In 2 you are part of a squad so there's always radio contact with someone, and the levels are not as dark. It's more an action game than the pseudo-survival horror 1 is, but it's still good. You should play it.

These games defined my fucking childhood. I still have them installed and play them every few years, they're just as fun.

It is a shame we won't get another AVP game like this again, AVP 2010 was alright but it never got the same feeling as the first two, but still.

Also, I remember fondly going out of my way to save as many allies as I could in these games, it's genuinely fun; although there's not many opportunities to do so.

Why is everyone bringing this game up recently? I really like this game in m childhood and replay a half of it recently, each campaign is shorter than I remember but they are enjoyable no less. I missed the multiplayer scene though since internet sucks back in the days and privacy.

I hope GOG could release a remaster version of it, or remake the game in modern graphics.

You do know as a Predator in BOTH original games, if you hold Right Mouse, and release it aiming at the head of a dead foe, you'll collect it's skull and have a triumphant roar. In the 2nd game they even added a talley of how many skulls you collected.

I can't speak about AvP 1 but in AvP 2 any melee attack that chops of head will collect it. Same with picking heads pinned to wall by spear gun.

I liked the first movie, and the comics.

In AVP 1 you can collect the skulls but you have the manually do it after they die, and you must use the Wrist Blades. I think it was more of a gimmick than anything in the first game.

Also if you haven't, you should check out the Redux mod for the original AVP game, adds so much.

I remember in the first game playing as a marine in LAN, played on some downloaded map with a long, slightly bent corridor. I heard a noise like a fan getting louder and louder and wondered what the fuck it was, there was no fan on the level near me, suddenly the camera drops down and I see blood flying everywhere. Good times.

The way the first game handled blood splatter and limb-detachment is more advanced than what most games do today even. Blood shot out in "drops" that stained the environment where they landed, every hit made a hit-decal where it landed on a model, and every limb could be cut off at several points.

Loved that map. I remember me and my marine peeps getting wrecked by the predator until we figured out a winning tactic, move around the perimeter and have one guy with a minigun constantly scanning, one guy with a grenade launcher constantly bombing the perimeter to flush out anything that tries to hide in front, and then just circle round the map doing supply runs into the compound as necessary. Owned that fucking predator after that

Not really. Body destruction was much worse (instead of the detailed blood splatters, hit decals and amputations of the first one you now had pretty much nothing), and the graphics were much more cartoony. Still a good game, and probably more fun in multiplayer due to having much more content, but I really miss some aspects of the first one in it.

Is there a resolution upscale patch? 1280x720 is a little small, but i can get used to it; I was used to it back when the game first came out, I can work with it again.

This was my shit when I was 13. It was my first MP focused PC game. Servers could be real chill and the community wasn't insanely huge but big enough that it was easy to find games. I even met my first rl gf on there, good times.

ss13 aliums are lame and no other video games have come close to how good Xenos played in AvP 1/2. I remember being hyped for Natural Selection 2, but then they revealed wall running was automatic and didn't flip your camera around, felt like shit in comparison when the game came out.
