>With Smash Ultimate being such a gargantuan game for the series creator, Masahiro Sakurai, to work on, he says in an interview with Famitsu magazine (translated by Source Gaming) that for the next entry in the series “the number of fighters is likely to decrease.”
I have constructed the core roster of smash who are extremely unlikely to get cut (little mac debatable). These include the original 12, origin points for their series plus their rivals, or massively popular characters. No third party is safe.
Wolf's been kicked before, wouldn't be surprised if it happened again
Justin Bell
kicked because he was a rushed amalgamation in brawl, this isn't the case anymore
Ryan Cruz
Shulk likely wouldn't return over Little Mac. Mac is iconic still, Shulk is niche from a dead series
Benjamin Jenkins
xenoblade has a new game in development
Brody Fisher
>people believe anything Sakurai says >after he said every game since Brawl would be his last >after he said “please don’t expect too many new characters” with Ridley yet brought the roster to over six dozen characters The man’s playing the long con, and you keep falling for it. I could see him cutting third parties and MAYBE the occasional shill pick like Corrin, but he’s not going to be trimming that much of the roster away.
Robert Walker
>next smash game gets brand new characters >these characters will never be in a complete roster like ultimate's Just end the series here
>please don’t expect too many new characters there were less new characters in ultimate than any smash game
William Cruz
Keep D. Samus and Daisy as skins, full pokemon trainer why would he be cut lol also >No Mewtwo >No Wii Fit >No Da Cunt Because yeah let's remove fighters that already have well established movesets for the sake of being more "compact" Fucking genius
Xenoblade Chronicles has had three games released since 2010, with a fourth confirmed to be in development. Each game has also continued to sell better than the previous installment. Xenoblade is certainly not dead. Little Mac still deserves to stay as well due to his strong legacy, but Punch-Out!! is more of a “dead” series since it hasn’t had a new game in around a decade.
Jaxon Myers
There are 17 with the DLC, which is 1 less than Brawl and 3 more than Melee's. It's not as low as you fags think.
Why even make a new game after Ultimate? Just keep adding to the roster and maps of Ultimate. I don't see the point in creating yet another Smash game from the ground up, at least for not another 15 years.
Julian Martinez
>why even make a new game after ultimate money and the switch will be outdated hardware come November 2020
Blake Murphy
Can’t Nintendo just port the game to their next console and add a few more characters?
Samuel Watson
Add Diddy and Mewtwo. I can't imagine K. Rool without Diddy being a thing, and Mewtwo's only skipped Brawl, and even then, apparently he was supposed to return. I'd argue Falco and Ike are probably a lock too.
Carson Roberts
Honestly this. We have no idea how long the Switch's lifespan will be, and in theory it could drag on forever like the DS and 3DS. Why make a new game when you knowingly made a definitive one? How about a second series of DLC characters?
Juan Martin
>Ultimate Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Turbo Hyper Fighting Edition A strange move, but I can't say I'd be against it.
Easton Williams
>implying they're not just going to port and update ultimate forever
Justin Cox
...
Bentley Parker
there was already a ton of compromise made with porting smash 4 stuff into ultimate
diddy isn't on the level of luigi/peach/zelda/charizard as a secondary. Mewtwo is possible and I debated adding him, but I think it could jump between him or lucario
Lucas Gutierrez
It can easily be ported. All of Nintendo's tech since the Wii and arguably the Gamecube has been easily translated to the "newer" consoles.
Street Fighter 4 did this, and I can see Smash Ultimate making a lot of money following the same formula.
Asher Perez
>sheik >untouchable shiek should have been changed to impa two games ago
>removing charizard
Easton Cox
make the next console backwards compatible and patch in better graphics
Brandon Scott
*actually, I'd also add Metaknight too. And, going a little farther, I'd imagine they'd keep Toon Link. The Toon design's been used for a good few games at this point, so it's not like he's totally irrelevant.
Christopher Gonzalez
>there was already a ton of compromise made with porting smash 4 stuff into ultimate no there wasn't. the problem is that sm4sh is a fundamentally different game in many, many ways and they reused what assets they could from it. if ssbu gets ported with more characters it won't be anything like as much work creating a new game with new gameplay, different engine etc but reusing assets
Luke Peterson
Characters from your list that could get cut: >Ganondorf >Pit >Wario >King Dedede >Olimar >Wolf >Little Mac >Shulk >Ridley >K. Rool
Jaxson Jones
Honestly I hope this is the case. What could they really do at this point to outdo ultimate? I hope it's like 5+ years til we see another Smash so they have more tech to rebuild the game from the ground up in a big way.
Andrew Collins
>Sakurai decides fuck it, and just has Ultimate ported to future consoles >from now on, there'll be fighter passes after the first one, with 1 fighter pass per year to add 5 newcomers, 5 stages, spirits and music >while also updating with new modes and shit >rosterfagging intensifies for the next 2 to 3 decades before the roster reaches Tobal #2 sizes of HUEG-ness and nothing can ever top it
Matthew Long
Move Ike to least likely as he is now confimed to be the most popular character in the Fire Emblem series. Move Joker to 50/50 as Atlus seems to be very willing to work with Sakurai.
People would literally stick with Ultimate. As long as Ridley and Rool stay I'm gonna buy it but I can see it being a hard sale to some folks. I guess on the bright side if Ridley stayed and Palutena got cut I wouldn't have to fight that bitch. Yes I know "git gud" yada yada. She's such a goddamn pain to deal with and everything she can do is amazing and hard to punish. I just hate fighting her period.
Evan Jenkins
I would say Marth is 100% untouchable as well, and Pit and Wario are very close to that status, with Sonic being 50/50. Otherwise, wholeheartedly agree with the list.
Sebastian Robinson
>dead series
The last XC game was released 18 months ago and has currently sold 1.7 Million copies.
>non-iconic, historically irrelevant >has jack shit to do with nintendo every other third party has one or two of the above. Joker is the first to get cut
Joker is probably the weakest rep for SMT/Persona, but that franchise deserves a rep none the less.
Lincoln Cook
nice irrelevant spin off no one cares about, like Q2
that's like saying vaultboy would get in over doomguy
Connor Kelly
SMT would be fine since it's historically relevant to nintendo. persona is not. No, joker doesn't represent SMT. I mean, lets assume he does. He's still the lowest of the third parties except for maybe simon/richter, and that's a big maybe
Nathaniel Sanchez
Persona technically is just an off-shoot of SMT and falls within the same universe and franchise, especially in Japan.
Benjamin Miller
>"It has jack shit to do with Nintendo" >Post a game starring Joker on a Nintendo system >"N-No that doesn't count!" Cope.
Jackson Howard
joker is still the first third party on the chopping block taking that into consideration
Jace Martin
No it's not the same thing, as despite what SMTfags will tell you, Joker is both the most profitable and most popular Atlus Protagonist.
Carter Davis
>joker is the first third party character on the chopping block I kinda agree if we're not counting the echoes Richter and Ken. Bayonetta is close to Joker but the fact her games are published by Nintendo now makes it less likely for her to be cut, plus I guess she does have some pretty unique mechanics. Joker can easily be cut since he's only the protagonist of one recent game (no I am not counting PQ2 because no one cares about it) and comes from a series with a lot of viable characters. people will likely forget about him if he gets no more appearances in his series. the other 3rd parties are mostly huge gaming icons who deserve a spot
you can feel free to try and prove me wrong, joker is the least worthwhile third party in the game
Kayden Evans
Nope, that falls with Bayonetta. She's apart of a new franchise that really no one gives a fuck about yet, although it's a good series. SMT/Persona is pretty much a staple franchise for Japanese fans. But I agree Joker is the worst rep for it.
Jose Reed
What if Joker's cut, but instead it's because they're using the P6 protag instead?
Dylan Carter
>cloud has NO chance of returning IT'S NOT FAIR HE'S THE ONLY FUN SWORD
Wyatt Hughes
Make it like melee and it'll be perfect
Zachary Williams
I'm not going to try to tell you what to think. I'm just going to tell you that he's not going anywhere.
Jacob Murphy
I dunno, I'd argue Diddy is about peach-tier in terms of secondaries. He's in pretty much every DK game, and he's in a good chunk of the spin-offs. Looking back, it's actually kinda surprising he wasn't in Melee even.
Sorry dude, Sakurai loves Xenoblade, expect Rex to show up in the next game aswell, if Sakurai is still at the helm by then that is.
Nathaniel Gonzalez
diddy isn't even close to peach-tier. At best he's close to zelda and that's pushing it a lot
I stopped playing ultimate months ago but I enjoy theory crafting
Anthony Butler
That's implying that Persona 6 will actually release before the next Smash.
Atlus and Sega will spend YEARS milking the P5 train like they did with P3/P4, and then Persona 6 will inevitably spend forever in development hell before it finally comes out.
Sebastian Taylor
>Move Joker to 50/50 Let's be honest, by tbe time P6 comes out Joker will become literal who for most normalfags and "fans" of P5. They will move on to the new cast and waifus.
Thomas Perez
>Untouchable Sheik drops down to 50:50. The original 3 tri-force wielders are adequate. >Least Likely Inkling moved up to untouchable due to extreme Splatoon popularity. King K Rool dropped down to 50:50 or lower unless Nintendo applies his added popularity from Smash into him being a villain in the main Donkey Kong titles. This seems unlikely. >50:50 Rosalina bumped into Least Likely. Incenaroar, Dark Pit, MegaMan, Belmonts, and Pac-Man bumped down to Most Likely >Most likely Piranha Plant bumped to Least Likely category due to time investment creating its unique moveset in Ultimate and Nintendo's plans of increasing Mario character presence. Wii Fit Trainer and Bayonetta bumped to 50:50. The former is useful for QoL stuff, the latter for maintaining good relations with P*.
Mason Mitchell
There's no argument I can provide to convince you otherwise, as you're so brickheadedly set on the fact that he won't be in the next game, so all I can do is wait for the next game to prove you wrong.
Alexander Edwards
Well, if that's the case, why would K. Rool return but not Diddy? I love K. Rool, but I don't see how he'd return but not Diddy. What gives him an edge over the other?
Gavin Torres
how about trying to give something objective that goes against "joker being the least important third party" instead of trying to sway my opinion
Grayson Cox
assuming the next game is brand new and cuts people. we can also assume that the new game is underway already. 2024/5 would be the time frame. Joker is a good bet to be cut. >non nintendo character >not iconic >wont get new games down the line. SMT/persona games yes but Joker wont be a big part. he would not bring in sales by that point.
Solid Snake is another one that would be on the chopping block. Konami does not seem to want to do anything of worth with metal gear. while he is iconic he will fade in to the background.
Caleb Howard
Uhh user. Mechanics and gameplay are attached to characters. The mechanics and gameplay that I like in smash literally wouldn't exist.
I don't play smash but what the fuck is the point of it, if you're just gonna have the same characters every time? shouldnt they just mix it and only have some iconic and varied roster? or are they literally going to add only flavor of the year characters like Joker from now on?
Nathan Roberts
Even if Nintendo were to release a new Smash game, I don't see many players leaving Ultimate to play it. Kind of like how there are Melee purists.
Ryan Lewis
joker was thankfully an exception, additions to smash are pretty good
Dylan Turner
>the next console's smash is an upgraded Ultimate You know what, if they at least make a new theme/layout and add a good chunk of content, I'd be down. I'd love it if they could upgrade Bomberman to a character too
It's time to let Jigglypuff go >BUT MUH ORIGUNAL 12 Jigglypuff was going to be cut in Brawl, but faggot Sonic saved her ass
Michael Williams
>With Smash Ultimate being such a gargantuan game for the series creator, Masahiro Sakurai, to work on, he says in an interview with Famitsu magazine (translated by Source Gaming) that for the next entry in the series “the number of fighters is likely to decrease.”
Matthew Fisher
Well, no shit.
Having everyone more than once takes away the charm of having everyone.
>People are against 3rd Party characters from series that change out the cast. >But people are okay with Cloud, who hasn't appeared in any FF games that aren't FF7 related or spinoffs and otherwise. What's with the insincerity? What if one or of the last two DLC characters come from 3rd Party series with rotating casts? Like what if fucking Ezio or whoever made it into Smash? Would they be derided because they're from a series that rotates the cast?
Chase Ortiz
I keep hearing this but could never find a source, pretty sure it's horseshit if iwata was willing to greenlight smash 4 without sakurai even knowing
Nolan Rivera
>what is pressure from your bosses >really thinks Smash is gonna get to MUGEN tier roasters
Colton Watson
cloud is an icon, he's the face of the jRPG genre
Jacob Phillips
This thread is fucking trash and I don't even know why I clicked on it.
Shulk needs to go. Already irrelevant and even more so by the time Smash 6 rolls around
Gabriel Watson
Do you really want them to just keep adding on characters but never really improve or rework anything else about the game?
Ian Martinez
thanks for confirming you're pulling shit out of your ass
shulk is the marth of the series, he's not going anywhere
Christopher Lee
FF7 is one of the biggest games of all time mate
Nicholas Thompson
>Xenoblade's Marth
Chase Nguyen
I dunno. Didn't the newer Xeno games sell pretty well? I'm wondering if he'll just get switched out for a newer protag or something.
Adrian Roberts
Roy Doctor Mario Pichu Young Link Jigglypuff Plant Incineroar Chrom Dark Pit
There I made space for lots of newcomers.
Easton Cook
Cloud has showed up in multiple games over the years. he is iconic to video gaming. his game kick started the 3d RPGs and many weebs in the west.
Joker is a literal who from a franchise that is very small over all. its like dragon quest. super generic and will always have a new game with a new cast. none of the old cast sticks with the community besides the waifus.
Lincoln Scott
And you're against characters that aren't as well known being part of Smash? When the game already has a bunch?
I don't deny that.
Cooper Nelson
series firsts never get replaced, the closest was ness about to be for lucas but that didn't happen
Jeremiah Cooper
when it comes to third parties, they should either be iconic, related to nintendo historically, or both. First parties can be anything
Luke James
Just because the cutfag is soccerguy doesn't make it any less retarded. You have literally the best roster in fighting game history all lovingly rendered and animated. The advancements in graphics the next generation could make aren't worth redoing everything from scratch. There is no gameplay improvements that could be made that would be worth cutting the fuck out of the roster because you can already play melee if you want that. There is no reason to toss everything in the trash. It's just a bad idea. The correct path from ultimate is by porting and building upon it. Under a new director while Sakurai takes a well deserved break. You could then have a game with a roster better than ultimate, a story mode better than subspace, mechanics more fun competitively than they are in melee and as fun for casual gameplay as smash always has been.
Austin Peterson
you have to think as someone who wants to sell as much as possible. you have a huge roaster to pick from but only 30 slots to pick. people will expect some new comers and the Nintendo standards. that would be over half the roaster. from there it is a choice on who would draw people in. in 5-6 years will Joker be a character that will draw a large amount of people in?
Nicholas Flores
>There is no gameplay improvements that could be made that would be worth cutting the fuck out of the roster how would you know that? The fact you bring up melee right after proves there can be
Jaxson Wright
Keyword worth.
Adam Turner
again, how would you know that? Ultimate already has the novelty of having a fuck huge roster
Jose Martin
Reminder that no one actually likes Impa and people want her for the sake of having a new Zelda rep
Sheik is pretty much a lesser Captain Falcon in that she's a Smash character more than a Zelda one nowadays. She's a damn fine choice too
Camden Bailey
no one really likes shiek either, she's just there. Impa is at least more prevalent in the series
Charles Morgan
That's why you port it so you get the gameplay improvements in addition to the fuckhueg roster. In fact you'll have more time for gameplay improvements.
Jason Rogers
Sheik had a cool twist to her, Impa was never more than a walking exposition dump
Also Sheik is in Smash Brothers while Impa isn't. That's telling
Parker Perez
the most basic reason? because they would have to keep paying the licensees for all of the content they dont own. on top of that sales would drop off real fast and back lash would grow. >lazy fucking nintendo porting the same switch game for decades! >oh man cant wait for Super Smash Bros: Super Ultimate World Championship R# relord core+ Max Climax
Jayden Turner
>Sheik is in Smash Brothers while Impa isn't due to a transformation of zelda that no longer exists
impa had a twist to her too in SS
>impa was never more than a walking exposition dump that's exactly what shiek is. Actually impa actually does shit in some of the zelda games
>we will never get Hyrule warriors Impa and Ganondorf in these games
Jacob Fisher
Based Cringe
Robert Williams
I feel like the next Smash is fucked regardless then. A smash game with good core gameplay and no characters that I like to play already exists and I already don't play it.
Tyler Wilson
jigglypuff over mewtwo? No falco? No isabelle? Add minmin/spring man and Rex+Pyra and you are pretty close tho.
Also, Greninja is quite safe, he is massively popular.
yes they are damned if they do, damned if they dont.
they can keep trying to farm the same game for decades. turning it in to a live service. nintendo might be able to pull it off but does it sound like something you want in reality?
or they can cut back with a new game that changes and adds things. making a game that is reasonable to produce and maintain for a while.
Ryan Moore
springman is a maybe if arms gets more games. I don't see rex/pyra being core. Isabelle is not a mainstay because villager exists, jigglypuff is original 12 and lucario could very well be chosen over mewtwo
>With Smash Ultimate being such a gargantuan game for the series creator, Masahiro Sakurai, to work on, he says in an interview with Famitsu magazine (translated by Source Gaming) that for the next entry in the series “the number of fighters is likely to decrease.”
Adrian Hill
Anyone who is owned directly by Nintendo has no reason to get cut. Ridley and K.Rool are in and they should be in forever, same with Wolf and Mewtwo and all the other characters that got cut once, there is literally no reason to not have these characters in unless you go full jew mode and make them DLC.
The only characters that are excusable to cut in the foreseeable future are pic related, including Banjo. If they belong to Nintendo and no hoops have to be jumped through to keep them, they stay in, no ifs ands or buts.
>Letting sakurai make another smash game cough cough cough hack
Ryder Scott
>Corrin stays in Fucking cursed timeline
Oliver Gonzalez
Mentally preparing mysefl already. Honestly though, Ultimate's roster is bloated with charcters that barely qualify as Nintendo allstars, let alone gaming icons. >Roy and Chrom >Jigglypuff >Pichu >Greninja
Give me a valid reason why any of these should stay.
For the next Smash they will either have to really retool the gameplay and/or change up movesets entirely, or go all in on an adventure story mode in addition to a bunch of other game mode shit.
It's going to be really, REALLY had to top ultimate.
Kayden Brooks
Corrin is fun.
Jonathan Johnson
You can replace them with other fun characters that are more deserving and less cringy. Did you play her game or FE Warriors?
Evan White
ultimate only has the roster to prop itself up. The gameplay mechanics are decent too but not on the level of melee. Everything else is a dumpster fire from single player to online
Jose Perry
I forgot him. To be fair he's at least more distinct both moveset and personality wise, even if his design is worse. I wouldn't mind cutting both but then Smash's Pokemon reps are almost all Kanto.
Logan Cook
lucario and stay and whatever other shillmon they add
Noah Morris
>another new shillmon I'd rather have them add something from gen 3 or 5 that proved lasting popularity instead of picking furbait before the game is released and crossing their fingers it ends up popular.
Zachary Thomas
This. Also fix some characters. Fix Samus. Make Ike fast like in his games and give him his shockwave. Reskin Luigi's moveset into a full LM3 arsenal. Keep on making Ganondorf a bit more unique every time. Link should be fully akin to his BOTW appearance instead of the half-measure we got. Etc
And bring back trophies
Kayden Morgan
samus is fine in ultimate
Michael Torres
Here are your potential newcomers based on shill picks, upgrades, and possible dlc.
Corrin has been my shit since the first bits about fates were coming from japan. l like the character so much that I'm largely basing the main antagonist of the project I'm working on right now on him (obviously with an in-story awareness of how people feel about the character and lots of adjustments to make him genuinely appealing and fun to most people.)
The reason that I can get so attached to a character that has been treated so horribly by (meta) circumstances is because I'm someone who cares more about ideas than reality and retarded shit in stories never really bugs me. In this way I am looking at the character entirely for what they are, which is a naive, polite and sort of awkward armored giraffe-dragon water jesus with a chainsaw sword, lances and jaws for hands and a tard rage mode that's defined by neutrality and oscillation of fate. Plus antlered helmets and cute barefoot girls are my fetish. From this perspective, there is literally not a single character in smash that can compare or a single character in fiction that could replace him.
Even though the gameplay is also my favorite in smash for reasons I can't get into cause I gotta get up early to hit the beach tomorrow, if it makes you happy I'd be fine with him being attached to another character dragon quest style as long as he's still playable in the game.
Jeremiah Nelson
cut wolf for Ike and then your list doesnt look that unrealistic
Jace Bennett
>Sakurai himself says cuts will probably have to happen >Anti-cutfags lose their shit Sorry fag, but cuts are almost guaranteed if only for logistical reasons. People have been telling you this for ages but you just won't listen; a roster this massive isn't sustainable.
Robert Hernandez
>Green = Give a more unique moveset or cut >Blue = turn into an alt >Red = Cut thoughts?
I like peach having 8 more costumes. You can merge echo characters inyo the screen, you know? You press Y on the gamecube control to quickly swich between when you select a character.
Isaiah Evans
basically this is gonna be our roster in the next 6 years or so, i can dig it
>Sonic >Least likely He is untouchable as of now, he will remain a 3rd party staple of Smash Brothers forever.
Samuel Turner
>sakurai says cuts are likely after ssb4 development >next game has 0 cuts anyway and cutfags refuse to acknowledge this to continue their fanfiction about how x character will be gone
epic
Jaxson Bailey
Churned this out. In my proposal Lucina would inherit Chrom's moveset except for his up-b and maybe neutral-b. Thoughts?
They can either keep bringing over every previous fighter and gradually add less and less new stuff every installment, or they can cut some characters to focus on reworking others and adding new features. It's less that people want certain characters to be cut, though that's also partly the reason for some, and more that we have to acknowledge that this amount of characters was already hard for Sakurai and co to do, and affected the amount of content the game had at launch, so it's likely that they wont keep it going forward.
Oliver Gomez
> WAAAAAH DON'T CUT!!! You zoomers disgust me, all these characters are the reason why there is barely any single player content in the game to begin with. No trophies, break the targets, home-run contest, adventure mode, masterpieces etc.. because we have this shitty big roster.
Fuck off, let Sakurai cut characters and put more single player content, cutting stuff like break the targets, which has been there since 64 is an even bigger crime than cutting characters nobody cares about.
>4 had 58 characters >Ultimate has 82 and counting You have to realise what a massive difference that is.
Henry Morris
>to focus on reworking others and adding new features. Why?
>and more that we have to acknowledge that this amount of characters was already hard for Sakurai and co to do Just like it was in Brawl and SSB4, right, cutfag?
>and affected the amount of content the game had at launch, Oh no they replaced meme modes people only play once for actual characters the vast majority of the playerbase actually cares about, the horror!
Kayden Gomez
> meme mode ZOOM ZOOM
James Price
>No third party is safe. Pretty sure Sonic is. At most I can see them replacing him with his classic version.
Jose Brown
they are meme modes though
Sebastian Miller
cope, you only played break the targets for a few minutes, they're gonna add it as free DLC anyway most likely down the line
Wyatt Wright
>why because it'll be pretty bad if every new smash game is gonna be pretty much just ultimate with 5 new characters also some characters definitely need reworks, like Samus for example
>just like it was in brawl ssb4 see >replaced meme modes no one cares about there's enough people that actually enjoy these modes, don't talk for everyone just because you don't and would rather have 4 versions of marth
Jeremiah Richardson
Wasn’t Jigglypuff on the chopping block for both Brawl and 4? I don’t see why everyone assumes she’s a permanent fixture.
Ayden Thompson
Less than the difference between Brawl and SSB4.
David Wilson
>muh single player content
good thing is a multiplayer game then.
Caleb Miller
with multiplayer that could greatly be improved if it was allowed more time to be developed
Dominic Cook
Improved how?
Jayden Hughes
> N-NO MORE CHARACTERS! PLEASE DON'T CUT MY WAIFU!!! Neck yourselves zoomer scum
>no argument calling people zoomer doesn't prove your point
Jacob Parker
Only zoomers think more characters are good because they think Ultimate is the best game, you will never now the feeling of getting someone cut during Brawl and Wii U
Jace Foster
>N-NO CUT CHARACTERS!! I NEED MY THEORY ABOUT WHY MARIO WILL BE CUT FROM THE NEXT SMASH GAME TO BE PROVEN RIGHT Neck yourselves cutfag scum
I'm not talking about the literal numerical difference
Thomas Foster
I can't help but think that Falco is safe, or at least more likely to remain than Wolf.
I'm just happy that my King Dedede is in here.
Ryan Sanchez
Still less than the difference between Brawl and SSB4.
Thomas Hall
>more modes >better netcode >just generally better ways to find matches The current way with arenas and rulesets is not the way to go, even Sm4sh handled it better
Gabriel Walker
dude, you have no idea how happy i was with Mewtwo being back. it seems to me you want characters cut to make people seethe.that just makes you an asshole.
Imagine not caring about proper balance or more content like trophies and targets which has been there for decades
Rosterfags like you deserve death,
Elijah Brown
Do you not understand that the overall number still increases? They don't just have to add the new characters, they also have to tweak and partially rework old ones on top of that.
Levi Stewart
sausage party
Jonathan Rivera
Retard, less characters = more single player content
Trophies and home-run contest getting cut is unacceptable
Justin Adams
Multiplayer content is more important than single player content.
Ethan James
But it gives them more time to atleast try.
Levi Gray
So? It's still less than the difference between Brawl and SSB4. Ultimate is effectively an enhanced port wheras SSB4 was made from the ground up.
Anthony Butler
I have the solution Split up Smash Bros into more managable fighting games - Mushroom Kingdom Melee - Hyrule Hijinks - Fire Emblem Fighters etc
Parker Howard
Less characters also translates to more multiplayer content, just not in the form of playable characters.
Nathan Hall
refer to this
Jace Williams
How about a spin off? A smash side series with only Pokemon characters could be really nice.
Joshua Clark
Because it'd be cancer getting everyone back again. I don't think you realize how expensive it is to create all of them and get their rights. It almost didn't happen because of Square Enix. But of course, the next game will seem inferior because of its decrease in scale. It's not likely to have any amazing new gameplay wise either.
Daniel Robinson
There should be a proper balance between both retard, don't be an entitled American retard right now
Just accept it, more characters is shit and we need to fix it
Jack White
Let's discuss a Phos moveset (with full knowledge that she's never gonna be in smash). I'd love to see her taking visible permanent damage as her percentage increases, with more and more pieces falling off of her.
pic related would be 999% Phos about to unleash her final smash.
>Less characters also translates to more multiplayer content No it doesn't. Characters are the greatest thing you can add to increase multiplayer replayability.
Caleb Sanchez
What does Pokemon Sword have to do with this? Stop moving the goalpost when you are losing an argument
Jackson Gutierrez
> Characters are the greatest thing you can add to increase replayability. Imagine actually believing this.
Smash zoomers are truly retarded, I bet you were born after 1995
Gavin Sanders
cutfags are masuda in disguise: cutting shit thinking it'll trade off with other things, when it clearly doesn't.
Adrian Brooks
>There should be a proper balance between both Nope. Multiplayer is far more important to the vast majority of the player base. People don't play Smash to break their home run contest score. They do it to screw around with their friends with items on or to have competitive 1v1s.
Connor Brown
I'd imagine the majority of the first party characters will stay, and third party staples like Sonic, Bayonetta, maybe Snake will return. Probably one of the Belmont brothers as well.
Zachary Perez
>proper balance Ultimate is the most balanced smash game so far. Other games had broken bullshit with Fox and Metaknight. >trophies and targets A neat distraction but not really the meat of the game. I can see a case for adventure mode or subspace being brought back but nobody really spent more than 20 minutes in break the targets.
Anthony Young
Pokémon could probably support it's own Smash-style fighter pretty well, unironically.
William Gomez
There’s fucking nothing compelling at all to do at all in single player. Fuck adding more characters as dlc I wish they’d add an adventure mode or story mode. I got tired of the (bad) online after a week and now there’s literally nothing to do with the massive cast of characters. It’s retarded.
Logan Jones
>puff >maybe cut the originals from 64 are safe, and Puff being fairly popular in smash, and in Japan in general, kinda helps her.
Jackson Taylor
Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem, Pokemon Plus Nintendo VS game with iconic Nintendo and third party
Christian Carter
Yes, the difference is less because the overall workload to keep the old ones increases, even if you're still gonna call Ultimate a port they redid most of the models, hitboxes and animations, so effectively they made every character from scratch beyond the planning phase. If they keep everything going forward "ports" is all you're getting, with a lack of side content, as the number of new comers dwindles and dwindles.
Dylan Nguyen
it really is, smash would've never sold as well as it did if there wasn't nintendo characters in it. it's a fanservice game for fucks sake
Jayden King
The absolute state of Smash zoomers, holy shit
Screencapping this Whole thread and going to laugh at you fuckers when you are getting BTFO the next time, enjoy less characters!
>some people in this thread would rather have a trophy they look at for 2 seconds and then forget about for the rest of time over more playable characters
Easton Jenkins
Seeing as Bayonetta is pretty much a series bought by Nintendo I'd say its pretty much guaranteed to not be cut
Chase Price
>no argument again go outside
Ryder Wright
Holy shit that explains why there's two of those threads up right now.
Jayden Jones
Kill yourself weebshitter
Brayden James
> implying there'll ever be another smash game why bother, we've peaked? Just keep adding characters and if the switch ever dies just make a deluxe port or something. We don't need a new smash game
>so effectively they made every character from scratch beyond the planning phase. Nope. Many of the models and the moves are the same. If they need more time they can simply work on the game longer. It isn't complex, cutfag.
>"ports" is all you're getting Better than cutting content for no reason.
Bentley Young
Stop being retarded for once, trophies are better than spirits and marked the first time certain characters were seen in 3D
You are a zoomer if you honestly believe more characters is better than proper balance, you clearly know shit about game Development and just want a MUGEN roster
the game is properly balanced, douche! what more balance could you want? >GAME MODES ILL PLAY FOR 5 MINUTES single player modes like HRC and targets are not balance, and even then can be added as free DLC later.
Robert Miller
Most of the moves have new animations though, so what did they port? The concept? Plus you can easily see that alot of the models are new or atleast reworked, even ones you wouldn't expect to change like Mario. Also the game is supposed to come out reasonably in a consoles lifetime.
It wouldn't be for no reason, it would be to add more content besides playable characters.
Mason Ward
>diddy isn't on the level of luigi/peach/zelda/charizard as a secondary He's a much bigger secondary in the DK games than all of these but Luigi. K. Rool has nothing whatsoever on him.
Luke Torres
t. Zoomer who didn't grow up with 64 and Melee
Playing those stuff gave you rewards retard, you unlocked Luigi by playing targets
Liam Hill
>Wolf Care to explain why he'd be picked over, let's say, Diddy Kong?
Andrew Martinez
>play targets to unlock Luigi >never touch it again >play multi-man melee to unlock Falco >never touch it again
Jaxon Lewis
>"We don't need extra modes because i don't play them" I don't play Fire Emblem character so i guess we don't need those either, ey?
Jayden Baker
> He's still trying Keep typing shit like this, going to screencap every single dumb shit you type so you can get BTFO later on
Colton Taylor
>no more rosterfagging >100% gameplay focus >all rosterfags cry that their shitty characters got cut >everyone else just plays the game >still has shit online based but not quite redpilled
Bentley Richardson
Sakurai could make a new smash game with ideas that highly differ from Ultimate, making it play very differently and not an attempt to be a direct upgrade.
Hell, he could even make a Super Smash bros game in a more traditional fighting game way. Or change how specials work, maybe make the roster smaller but with customizable moves like correcting the failure that was Custom moves in smash 4
Isaiah Ortiz
not me, but the mentioning of zoomers nonstop, and screencapping makes me think you're the same stevefag zoomer who's into BTFO culture and never gets off the chair. it's sad.
Austin Reyes
> No argument Travis Touchdown or bust
Parker Evans
zoomer isn't an argument either.
John Cooper
Travis already got deconfirmed by Suda you silly willy.
Kevin Miller
>Instead of having people pay 60 dollars for a new game, make them pay 60 dollars for the same game, then an extra 25 dollars for minimal new content! Delightfully devilish.
Leo White
Wolf is exactly the same in Ultimate.
Jonathan Nelson
Pretty sure that's why it's called ultimate, it's intended as the final, definitive release. At the very least they won't release another smash until Nintendo makes a new console, should they ever
Evan Price
>home-run contest
That was found in the game's files alongside Stage Builder, which ended up coming back with Joker.
I'm fairly certain it'll be readded when Hero comes out for 4.0
Dylan Morales
It's called Special in Japan stupid
Jackson Jenkins
No he isn't
Jason Lee
Nah fuck off. Give me back the old forward and up smash. Ultimate is too fucking short.
Bentley Gomez
joker would be replaced with a new Persona MC when he comes or even better replaced for an SMT rep
Brandon Green
Sakurai has admitted himself that Jigglypuff is incredibly low priority and would have been cut had Brawl not been delayed to add Sonic.
She's definitely on the chopping block for a paired down roster. He doesn't give a damn about muh original 12. Though I doubt hell cut any series put entirely (unless they're one off retro or hardware reps like Ice Climbers, ROB and Wii Fit Trainer)
