I've always been fascinated with how Dobson comes pretty close to making his comics relatable and funny, but always veers off into a very alienating way that kind of makes you turn on him.
I think he's very similar to someone like Ronnie from Whomp, which I think most of you guys would say is a good webcomic. I found one with a similar premise and I think the thing that makes Dobsons comics so odd is that it never feels like he's inviting you to laugh with him.
Like, Dobson is setting this comic up as "I was a loser in high school" and the punchline is "I will never be friends with people who were mean to me." It's not like there isn't room for this to be funny or relatable, because I'm sure we've all thought about assholes from high school, but you look at this comic and you just feel upset.
I just think it's so odd to see that there are so many comics these days with "relatable" humor about being a hapless dork but Dubson always has to put this off putting vindictive edge to all his stuff... I want to laugh with him.

Whomp stands out from other "I am a loser" webcomics by being more over the top. Ronnie isn't just fat, he is so fat that any shirt he wears turns into an Hawaiian shirt. He is not just bad with women, he is so bad that even a hurricane will refuse to pass through his area. Stuff like this plays with your expectations and feels more like a healthy laugh at yourself than something that makes you feel pity like Dobson and Owlturd.
