist here buddy
>godawful hacking minigame
You shut your filthy whore mouth.
I wasn't talking about his gameplay, I agree that it's worse. I meant that they drop the game the minute 2B is taken away from them and spread the lie that you need to play the game all the way through start to finish multiple times.
Not really but you still should play it
Except it doesn't seem like that at all, autist.
Literally main characters and main villains from the first game show up in Automata and talk about their role in the first game
Do you know what the primary symptom of autism is? The inability to see things from alternate point-of-views. Because you've played Nier, you see spoilers in Nier Automata. Your autism makes you incapable of understanding how someone who hadn't played Nier would interpret the vague allusions in the latter.
I played NieR after Automata, and I didn't really feel spoiled.
However, I'd recommend playing NieR first solely for the fact that Automata will feel like a breath of fresh air with all the QoL/combat improvements and sidequests that aren't grindy dogshit.
retard
>better sidequests
False. I will grant you that the best sidequests from NieR are better than the best ones in Automata. However, the rest of them (i.e. 95% of them) are "Find 5 of this item that has a 0.1% drop rate," whereas almost all of the sidequests in Automata are far less of a pain in the ass to complete.
No but play it first anyway. There are a lot of connections between the two. Also it's great.
>characters from the previous game show up
>vague allusions
>complaining about sidequests in NieR
>when there's like 5 total you have to do for ending D
>characters from previous game show up and make references that can only be understood by people who played that game
>DADDY THE AUTOMATA SPOILS NIER
shut up autist
>Implying you have the luxury to stop.
>Implying any one stops.
>Implying it isn't too late to stop.
>Implying I didn't ram my long, hard Phoenix Spear down her throat the first chance I got
no but you will want to learn more.
>make references that can only be understood by people who played that game
wrong, not my fault you're a brainlet, try again
