Hated the music, protagonist, dialogue choices, writing, quest design, everything. Worst part was probably the world and quest design. Just finding random NPCs on a rock in the middle of nowhere telling you to go to a random place and find their necklace/family member. It's all horrible.
The visuals are also really overrated. Yes, the screenshots look good but the game in motion is mediocre looking.

Yeah. When I was playing the game I noticed that literally every male character was either evil, ineffective, or under the direct authority of a superior female officer.
The game's combat is only decent when Aloy is pitched against large creatures, against small creatures and humans it gets boring really quickly. The story is fairly generic as far as stories concerning rogue AI go, and quite frankly, not having any real control over Aloy's personality beyond choosing how strongly she reacts to certain key choices makes me not invested in her very much, especially when you don't have the option to turn off the annoying think she does where she constantly talks to herself to guide the player.

The gameplay's even pretty fun, destroying specific monster parts and laying traps down to trip monsters up, even sending them flying off cliffs, though there's only really a handful of spots where you can do this, and you can't do it with the big big beasts like thunderjaws.
anyway, people forced their own political spergery onto it, or refused to give it a try for whatever reason, and it slipped under most radars that I saw. Nobody was talking about it a week after release, and it dropped to $20 within 3 months.

Forage, looting and leveling up give up almost zero sense of progress in Horizon. It' doesnt matter much, you don't achieve anything actually good.

Nah it is pretty much rated at the exact place it should be. It is a fun game with bland characters, but overall pretty cool lore and really fun world, enemies and combat.

Nah, everything made perfect sense to me. The exposition cutscenes were very obvious in what they were trying to convey. The voice acting was fine even if the dialog direction was terrible so nothing got lost on me.

it has gameplay that is more engaging than most open world games. the humans ai are as bad as most open world games but the monster fighting is always pretty fun

The main story is about Aloy discovering why the robots are going crazy, and the hidden objective is that she wants to find her mom or at least find traces of her. The backstory of the game is scattered around in audio logs and just the environment design. You don't have to listen to any of it.
