With an audio log if you know you're going to die why not keep recording until the last moment? It's not like you're writing in a journal or something.

Audio/text logs in games are an inherently shitty and lazy way by hack devs to exposit information and world build. Video games are a VISUAL medium. SHOW, DON'T TELL.

>Game has journal

The best audio/text diaries are the ones that knows you well enough to fill in the blanks whether it has complementary imagery like for example, a dead body of the doctor and his diary is just casual writings with the last log talks about how he's gonna do some experiments, and shit. You can just fill out what the fuck happen to him esp if you're in a setting that helps you fill in those. If you're in a post apocalyptic game, you can discern he got wrecked by raiders that you just recently killed awhile ago, for example.

That shit.

It works depending on how they're used in context of the world you're in. In a game like an open world crime game, audio logs and shit don't have a place in it.

Games like System Shock, Prey, etc. works well within its setting because of it makes sense, in many ways, even The Elder Scrolls games where you can find the lore and world in the in-game books works really well for the game's atmosphere. But at the same time, there is also the factor of execution and a lot of these games admittedly tend to fall at the problem of spelling EVERYTHING out in their logs (e.g. dead body has a log with "There's someone at the door, I'll go check it out. I love you honey, I'll be home soon.") which is where the stigma exist.

They have their place in the medium especially now that video games can do things with sound and sight, esp with technology in the past couple of decades. I mean, hearing audio logs in System Shock 2 back in 1999 was mind-blowing to me.

What are some games that have actually good audio logs?

Journals and audio logs are so fucking boring and lazy and I have no idea why soifilled pieces of shit are dicksucking them as a great environmental/story telling device. It only works once. It's a necessary alternative to just having a billion cutscenes to give you exposition. Reading mountains of dialogue isn't too preferable, but it works when you can pull it off and space it properly.

Good thing you posted a game that uses the exact form of story telling you call lazy 10 fold more than any other game featuring audiologs.

good thing a game can't do anything right if it does some things wrong

You think you ripping on games with audio logs don't also have scenes like that outside of the logs? Like Bioshock, Dead Space etc?

you think those games can't also do other things well while we critique the things that they do poorly?
