Shit game but good party members. Especially my HUSBAND Sylvando.
Shit how? I find it comfy.
The soundtrack makes me want to blow my brains out, and the game drags out WAY too fucking long. 100+ hours of back tracking.
>three (3) Veronica threads up
based
Isn't there mod or something for the PC that changes the soundtrack? It would be amazing if there was one that shuffles in fighting and town themes from multiple dragon quest games.
Blow your brains out
What's Japan's obsession with kids that are actually adults, or 1000's of years old etc?
why do you care?
They have a severe case of good taste
I'm interested
That would have been great if i didn't finish it already. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Serena is better
Explain to me what Dragon Quest does differently to other JRPGs of a similar vein.
differently, nothing
it does what it does well, it's the OG JRPG
Based
Well it's actually good.
It's the most traditional JRPG series probably ever made. It's so basic to it's core it's ridiculous, stereotypical story and enemies etc.
It does nothing differently. It does all the usual shit better. The fact is that there have never been very many mechanically competent JRPGs, the genre is plagued by games that either fail trying to reinvent the wheel or never try to have good gameplay in the first place and sell on story.
can you give examples and contrast them to other JRPGs of similar popularity?
Maybe you two can demonstrate your reasoning as well, I don't want to leap into a completely new franchise only to find out I'm not entirely interested in it.
It's a bit like how you've got all these weird chicken burgers, taco burgers, fish burgers, vegan burgers, spicy burgers, honey burgers, but everybody knows deep down that nothing beats a big fat OG Big Mac.
Because they're too pleb to enjoy the real thing, so they need a "she's 1000" safety blanket, just like Nu-Yea Forums "lolicons"
Oh I'm not knocking it. I genuinely enjoyed the game, it did get a bit repetitive because of the essentially NG++ but overall loved it. Very lighthearted JRPG.
Every single JRPG out there has its roots in Dragon Quest. Every single trope you can think about probably originated in Dragon Quest. Fuck, even Final Fantasy is just one big ripoff of Dragon Quest with edgier graphics and less fun exploration.
Better than doing the real thing though
Is that so? Could you provide an example of what Final Fantasy copied from Dragon Quest? Genuinely curious, as I thought Final Fantasy borrowed more from Dungeons & Dragons.
All your tools are useful so you aren't stuck with a bunch of status effects that are wasted time on encounters and useless on bosses, or buffs you never use because attacking twice is better.
The game flows well with level scaling and encounter rates being tuned to perfection over decades of work.
Difficulty is ideal, you can challenge yourself playing straight and the potential to grind out lets you fine adjust. The games never collapse under their own weight due to experimental exploitable systems accidentally trivializing them.
Just to touch on some common jrpg problems that were dodged.
Thank you for your explanation, that was very helpful. I may involve myself in the franchise after all.
Any recommendations, that are easy to access, and most importantly, """"free""""? I want to dip myself in the shallow water before committing to the deep-end with my money flowing out of my swimmers.
It's consistently good. A lot of people write it off as generic but that's because it's foundational to so much of the JRPG genre. The stories that don't seem original to a modern audience are still done well, and the modern games especially play on that expectation to surprise you.
The core gameplay has hardly changed in 30 years, you can try one of the older games like 3 or 8 and get a pretty good taste of what you'd expect from 11.
Lolibabas are patrician you absolute philistine
Nothing. If you've already played any other games in the genre, then you've probably already seen everything Dragon Quest has to offer. The mechanics, plotlines, settings, and characters are all thoroughly generic and mediocre, as though the developers spent years fine-tuning the games to ensure they were as forgettable as possible.
You people make me sick to my fucking stomach.
It goes something like this: D&D -> DQ -> FF -> Tales/Other
Battle System is based on Dragon Quest's. It's just set up horizontally instead of vertically.
Party members. Dragon Quest 2 and beyond.
Job system from FF3 is literally lifted straight from DQ3. Came out 2 years apart.
The world map of Final Fantasy looks like a romhack of Dragon Quest.
Basically anything cool Final Fantasy did before the late 90s, Dragon Quest had already done, usually better. After that point, they started to become very different from each other as Final Fantasy became more action oriented and Dragon Quest kept polishing that same old formula to a mirror sheen.
this is bakemonegetari or someshit, right? I recently read a few chapters on my shitty MangaRock app on my shitty phone, is it worth watching or consuming other forms of it? I enjoyed the protagonist and his grounded-ness.
leave then
Where would I go though?
It's good. Watch all of it because it's finished now. Read the novels if you want to I guess.
I don't particularly care, just leave
Evidently Facebook
Facebook or Twitter considering your absolutely abhorrent taste.
It's a good series but I really hate Araragi as a character. He's very, very stupid when the plot wants to slow down, and he's fucking Sherlock Holmes when the plot needs to move forward. Very inconsistent character, and not in the good way. Watch it for the supporting cast. He's also a gigantic self-insert Mary Sue.
I guess the manga I was reading portrayed him wrong or something, then. I really liked how he behaved and his relationships with the other girls were, though definitely lewd, was still platonic, and he intended it to keep it that way.
>*Blaring horns*
Like the ones from MLG montages?
It gets much worse after the original series because the producers realized the marketing potential in a half-vampire with a huge "platonic" harem of gorgeous girls. There's an entire fucking arc where Araragi forgets a huge chunk of his childhood for the sake of introducing a character who supposedly has a big connection to him, and he only remembers (in perfect, vivid detail) after she gets a big dramatic introduction. It plays out like a soap opera. Bakemonogatari was good because of the lack of characterization in Araragi, and all future parts suffer from his lack of consistency. Everything involving him feels forced.
The overworld theme is good, and I enjoyed listening to it the whole time. I missed the theme when I got to act 3 and the DQIII theme was playing instead.
Same
That pee stain is super gross
It's extremely good in every form. The writing carries the series (which makes sense, since it's originally novels) but both the anime and manga do an excellent job presenting the story through their wild art/animation.
The anime started in 2009 and just finished with the "main series" of novels (which finished in 2014 but extra stories are still being published), the manga just started last year and is more in-depth (keeping more content and dialogue that the anime cut) and even takes some liberties with the story so it's a fresh experience, but the downside is that it's going to take a long time to catch up even as a weekly manga (half of a light novel -> at most three episodes of anime -> over a dozen chapters of manga).
The novels are being officially translated and published in English by Vertical, and they're doing a pretty good job. They'll probably be finished with the "main series" by the end of next year. If you really enjoy the anime or manga I'd recommend checking them out.
Araragi is a great MC, most of the people who don't like him are mad that he didn't pick the girl they wanted or take issue with his antics.
Even then there's several stories where other characters are the MC and they're almost all as good or even better.
The other arcs where other characters become the MC are unironically great but good job trying to deflect valid criticism of the one thinng that actually fucks with the quality of the series, no criticism allowed of glorious waifu anime.
I was fine with the music for the first few hours. Then it really started to annoy me for a while. I think at around 10-15 hours, I actually grew to really like it again. Maybe it's just some weird Stockholm Syndrome shit.
Movie download when?
So, which is it? I'm getting mixed signals here.
On one hand Araragi is a cool guy and the other is telling me he's on the spectrum.
Never
No one's interested in the duck enough to care
is there still that cockney accent bullshit that has plagued every DQ game for the last 20 years
Why do I keep seeing her shake her butt everywhere?
apparently a thing she does often
also she's a loli and is thus cute and funny
do you see where this going
Hell yeah, it's back in force. Also scottish and spanish accents too. I'm surprised they didn't make the arborea sisters aggressively Russian desu.
Do they have japanese language packs or is this the kind of game where english is the original?
Try IV on the mobile phone or V on the ds.
Her outfit is terrible. The girl is pretty cute though.
I'm just saying "Araragi is bad" isn't really a popular opinion outside of the "hurr Crab a shit why didn't he fuck Cat/Bat/Monkey/whatever" crowd or the tumblr "fans" who think he's icky for clowning around in obvious fanservice/comedy scenes.
I get your reasoning, the stuff with Sodachi definitely could have been foreshadowed more but there were hints that SOMETHING fucked up his adolescence big time at least all the way back in Kizu.
He's a cool guy, he just has some personal issues to recognize and work on improving. If you liked him for being "grounded" you'll probably stay liking him, even though he's definitely a goofball a lot too.
The true Japanese DQ experience involves turning off any and all voice acting.
Should I start with Dragon Quest III?
start with 1, then play 3
this screenshot is out of context young man
Thanks, user, for your informed and structured opinion. I will consider delving further into Bakemonegatari or whatever.
Guys, guys.
Do you think Act 3 should have happened? Do you regret playing through Act 3?
Personally I liked the entire game, but I didn't really care for much of the endgame content no matter how expansive it was. I couldn't get over how pointless it made the rest of the game feel.
>tfw playing DQ4
Fucking hell this sucks and these fucking eastern eu/ russian accents make me want to fucking off somebody and the game is very barebones its not bad at all but why the fuck would you play a DQ game if you played one already? I didn't want to be a modern entry pleb but 4 is the end of the line for me i'm not sure what the plan was making an intro of a game 10+ hours but I don't see the vision they were going for.
I don't think it should have happened, but I don't regret playing through it.
she eighteen
I started playing DQIX. I've been playing for almost 15 hours and I've only just reached Zere Rocks. I'm dreading spending 400 trying to 100% this.
Does stealing ever become useful? I swear I've tried a hundred times and it's only worked once. I know it's based on a stat but at these levels it doesn't want to work.
>trying to 100% DQIX
>dreading spending only 400 hours
You're looking at something more along the lines of 700 or 800, and you're crazy for even trying.
>Does stealing ever become useful
Hell no. It can be somewhat kinda helpful when you're trying to get specific crafting reagents that only drop from very specific mobs (like the mummy bandages). Even then it only works in the grinding scale - if you try to steal from a mummy as the first thing you do every time you fight it and then kill it right away (since you'll outlevel them very quickly) maybe you'll get 1 or 2 extra from each 20 you kill. Maybe.
Also you need stealing for a particular secondary quest which is notoriously rng based, as is the case with most of DQ9's side quests. It's really not the best entry point. If you ignore all the bullshit side quests and just play the main story while having fun with the class system then it's decent, but trying to 100% it is a path to insanity.
This
Meh I've did it in around 200 hours
Legal loli
That seems impossible without some sort of RNG manipulation to make everything drop 100% of the time.
The composer is a nazi.
Will XI S have Japanese voices?
They like the appearance, but hate their personalities.
>The music is bad because because the composer is allegedly a bad perso
Based small brain.
Yes.
>he can't separate the art from the artist
baka
Is there a boogie webm for each of the party members? They are all great
t.angry reseterafag
yes
It has absolutely terrible music, whereas literally all other JRPGs have good to excellent music.
Just use the always drop/100% steal cheat.
What’s up with all the Veronicaposting lately? Is it the DQ Protag for Smash announcement? I bought DQXI at launch and I’ve never seen this level of posting about best girl
Imagine having such terrible taste that you attempt to defend the music in DQXI. It's on the same level as Crazy Bus.
Based. Holding out was the right decision after all
Technically yes
-XI Hero (Heroes) is announced in Smash
-More DQ discussion as a result (like Banjo)
-More discussion about XI Hero's game
-More discussion about girls in XI
-More discussion about best girl in XI
I am a biased as fuck Veronicafag, so I liked it a lot. That being said, it did retcon some amazing character growth, so I won’t deny that
there's an orchestra patch tho
J...Jadebros?
*Martinabros
>Japanese voices
>can marry Martina
Sex with Veronica!
Boring generic thot, Gemma is much better. Whoever chooses j*de in the switch version is a philistine.
seethe harder
Why can't I marry anyone other than Gemma?
Because she is the best girl and any other choice is objectively wrong.
The only problem with the original soundtrack is that the overworld and battle themes don't change in Act 2.
DQVIII babby's and their "muh orchestra" nonsense need to fuck off. Its okay for a game to try a different style from the norm. There was no spite in the composer's decision. There was no scheme to "trick people into paying for concert tickets". He just wanted to use the nostalgic style in a game series that's supposed to make you feel nostalgic.
That's what XI S is for
It absolutely should have happened. World of Ruin has been done before in mainstream JRPGs; but undoing it is something unique that, at the very least, I haven't seen done before.
Also the original name of the game "In Search of the Lost Time" comes directly from that chapter. They had it in mind from the start and the story is incomplete without it.
*blocks your path*
You can though, if you have a Switch.
Someone post the webm or gif of Erik dancing
>Wish to marry her
>She just replaces your mother
The time travel severely pissed me off. You basically leave behind your entire party that you regained after the tree fell and the MC never explains it to his party in the new timeline
I hated it.
Damn, I can't even find it on my private tracker
stop being autistic you retard
oh no, cant have that
Fuck you
Monogatari is great
is it really shit if you enjoyed it in some way?

Boku no Pico
thanks user, I'll check it out right away
you trying to kill this thread, fag?
>inb4 cute and funny or outright just cunny posting
right bastard you are
It was about sacrificing something important for a chance at something greater. Everyone agreed it was the right thing to do and were willing to give up the people they had become and the bittersweet happiness they had earned to prevent the tragedy that made them that way.
>Inb4 muh multiverse/alternate timeline
The game never states that you're going to a different timeline. Time travel is a fictional concept and has no universal rules.
What’s with all the rumors about PC and PS4 getting all the new content via DLC? I’d love to believe it’s true.
>monogatari has 3 lolis excluding past-hanekawa
>one of them is a vampire (Undead)
>one of them is a ghost
>one of them is a corpse
Necrloliphilia
I hated that Serena/Veronica took up 2 slots again instead of just one. Why couldn't the Luminary or the powers that be make Serena able to cast Veronica spells and Veronica able to cast Serena spells.
Serana was always the better girl Veronicafags
>Everyone agreed it was the right thing to do
I didn't, user.
I didn't
Besides, did it really help in the end?
The tree falling causes a massive shitstorm and many people died. But the events after the travel are clearly worse as the Ancient Evil awakens & the monsters grow stronger than they did after the tree fell.
Wrong. Veronica best girl.
You're underestimating the sheer amount of people who died in Act 2. It wasn't just Veronica, who was killed off in part to make the player feel the same sense of loss that the rest of the world was experiencing. Your party prevents most actual catastrophe in act 3, even is shit is worse in some ways.
user please allow me to indulge..
durrrty stank panties

Indulge in what?
>that pee stain
MUH
The unspeakable acts behind the closed doors of my bedroom. The ones that, after committing, should render me unable to look my family and friends in the eyes.
But I will. Time and time again, I'll look at them knowing full well what I've done & what I'll keep doing. And they're none the wiser about my true identity
Good lord, what the fuck is up with this franchise? Will it ever get a good soundtrack?
enjoying pictures of cute girls?
or just masturbation?
nothing to be ashamed of at any rate
Wrong, loli juices are tasty
Gotta wait for the senile ol boomer composer to die.
Can we go back to talking about DQ now?
Oh, cool it
I'm not ashamed
Still gonna need that source though
can you link the other two I only have this and one other.
>“While it isn’t marriage, you can even choose Erik or Hendrik—so you can choose the person you live with.”
LADS
>I'm not ashamed
what you described is very similar to the behaviour of a person who feels shame
>can't choose Queen Marina
Dropped
See
fuck you nigger
To hell.
Don't worry, what you do in your alone time is nothing to be ashamed of, and is perfectly natural for you to do.
Unless it's some REALLY fucked up shit like guro or scat, then you need to seek help.
Or NTR
What about Ryona and reverse NTR?
No. Welcome to DQ threads post Smash.
>feeling pleasure from the suffering of others, sexually
>feeling pleasure from being cucked or your significant other being cucked
atheist, but go find yourself a jesus
>from being cucked or your significant other being cucked
Absolutely not, it's the exact opposite
what does reverse-NTR mean to you, if you mind me asking
Not being the person who gets cucked, but
Being the person who cucks
okay then let me rewrite my statement
>feeling pleasure from the suffering of others, sexually
oh well goddamn it seems like it's a copy-paste
hurting others is not okay
/ourguy/
L-lewd
It has some of the best math you'll ever see in a video game. People really don't appreciate the artistry of well balanced values for actions in games. Dragon Quest's calculations are so perfectly tuned that it doesn't even feel like numbers at times.
I weep for the people who will never understand the bliss of a perfectly oiled machine.
This, Jesus.
doubt
the japanese are by far the worst programmers
largely thanks to microsoft
wut
microsoft killed their personal computing industry with IP trolling, which killed their cultural perception of desktop computing and thus their programming ability
This shit has been amazingly balanced since the fucking NES when devs were programming their games on motherfucking calculators. Don't you bullshit me boy. Try it.
after all this time, I still don't know this artist or where the fuck to find his work
though I never bothered to look and don't constantly scour the internet looking for lewd images
it would be nice to know, however
programming games on calculators designed for making games is unironically easier than programming games on today's computers
Get the Gamboy Color ROM of Dragon Quest 3 and emulate that with VisualBoyAdvance.
If you want significantly better visuals and sound, get the Super Famicom ROM for DQ3 and slap on the English fan patch. You can emulate with SNES9x or whatever SNES emulator you want.
In recent times, ROMs have become a bit harder to come by, but it's not impossible yet.
I recall some frenchy site or what-have-you that still distributes ROMs, can't remember the name for the life of me, though

Point is that it's not some new thing, this math has been solid for decades.

Act 3 overworld theme is the best overworld theme since it,s coming from the best DQ game.

What was the deal with that supposedly leaked PS4 version of the enhanced edition? I'll buy the game on the Switch if I need to but it would be so much better if the PC got the enhanced one too for the graphics alone.
I didn't finish 3rd Act, I just couldn't finish the Trials of the Luminary because even on normie difficulty I'm too dumb to know how to conserve my party members MP during long dungeons.
