I won't argue that Pokemon isn't shit, but the one thing it consistently does great is their female character design.
It's literally one of the few reasons why I'm still playing these games and the generic children anime design of Yokai-Watch is no competition in that regard. It's fairly average. But nothing I haven't seen done better elsewhere.

I should probably be a bit more clear. I like Pokemon as a concept and actually enjoyed X/Y a whole lot, but I couldn't get into Sun/Moon or anything past that. By that point, the gameplay had overstayed its' welcome. I started to realize that things would never change and it would only get more and more sugary and bland to the point of... Well, there being no point. Nothing would ever really challenge me (doubly so because I'm not interested in the cancer that is "competitive" Pokemon). Nothing would ever change.

A brief starter guide for anyone looking to get into Yo-kai Watch:
Start with Yo-kai Watch 2: Psychic Specters. It's the first game if it didn't suck, and includes everything from the Bony/Fleshy versions of 2 with a ton of added story and locations.
Watch the first movie if you want. It's a fun adaptation of YW2:PS, and one of the best game to movie adaptations ever. Next watch the second movie. It's basically mandatory.
Then play Blasters. Download the update from the eShop and start on Moon Rabbit Team, which is just a fancy way of saying it's the updated version. Play with friends, because the AI sucks.
Next play YW3, one of the biggest JRPGs on the 3DS. Seriously, it's massive.
Skip movie 3, it's awful and has no plot. Movie 4, Shadowside, and Movie 5, Forever Friends, which releases on DVD next month, are mandatory as they are canon to YW4.

Honestly I mainly got into Yo-kai Watch because I had a hacked n3DS and just said fuck it and decided to download it, and it's definitely become one of my favorite series. It helps that my senpai likes it a lot, too. I would definitely say to skip 1 though if you're interested, as it gets completely retconned and is frankly just alright, while the sequels improve on it in every way.
If only we could get consistent release schedules. It doesn't help that the series was literally sabotaged when it came to the West.

dont listen to the digmon movie is amazing. I bought it at a goodwill like 5 years ago and I didnt even care about digimon beforehand, but the movie is so much fun I loved it anyways. Yes its made up of 3 movies and the middle one is by far the best, but the first one is cute too and the last one has a nice conclusion. The dub is great, the actors really sound like they are having fun, and the animation looks amazing at parts, especially in the middle when its directed by mamoru hosoda. Do yourself a favor and watch the movie, its campy, choppy, and painfull nineties, but its full of heart and really fun to watch.

Yo-kai definitely has way more love and effort put into it compared to modern pokemon. Too bad most people are closed-minded and refuse to accept another monster-collector and just eat up every half-baked shitshow Game Freak puts out there.
