Binding of Isaac: Rebirth killed roguelites for me, so boring I never want to touch one again. Picked up Dead Cells and although mechanically fine, I just couldn't stay invested anymore.

Probably a good reason of why you never see them around anymore. I'm willing to blame the genre's death on Rebirth.

BARKING BOIS

Attached: which one is me.jpg (708x542, 64K)

it's pretty hard for me to tolerate roguelite mechanics in platformers, unless they are designed around it, because enemy placement is important to traditional platformers

I just want one with actual RPG mechanics

Attached: Roguelites.jpg (1380x1075, 623K)

My favorite Roguelite is still Spelunky, the tight design of items, movement, level generation is just really good.

Darkest Dungeon should have been more of a roguelite. Each run with new characters, only taking about an hour to beat.

My nigga. Just got the "Good Teamwork" achievement thursday after 5 years of play

Do any of them have real RPG mechanics?
I just want something that has gear and items and classes and levels and stats like a traditional roguelike but plays top-down with action combat.

Is that really too much to ask? They're always one or the other.

Play wizard of legend

I already got A20 with all classes in Slay the spire, so I hope a new update comes soon.
I used to enjoy dead cells a lot and managed to get 4 cells before the DLC, but after the update I feel like the game has gotten really boring, and almost all the new enemies make the game feels very slow.

God I hope DD2 is nowhere as grindy as DD1. Roguelites should never have any sense of grind to them.

out of all those listed, into the breach is probably the closest rpg

I mean I'm not sure you really need the "rogue" part here, user.
Try Ragnarok Battle Offline.
Also, DoomRL while turn-based feels very dynamic, so you can try it instead.

>I mean I'm not sure you really need the "rogue" part here, user.
Yes I do, if that wasn't what I was looking for I'd just play literally any ARPG

Does anyone else not like hunger mechanics in Rougelikes? At least in survival games, you can plan ahead, and more often than not, you can build/settle down on places with ample food. But with Rougelikes, I feel frustrated when I can pull the Infinity +1 swords, and always pick the right fights, just to die because you couldn't find a loaf of bread for five floors. The only Rougelike, that I've played, that has done a hunger mechanic well was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and that's because you can properly prepare ahead of time, and make sure you're well stocked.

Spelunky and Nuclear throne are the only ones i cared for and i played most. Death road to canada was fun for a few hours but nothing close to the others.

im probably just gonna get called a shill again but

Children of Morta is based. Try the demo on Steam

Attached: children of morta.jpg (1600x800, 275K)

also blazing beaks is a nice little game for a few hours. neat unique mechanic in how its loot system works

Attached: Blazing Beaks.jpg (1560x901, 323K)

Why did Immortal Redneck get so much attention compared to other FPS roguelites anyway? It didn't really seem all that special compared to most others.

is crawl any good solo? i've been told it's a party game.

children of morta has a demo on steam to play this weekend its not out yet but it might be what you're looking for

>just to die because you couldn't find a loaf of bread for five floors.
Any roguelike worth its salt will have seeded food spawns so this isn't possible.

have you seen void bastards? fps roguelites are kind of shit. shouldn't be 30 dollars.

Is says it's just an ARPG though

crypt of the necrodancer isn’t really that good. just a fun curious game about “hey what if we mix this genre with another one”

i have never personally played it but i enjoy that they cut a deal with Nintendo to make cadence of hyrule

Nintendofags literally gobble up any trash they get

Bit better at randomly mixing genres than Battle Chef Brigade, at least.

its in desperate need of an online multiplayer;

solo is fun but you get more and more bored as you realize you can be doing it with bros :(

I haven't actually. There's Strafe and Paranautical Activity - which are both a bit barebones I admit, but then there's Ziggurat. IR is pretty much just a reskin of that. And then Heavy Bullets and Tower of Guns (which I also haven't played)

I just don't really understand why IR turned into THE fps roguelike when it doesn't really bring anything special enough to make it break out like that. Did a popular streamer play it or something?

no clue, but i played void bastards for about 2 hours before refunding it. some people call it the holy grail of FPS roguelites.

spoiler alert: it's just dumbed down 3D FTL. wait for a sale where it's half off and it will just barely be worth it.

Dungeon Souls?

Hey I'm going to try and host Crawl through Parsec; as my controller broke playing darksouls, I can't actually play it, but I would like anyone in this thread to play Crawl on my behalf with your fellow Yea Forumsros, and test it out.

I can host this through my Mixer account which has lower latency than Twitch.

do i have any volunteers?

Attached: 1557743186696.jpg (331x132, 5K)

Why is roguelite shit always so wacky and silly?

>Heavy Bullets
Heavy Bullets seems like it's built on a single gimmick, but the entire game is built around breaking that gimmick to shit out bullets over multiple playthroughs. It fails as a roguelike and the one saving grace is how ludicrously fast you move.

The developer's follow up, High Hell, is infinitely better, and doesn't use procgen at all.

>Its a spawn like 5 chests and no keys floor
>Its a spawn like 3 ammo drops in a row when I only have one shitty gun at full ammo and then never drop another ammo crate all run floor
I'm enjoying Gungeon so far but god damn if this shit doesn't always happen to me.

no thanks. if i knew you i'd be down tho.

you're just making rebirth sound like a pleb filter

every roguelite needs a gimmick, else they're just the same shitty game

It was even worse at launch.

Oh shit, I got them mixed up. Heavy Bullets is the one I didn't play and Tower of Guns is the one I did.

Yeah dude, FTL is totally the same as Dead Cells.

Isn't it being roguelite the gimmick in and of itself?

Its the closest to an actual roguelike than all the other lites.

>noa dropped elona to make a shitty roguelite

back stabbing zipperhead chink

Attached: D9hh_EvWsAETvhd.jpg (590x590, 48K)

there's a hidden stat called coolness that improves your drops

enterthegungeon.gamepedia.com/Coolness

also, the rat does not pick up keys. if you leave keys on the floor there will be a more likely chance they will appear in the shop. avoid picking up keys until you find the shop to maximize key efficiency

Do you.. do you need to get to know people in order to play games with them? what kind of sheltered logic is that.

At least the ost is god tier

Man, I keep forgetting Elona exists and is a roguelike. All I can ever think of when I hear that name is Elona shooter from Kongregate.

That's out of date information, you do not need to leave keys anymore.

Except it's not remotely hard - it's still BoI, just don't get an impromptu lobotomy and you're golden for every challenge. It's just incredibly boring to try to 100%.
And if you can't 100% a roguelite without falling the fuck asleep, what's the point.

What "filtered" me was spending 25 ingame, recorded hours just rerolling the first floor as Isaac with the D6 to get the Skeleton Key, the last item needed for Golden God. Didn't get one. All challenges finished, all bossrushes easily beaten, even got Meat Boy and Bandage Girl, just needed that one item.

If that counts as pleb filtered, call me down and out for the count.

What game? I want to get angry

how the fuck do I deal with guardian doggos?

FTL
March of the Living
Void Batsards
Pathway

they have the same map gimmick but DRASTICALLY different combat gameplay.

>Need coolness to increase random drops
>Everything that increases coolness is a random drop
Good to know those items make other drops better still.

youtube.com/watch?v=QAkl0dgaJfk

according to him
its not supposed to be a rougelike but it looks like one
his previous videos showed 3d models then transitioned back to 2d sprites

so nobody really knows what the hes planning

>It's just incredibly boring to try to 100%.
ain't that the fucking truth. I got mega satan on the first try after getting the poster. I've done about half of the challenges at this point I don't feel like diluting the item pool with a bunch of bullshit though. I'm kinda burnt out

Attached: 250900_screenshots_20190529201932_1.jpg (1920x1080, 218K)

>What "filtered" me was spending 25 ingame, recorded hours just rerolling the first floor as Isaac with the D6 to get the Skeleton Key
Your autism is showing

they should make one of these but with good gameplay and more roguelike elements

>roguelike
>it has permadeath so it's just like rogue

Attached: 1478321631212.png (686x686, 80K)

yo mommas like rogue

anyone know what Looking for Heals plays like? looks cool but don't want to waste my money

Normally you're right, but you should read the thread. Literally everyone is using the term roguelite in this thread.

McMillen's meltdown over Lost getting datamined was legendary, man, what a shitshow that was.

No shit.

Unlock The Forgotten and you'll have some fun again. I can't stop playing him now, though.

On the one hand, fuck McMillen. On the other hand, fuck dataminers.

I mostly have fun playing the game trying to break it different ways. If my buddy wants to put more hours into it I plan on slapping together a small item pack for us to play with. I want to design a couple of items that are charged a bit every time you pick up a coin and see what I can do with that mechanic.

Attached: 20190529235502_1.jpg (1920x1080, 235K)

>shits on the game that much
>only missed a single item to get golden god
what

I cheesed the moving box and my buddy had to eat every pill that made him larger

Attached: 20190530001224_1.jpg (1920x1080, 203K)

People aren't calling these games roguelikes though
If they were they'd be wrong

heeeeeeell yeah brother I get my jollies from doing multiple floors

Attached: [Isaac] yatatatatata'.webm (1920x1080, 2.81M)

Attached: 20190530001809_1.jpg (1920x1080, 181K)

I forget how long this one went on but we spent a lot of time messing with items so it took a while.

Attached: 20190530003514_1.jpg (1920x1080, 189K)

Finally started playing Necrodancer, years after buying it. It's a lot of fun, I'm on zone 3

tfw shit at gungeon but good at nuclear throne
i feel like its too slow for me

gungeon pukes cum

Wazhack is my favorite roguelite. It's a little bland, but I find it really fun.

Sweet bait

more like this? looks fun

they died because all anyone ever makes are shallow directional shooters or mediocre metroidvanias with terrible art styles, dead cells is an exception artwise but still suffers from stale combat with no real depth. The next one to come out without a cutesy/tumblr art style will be a hit, just look at how well risk of rain 2 did, all they have to do is make their game not look like chibi niggerfest #9000 and it immediately does well.

It's really short, but I enjoyed Heart&Slash. Wish they'd expand on it some more or make a sequel.

Attached: 3addfca3994a0537a21c88e490664e48_large.png1392642850.png (700x615, 259K)

WoL is shit. Intentionally ignores a bunch of standard action game balancing decisions so it can add them in as items and spells later. Entire game is just about stunlocking entire rooms of enemies to death because if they get a chance to actually do anything you get hit (and potentially stunlocked against a wall).

The fact that stuff as simple as fucking iframes for your dodge is locked behind a lategame item that requires 20-30 hours of gameplay to unlock is just ridiculous.

>no mention of vagante or catacomb kids

Attached: 543523748.png (328x386, 184K)

Is anything even remotely as good as Isaac? I got Gungeon but its just so boring compared to it.

Gungeon is slower paced than most actual ASCII roguelikes.

Dungeon of the endless, Everspace

Well its just not the games speed but other things that I really dislike compared to Isaac like bad and less loot in general and enemy health scaling

any delver bros in?

Attached: 1559705152552.jpg (1440x900, 147K)

Synthetik is one of the best.

Attached: synthetik gameplay.webm (854x480, 2.98M)

I just finished this demo and honestly I'm fucking frustrated it didn't save anything and reset me. I was in the save the cub questline and had just gotten the last item. Like did you finish it and know what happens user? Do tell if so, because I'm not playing again just to find out. The game is way too slow and frustrating for that.

Wizard of legend is a little bit like morta

Attached: WOL.gif (800x450, 3.85M)

I'm unforunately not one of the original backers so I only got to play the demo as well but i love it, and promptly pre-ordered it.

game looks cool, is it worth the price?

looks like a flash game

I think its fun, but the combat is pretty basic

Give it a pirate if you want to try it out

I'm pretty sure you can finish it in the demo, but it kicked me out before I could see the cutscene. Also I beat that spider with Linda because you already did it with the other guy. It's extremely difficult, felt like 2D Dark Souls, but I managed to get lucky and cheese with 4x damage boost from that one relic that gives you 2x damage when under 25% health. Got really lucky with that one and somehow found two in one run. Hit 60 per shot and killed that thing once and for all.

>kickstarter exclusive content
lol

synthetik is top notch. level design dont mean shit tho. but they really went through the effort of making a game w/ great base mechanics

Attached: terminus.webm (960x540, 2.86M)

Is Vagante good or not? No one talks about it and I've had it on my wishlist forever. It always goes on sale too.

But you are always guaranteed a key each floor. You just waste it. Ammo crates are pretty dumb though.

I like it a lot. one of the more rogue-like roguelites. You gotta play it patiently and theres not a whole lot of variety.

Attached: 3b4bd805936055745af21e55ca80ceb0.gif (692x438, 1.64M)

I honestly did about the same as you. I got the first thing done in the cub questline on the same run i beat the spider so i didn't get to see anything. honestly thinking about replaying it to play through with the bow bitch because John is OP.

Oh well, there's like three things and you fight a boss at the end of it. John feels strong in comparison. Like can't he just knock back and swing for days? It's crazy how that works. Probably don't even need to shield.

at least it isn't bloodstained. kickstarter dogs and shit as enemies is retarded

Attached: orclopsnojiggle.gif (96x96, 5K)

>deflecting

>defending bloodstained

what is this

>still deflecting
Bloodstained isn't relevant to this thread. Tell me why it's okay that Children of Morte has relics and a character that you only get to use if you preordered years in advance.

Tell me there's more than these games. I want something even better. RoR just feels like crap with the RNG and Gungeon is tiring me out going down three-four floors only to end up dying.

why the fuck can't i find a game like these that isn't fantasy or medieval with actual rpg mechanics

What a dumb name. Either it's Rogue or it isn't. We don't call games that feature platforming "Mariolikes"

Attached: 1step.jpg (1830x987, 152K)

Because it suffers from what we'll call the Parasite effect, in that a lot of people look at procgen and think "oh look at all this work we don't have to do".

No, but we've had doomlikes and GTAlikes, and the genre never really took off in the gigantic way necessary to get a good name adopted.

hows blazing beaks
that looked cute

save

I'm awful at these kinds of games but I'm slowly getting better. About to hit floor 10, probably gonna get my shit pushed in by the Dwarf King as usual.

Attached: Screenshot_20190622-024335.png (1440x2560, 201K)

I don't even get to him, I run out of food like right before.

i hated gungeon when it came out because the ammo and key problems were much worse than they are now. but after all the updates and such it's become one of my favorites in the genre. still is a bit lacking in variety since most runs cam feel very samey, but the core gameplay and item synergies are very enjoyable

How the fuck do I beat Crypt of the Necrodancer all zones mode with Bolt? This shit feels fucking cheap half the time. I like getting a blood bow & arrow or at least a blood spear/longsword and crown of thorns for regeneration, but should I focus on damage instead? I doubt I can get lucky enough for blood weapons, crown AND boot and ring of damage to have both regeneration and damage.

lmao what the fuck it looks almost exactly like Elona down to the mechanics

I never really have issues with food so far. I only eat when I'm starving and not at max health, so my food lasts a good while.

They probably just wanted money for doing the same work.
Fair enough.

Is there a mod that adds pushing blocks on an edge by running into them back? I fucking hate Spelunky HD for removing this.

Have no idea, actually had an easier time doing Aria Low% than Bolt normally.

Anyone hyped for Monolith update?

>Monochrome Gungeon
It's literally the same fucking game

Bought Void Bastards on release and had a blast with it. Get it if you like resource management and SS2 gameplay

Attached: 20190620230523_1.jpg (1680x1050, 236K)

What kind of drugs are you smoking to think Monolith is anything close to resembling Gungeon?

Attached: D6tfrIQW4AAVweN.jpg (640x360, 8K)

Thanks for reminding me about Monolith.

>tfw

Attached: Untitled.png (365x141, 61K)

Is that Legion Rising? What separates it as a full price game compared to Synthetik Arena?

Attached: 1545674220195.jpg (960x960, 85K)

anyone know any games like moonlighter where your just a shopkeep collecting items to sale?

I wish this had a sequel. Got me into playing roguelikes. I've got a soft spot for these Japanese style ones like Shiren and Mystery Dungeon.

Attached: 220px-ZhpUnlosingRanger.jpg (220x379, 38K)

curious as well, good call

>non stop flashes and screen shake
into the trash

Too much roguelike trash.

Anyone have a good list of roguelikes, i've had the itch but DCSS is shit now and i've played the fuck out of TOME

I don't understand the appeal of some Roguelites, specifically Gungeon and Isaac.
Gungeon revolves around "le WACKY guns!!!!!!" but doesn't give you any of the said wacky guns until you've played the game for dozens of hours and has some of the slowest combat I've played in a supposed frantic bullet hell while pretending you have the size and maneuverability of Dodonpachi.
I've only played the old Isaac version, not ReBirth but it doesn't seem like the fundamental gameplay would change drastically enough to bring me in, but it has the same sort of issue that Gungeon does with being slow as shit and having all the cool items locked behind ridiculous progression walls, on top of being even slower.

ooh nice, thanks

Because it's one of dozens of copypasted "top down shooter where you explore random set of floors in a grid until you find (key) to (descend/ascend), aquire (random powerup chosen from list of 3) as level finish bonus, complete with random locked rooms where you can spend your small life pool for upgrades."

It's the same fucking game with a different coat of paint and I dont understand how you haven't seen it yet, it's like if all the shitty indie metroidvanias tried to cling to a different genre name to not be called out on being the same game.

>play nuclear throne first
>try other games that are technically more polished and have more content but get bored because they feel so damn slow

>Isaac slower than gungeon
You can beat a game of Isaac in about 20-30 minutes. A game of gungeon could take upwards an hour or more.
>I never played Monolith
That's all you had to say, I won't judge you.

>DUDE WE DON'T HAVE TO WRITE ANYTHING OR MAKE IT INTERESTING IF YOU JUST DIE AND RESTART LMAO
when will this meme end

Only good ones here are Spelunky Risk of Rain and Rogue Legacy
what classics

>You can beat a game of Isaac in about 20-30 minutes. A game of gungeon could take upwards an hour or more.
I meant the gameplay itself but time is a giant issue I have with Gungeon too

What makes that any different than old arcade games?

I dunno, TTK feels much faster in Isaac on average than it does in Gungeon.

Gungeon is boring piece of shit.

still better than isaac now

What roguelite is that? All the ones I've played have good writing and are genuinely interesting. Except maybe Pixel Dungeon since it's just an easy fun game instead.

Binding of Isaac has become an unlock slog after beating the Lost.
Dead Cells, despite having heart, is memey garbage with loose, janky gameplay.
Blazing Beaks is an amazing premise with negative amounts of content.
Necrodancer is balls hard but fun.
Gungeon is still nice.

What game do I need to get next guys?

it might not be good it but it is fun

I would legit never leave my house again if DD2 were just a fusion between FTL and DD1, with no grind and 2h max of game time.

Monolith.
Support your yesdevs.

Legion Rising is the main game where you go thru levels and bosses and such like any other roguelite. Arena is basically different types of horde modes.

How is the Necrodancer DLC? I haven't actually touched Necrodancer since it released because I wasn't interested at the time and have an autistic little tick where I can't bring myself to play a game if I don't own every piece of playable content.

Gungeon and Throne are basic trash compared to Synthetik.
The gunplay, item balance, and mechanics are much more satisfying in it.
Nobody gives it any attention though because there's no streamer culture behind it and the difficulty filters out plebs.

As for platformers, Spelunky will always be top dog unless the sequel can surpass it.

LR is the full roguelite game, Arena is more of a free gameplay demo.
The paid arena expansion gives you access to a few extra things in arena, but the main beef is adding arena mode and weapons to LR.

>I never played Monolith
I wish, at least I beat it before the 2 hour refund window was up.

Attached: Untitled.png (203x86, 2K)

Monolith is that easy?

I fucking did it boys. Literally shaking rn

Attached: 521321321.jpg (1920x1080, 358K)

Wait until you unlock the gunslinger at half a heart. Now that was a fucking adrenaline rush.

It's really marginal, I have it as part of the the switch version and had to look up what's actually included. There's a neat Virt music option which just straight up perfects the OST, no crazy remixes or anything - just an amazing re-instrumentalization.
I also fought one of the new bosses which was fun.

Other than that, I guess you can live without it unless you basically completed everything the base game has to offer.

Yea, it's Legion Rising.

good job, it took me like 40 hours for my first dragun kill run. always died on floors 3-4 before that. but after it, the game started to really just click for me. still plenty of stuff that gives me trouble though

Funny the way you described it was literally not Monolith at fucking all.

>go through the first area a total of 400 times
>go through the final area a total of 8 times

Attached: NormAreYouKiddingMe.png (310x301, 59K)

I'm not proud of this number

Also after I did this run I did another with huntress and just aced it instantly

Attached: Steam_2019-06-22_09-40-38.png (313x159, 58K)

Have you done a past kill yet?

This is why I can't stand the majority of roguelikes

Yes actually, I killed the marines past on that picture and then the huntress right after. Felt good man

Everyone saying Gungeon is too slow needs to turn on turbo mode. Its not quite as fast as Nuclear Throne but its a big improvement. Haven't turned it off since I unlocked it.

Despite having so little to do with roguelikes and even roguelites that I'm not sure if it even fits this thread, I am going to shill this game here because I think it deserves it. You see that overwhelmingly positive review score it has on Steam? There's a good reason for that.

Attached: SoR.png (200x300, 81K)

Son of a witch is kinda like Isaac but without the edgelord setting. Only thing is, you're gonna need some RNG on the first level or you're screwed. Other than that, it's pretty fun. OPs pic is missing one of the best ones imo, Dead Cells

Attached: file.jpg (1024x576, 114K)

How is Dead Cells seriously the best one? I saw gameplay and it didn't really look that great.

Depends on how many boss cells in the gameplay you saw. It changes dramatically depending on the loot pool and boss cells. Anyway, i like it because of how you can select drastically different playstyles. Traps + ranged plays completely different to shield + melee which again play different than aggressive melee. Also love the art style and the way you unlock blueprints. Anyway, forgot another great one - Has been heroes. It's a tactical roguelite that's so hard it triggered most reviewers. Once it clicks, there is hundreds of hours worth of content in it

I'm still waiting for the perfect Top Down Shooter Roguelite and the perfect FPS Roguelite to be made.

>the perfect FPS Roguelite
I know its not perfect, neither is it an FPS, but Risk of Rain 2 could come close enough to scratch those itches for you.

I haven't played it, but I'd rather wait for it to come out of Early Access so I get the best first impression.

The game needs more interesting levels and endgame more than anything else so that's a fair assessment
Really really good base to build off of though

Attached: hrs.png (278x124, 39K)

It looks bad though

Any more games like isaac on 3ds?

>tfw RoR2 is basically that
>tfw RoR2 plays like Doom

I used to play Binding of Issac a bunch, but once I started playing Nuclear Throne all other roguelites feel way too slow to play without being super bored. I've modded the game and they can't code for shit - but they do know how to add """""""""""""""gamefeel""""""""""""" and make Nuclear Throne feel so good.

>but they do know how to add """""""""""""""gamefeel""""""""""""" and make Nuclear Throne feel so good.
The "juice" is terrible, it's mostly good SFX, decent instant death animations, and pacing.
I've seen enough fucking screenshake to last a lifetime.

Matter of taste I suppose, I love the frame sleeps and weapon bobs when you shoot that they add - screenshake also helps.

It is much better felt than watched. Pirate it and give it a go for a while as you unlock some stuff, simply watching videos of it doesn't even begin to do it justice.

That game is boring as fuck.

Did you just beat floor 5 and think that's all?

How is nuclear throne content vise?
I know noting come close to Isaac but does it like as much content as gungeon?

>congrats you unlocked some extra ship and some abilities to make your next run easier
Yeah basically. Wasn't good enough the first time around it sure isn't going to be more fun later.

>didn't unlock floor 6

Attached: 1478206208010.gif (400x458, 309K)

It's $1 with the Xbox game pass this month

Ok fags I downloaded Dead cells. What am in for?

Like 1/10th. By design.

Nuclear Throne gets mentioned in roguelite threads, but it's a token nod. Design wise, it's definitely in the spirit and vein of an arcade game, which it's very good at. An arcade game with procgen-ish levels, and you're out of quarters.

Even then, some of those mutations and weapons could be culled with no casualties. Brilliant, but focused on arcade action, not dungeon-delving.

I've literally beaten all of these.

Please. I beg y'all. Help me with recommendations.

There has to be some hidden gem or something I don't know about.

Just bust a Boulder with a pick and cast stone to flesh. It’s not that hard user.

I mean these are very loose definitions but could scratch the itch.

Caveblazers
Ape out
Rain World
Perhaps even Kenshi?

I just beat Void Bastards. I liked it for most of the game, but that fucking ending ruined it for me.

Some of those games are really damn fine, but I have to admit Slay the Spire grabbed me by the balls harder than any of the others. Even though I've 100%ed it and done all there is I still fire it up and play and have a good time. I've actually played it more than anything in years, and it's my highest-time-played on my 14 year old Steam account.

Do you have upgrades that stay after you die in void bastards?

What about Below?

Attached: 1544969020_694261_1544969374_noticia_normal.jpg (1200x675, 33K)

Yes. The resources you gather like materials, fuel, food, et cetera are all lost,
but all gun upgrades, armor, all that stuff is permanent.

I'm too dumb to get past ascension 17 but I can appreciate the care that went into designing the game

>RogueLIKE/lite
Is there even a single Roguelike out there that isnt a writhing pile of autism but still manages to be 'smart'? Or just worth talking about for that matter?

Seriously, thank you so much just for answering with actual helpful recommendations. I will absolutely check those out. I really appreciate it.

huh?

Did ANYONE in this thread even try to beat TBoI as Keeper? THIS is the actual hard part of the game, not the fucking faceroll The Lost is.

Is there any good FTL clone?

I have an extra copy of Spelunky even though hipster fags think its souless. Time for a scavenger hunt. Below are the first 5 digits. The last 5 are at the bottom of my stream. The middle ill type in chat first person that says soul.

BCKFC-

Convoy is similar if I remember correctly, I don't know if it's any good though

Has been heroes
Son of a witch
Dead Cells
Downwell
Blazing Beaks
Feral Fury
Hand of Fate 2 (3d combat + card game with roguelite stuff)
Thea: The awakening - stretching it here but it's got some roguelite in it
For the king - turns based strategy
Tangledeep
Moonlighter
A robot named fight
Neurovoider
Flinthook

You are a god damn champion, user.
Thank you very, very much.

Not him, but here's some more:
Deathstate
Depths of Fear :: Knossos - it's somewhat shitty, but it's pretty fun for a while, just speedrunning through the dark-ass levels can get your blood pumping
Stoneshard: Prologue - it's pretty simple to get into and kinda fun, you can consider it a demo for a full game that's coming

Couple of new ones:
Blazing Beaks
Void Bastards

+1 for Hand of Fate
Both 1 and 2 are good

Attached: 1560875987639.gif (366x245, 224K)

I discovered it because is included in the XBox Game Pass for PC.
Actually interesting.

I really don't see how Into The Breach is a rogue like. It's just an incredibly simple, small scaled puzzle RTS with random drops. Your guys don't even die if they blow up in a mission.

Is dead cells really that good?

SYNTHETIK BROS RISE UP

Maybe if Gungeon didn't have 80% shit items and had good hitboxes it would be good. A massive majority of any item in Gungeon is hot garbage.

I always forget how much fun 20XX was playing with a friend. Damn, that was a fun game.

i started playing gungeon a few days ago and the hunter is easily my favorite character

mediocre game with very amateur design. and probably the worst balanced sound in any game ever

I've beaten it once with a Samurai. It took 2 years and probably hundreds of hours.

When I bought Crypt of the Necrodancer a while ago it took me forever to get past Zone 2, started playing it again two days ago and I already beat all 4 zones with Cadence and Melody. Aria seems like a nightmare to play as though, might be a while before I beat the game as her.

If you like platforming with roguelite features, yes. Yes, it is

Elona

>We don't call games that feature platforming "Mariolikes"
people called first person shooters "Doom clones" for years user

>amateur design
Elaborate. It has depth to its mechanics and a lot of gameplay polish. Name me one other top down game with as satisfying weapons in it. Items also being able to be swapped around and traded out makes it far less RNG reliant than other roguelites out there.
>worst balanced sound in any game ever
Either you're shitposting or big booming weapons hurt your baby ears, because the gun sounds in in Gungeon for example sound like weak pea shooters in comparison.

Good gunplay, but you managed to pick the one game that feels even more samey and gets old faster than gungeon.

>white gangsta
>benevolent, stylish, immortal, triangle
>single black female "gangsta"
>canon thief, untrustworthy, traitor, vile, unable to speak properly, woman

What did the devs mean by this?

I disagree, I have 200+ hours in synth but only 40 in gungeon. Something about it is so bland.

Yeah, Aria is a fucking nightmare.
It's one of those challenges where you it's fairly easy not to make mistakes, but you have to keep not making mistakes for quite a while. One fuckup and you're done.

>Platforming
I hate this
>Roguelike
I have a love-gate relationship with binding of isaac

Anyone else like Invisible Inc?
Roguelight turnbased stealth game. It's pretty darn good.

Is this a mod?

To be honest, it's more about combat and making the right builds than platforming though there are some tricky platforming sections in it

nah, second dog is baby mimic

How the fuck am I supposed to unlock jewrat? Should I just do dedicated pilot runs into the oubliette and dump hordes of shells into it?

Bretty gud game, I just wish there was more complexity to it. It's a shame they only ever released one DLC for it.

Looks Fooly Cooly to me

What are you playing Pixel Dungeon on?

Do you know how to get around Error code: 0x80070005? I can't install any game that requires admin approval, which I obviously have, and every fix I've tried never worked.

I’m curious what about DCSS is shit now? I haven’t played it in a while in favor of other dungeon crawl/rogue-like games. To me, back then, it was what I compared what made a good rogue-like to.

It looks like aiming and gunplay sucks ass big time.
Is that true?

So how difficult is Caves of Qud compared to Nethack? Nethack is the only roguelike I've really put a lot of time into, so it's the only one I have to compare things too. Wondering if Caves of Qud is worth investing time into, the learning curve for true roguelikes is insane.

parcsec has host advantage so unless youre using cloud based computing through parsec it wont be fair.

Damn none of my Yea Forums bros took me up. Oh well ill give it away another day. Least 5 people watched me choke on the 3rd stage of hell

It's very basic stuff. There's not feel of impact when you shoot anything, the stealth might as well not be there, some weapons and gadgets are rubbish. It feels very unpolished. I went through it once and feel no need to play it again.
It's not offensively bad, it just doesn't impress in any way.

>her homie goes on a mission

Thank you for explanation

I also noticed that some games won't install from the Xbox Game Pass For Pc Game page, and they all have the admin approval shit.
But when i click "Open Microsoft Store" in the popup, then I can install them with no problems.

That game looked cool, but ultimately I disliked it
>buggy as fuck coop
>most upgrades and skills are just stat increases
>very repetitive level design with all the random shit for you to get stuck on in the heat of the battle
>all the things that slows you down: barbed wires, shield enemies, tasers, that one difficulty modifier if you hate yourself
>most battles boil down to "bait all the fags into a blob, unload all your shit on them, dash away and reload/wait for cd"
>boring boss fights
>daily rewards like it's some mobile trash
>that fucking sawblade earrape
Would not recommend.

Keeper is unbearably horrible. Keep at it, here's the usual strategy:

Unlock swallowed penny and go bombing pots on floor 1. You should be able to find it about one every three runs or so.

Abuse sacrifice rooms: Leave money lying around and go poke yourself on the spikes. Collect one coin. Repeat. After the big troll bomb charge your next summon will be an archangel, be ready to fight him and make sure you have some coins inside the room. Now go for angel rooms.

And lastly of course, git gud and pray to RNGsus.

well get back on there son. it's 8am and I want to watch it

if you and your friends like arpg's it's very fun and yes you are competing to be the hero so fuck each other over as much as you can, its not deep though so don't worry too much on winning to get unlocks

Is Void Bastards considered a roguelite?

>rerolling the first floor as Isaac with the D6 to get the Skeleton Key, the last item needed for Golden God. Didn't get one.

you know, you can't get this item from treasure room, right?

Thanks user, much love.

Yes, it is one,

Why? Its the game I had the most fun with out of all the games in OPs pic

I have no idea either, Necrodancer is a very tightly designed game, it's not like they made a rhythm game and a roguelike game and stapled them together. It's about learning enemy patterns and being able to adapt to them quickly, which is something that's not core to either roguelikes or rhythm games.

I think it's a love it or hate it kind of game, the learning curve is weird as all fuck and runs can go from 100 to 0 real fast.

Starting the game can be hard, going from Cadence to Melody is easy, going from Melody to Aria is fucking brutal and I don't think anyone considers that jump in difficulty anywhere near sane.

np - enjoy, it's a great game

Attached: 1559140704480.png (240x240, 114K)

I wish Aria wouldn't die on missing a beat. Just have her get stunned on missing a beat or something, so you still die if you panic when surrounded by enemies, but you don't die if you just accidentally mess up at the start of a level. I really love the dagger only 1 HP part of her, and it made me appreciate a lot of the enemy designs and learn their patterns, but the missed beat thing makes me not wanna bother.

Catacomb kids is fucking dead

Children of morta seems to be somewhat that.
Roguelite implies you don't really plan and build your character though, you take what you get or dont

Void Bastards isn't worth your money. I had fun but it moves at a snail's pace, even on Bastard difficulties. The art and general theme are good, though.
Gungeon's great. Fucking molasses slow until you unlock the notSonic guy. I hope they make something else soon.
Hand of Fate is super """neat""" but it and the sequel could sure use a ton of polish.

gracios mios amigous

Attached: 1501886203371.png (414x474, 17K)

Enjoy it!

People will stop calling them roguelikes when people come up with a better name for them

"Procedual Death Labyrinths" was very briefly a thing until people realized that was fucking stupid.
Either way, roguelike is fine, as long as people don't use it as a genre in itself, but rather as a descriptor. Isaac and Gungeon are roguelike twinstick shooters, Necrodancer is a roguelike rhythm game, Spelunky is a roguelike platformer, etc.

Based Yea Forumsermin.

I have easily done over 100 runs AFTER meeting all the criteria to unlock the paradox but the faggot fucking rift never spawns. Does what I can do besides cheat it in my inventory? I really like Gungeon but this is some horse shit.

Dungeon Runners almost works except half of them dont take place in dungeons

What? Isn't it a guaranteed spawn? I've seen it multiple times in the like 5 runs I did before I learned I shouldn't be avoiding it

>mfw this genre was the reason I purchased a Vita for
>mfw no regrets even though a lot of the games are kinda broken

>The best game gets the biggest spot

It is apperently a 20% chance to spawn after beating a single past. Well I beat everyone's past even bullet and robot. Still it doesn't spawn. I also beat the Lich as everyone too since I was on a binge for this game. I have searched all the floors and all the bonus floors and still can't find it. I seen what it looks like to so it isn't just me being retarded. It is frustrating as hell.

Attached: file.png (3520x1080, 1.31M)

I don't know what to say except "weird". Good luck.

Why do some people get so worked up about the name roguelike/roguelite

They're the same people who go into an autistic rage when someone calls a winged reptile with four limbs a dragon.

To me they keep stripping out the immersive elements and creating more meta friendly gameplay changes in order to facilitate their niche speedrunning community rather then making the game more varied and interesting

I've been playing DCSS for quite some time and when they started removing basic races like dwarf and replacing them with super broken magic cats, as well as making it so you could train any skill without actually using said skill, where as before to learn magic as a non-magic user start you needed to gain a level in magic first by using scrolls

Its also much much easier, probably because speedrunners use scripts and get mad when something randomly kills their scripted speedrun bots, I remember having to run from sigmund on most characters starting out, now I can just face tank and melee him even as a magic user.

Because they are different things.

Autism.

Listen here you little shit, a dragon has 4 legs AND wings. If it only has two legs and wings its a FUCKING Wyvern.

found one.

UPDATE WEN

Attached: 1550510013149.jpg (500x722, 86K)

>roguelite
nigger, it's a rune factory-like

ASCII tile roguelike fans mad that their games are being shoved even further into the dark corner by platformers/shooters with RPG elements

Because its an old genre that had a pretty organized community since the 80s. They even settled on the name rogue-like through some official con of theirs back in the day I believe. The games that followed were called roguelike because they emulated Rogue, and used the same if not very similar concepts. You call it rogue-like, there is a certain expectation that the game is like rogue.

Its only with modern indies that people have started experimenting with it. I don't know who started with persistent unlocks, but Isaac made it super popular, and so I think stuff like Isaac, Gungeon and Nuclear Throne could be called Isaaclike.

So now we have the grognards and purists who harken back to the old days of ASCII-games(or still play and develop them), and we have other people who like the more modern games that borrow some elements from roguelikes but not all. But they still call them roguelikes, and this makes the purists pissed off.

Attached: 1464858431371.png (633x758, 335K)

Spelunky is generally considered to be the first "roguelite". It did not have unlockable items like Isaac, but it did have some kind of persistent unlock in that it had the tunnels that let you start in a later area.

Yo don't forget about dredmor

It was horribly overrated

Attached: file.png (460x215, 292K)

How is Dead Cells

Fantastic. There are balance issues at 4-5 boss cells but you'd probably have to play for 100 hours to even get there

Dredmor is just a roguelike, though, not another genre with roguelike elements like Spelunky. It has metagame progression, but in terms of gameplay, it's a grid-based turn-based RPG with permadeath and random generation.

I remember when it came out people argued heavily whether or not it counted as a roguelike, on account of its unlocks and graphics. I think around here is when I started hearing the term roguelite?

that doesn't make sense either because gungeon is literally nothing like rogue
it's the roguelites that should come up with a different name if anything

it is a boring and shallow game

It's a roguelike twin-stick shooter, because its main difference from standard twin-stick shooters is that it has randomly generated dungeons and character death is permanent, like in Rogue.

I still go back to Dredmor every now an then. It's not the best roguelike but it's one of my favourites to chill out and play.

Has anyone tried pic related?
It looks kinda interesting in so far as pew pew and randomness are a good combination. Then again the setting seems kinda ass. Does anyone know if it's any good?

Attached: cq5dam.thumbnail.319.319.png (319x305, 186K)

The first roguelike i played was shiren the wanderer on ds. These fuckers kept turning my nice weapons into riceballs

I believe only the paid beta testing is on EGS, the complete game will release on the other stores.

Get it. Its 10/10 I have a few characters at ng+6 and it keeps being fun. Also the devs are big brain masterminds, the game has all the good design decisions. I honestly dont know why this game is not popular more.

Attached: capsule_616x353.jpg (616x353, 85K)

Everyone loves it, I'm not a fan.
The controls are great, but the little content it has is so thinly stretched it just hurts. Get ready to kill the same 3 guys per level over and over again until boredom makes you slip up.
The levels themselves overstay their welcome too, and honestly the maze layout is completely pointless - you just want to sprint through them as fast as you can, hoping to find the correct path to get a bonus.

It's a great basic skeleton of a game and you may enjoy it, for me it's like eating cardboard.

That's a mystery dungeon though

Whats the difference

The gameplay loop. In Mystery dungeons you dive as far as you can, bail out, refine your gear(usually) then dive back until your gear is good enough. It's not a game intended to be played on the one perfect run.

If you google myster dungeon they literally call them roguelikes

Well the original was certainly based off rogue but has made its own significant deviation to be its own thing. I'm not even being a purist in this sense, the game isn't permadeath by design choice.

What happens when you die?
Exactly, so it's a roguelite then.

You don't. You use an escape dungeon item or you use a send to storage item to save your best gear. Unlike the roguelike loop you're expected to incrementally gather power and barrel through once you have enough.

Crypt and Spire are the best to just replay over and over.

Attached: serveimage(4).png (512x256, 99K)

You can easily turn it off and even adjust.

For me, it's Neon Chrome.

Attached: 1553622627893.jpg (616x353, 34K)

if we could just eat monsters instead

Can you explain how the game plays to me? Looked like a reskinned Nuclear Throne to me at first

Where the FUCK is that isaac dlc already holy shit

"Late 2019" afaik

t. Couldn't complete an all zones run

first of gungeon does not have true procedural dungeons, all of it's rooms are premade
secondly there's WAY more to rogue than just procedural generation (which gungeon barely qualifies for) and perma death
like if your game aint turn based to some extend, it aint like rogue

Necrodancer is hands down the best one. It's so much fun to just replay and replay even without any goal.

Attached: 1513899981431.gif (800x450, 786K)

That's not the point. I agree that saying Gungeon is roguelike, period, is misleading. But the main things that separate Gungeon from other twin-stick shooters are permadeath and randomly generated dungeons, which are both elements that were popularized by Rogue. If there were a catchier term to encompass those two terms, it probably would've enterered the common vernacular by now, but I don't see it happening at this point.

So what you're saying is binding of isaac was so good it killed the genre for you

Too bad the amazing combat system and customizability is wasted on bland and repetitive floors.

What's that?
Tell me about it, user.

Just like Bumbo was late 2018.

I fucking love Necrodancer, and I'm happy that All Zones Mode is completely separate from the unlocking experience.

Never understood how it works.
Do you have to move like the song goes or song plays when you move?

The song's BPM is fixed, you need to time your movements with the beat. If you move off-beat (or not at all), your turn is skipped and enemies move normally on that beat. Later levels have faster songs, so you need to react faster.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I disagree about it being unpolished
shooting might not feel impactful, but killing blow is very satisfying as it gibs enemies with a wet sound. Gun upgrades change damage output drastically (unlike boredomlands), which makes late game shooting almost always insta-kill for some enemies

Just okay TOME

It's alright, game even has headshots

If Cadence of Hyrule doesn't get a dungeon only mode or something I don't think I'm gonna replay it much. I don't wanna walk through all of Hyrule every time I play the game.

It's a step in the right direction. If Nintendo can reverse some of their previous disaster decisions and start collabing with talented and motivated fans like the AM2R guy, we could be deadset for a Nintendo renaissance.

Procedural just doesn't have common cash in lingo terms.

How the fuck are people so shit at this game, I beat the Dragun on the second day I owned this game

Good mechanics, not a lot of content.
Needs a mode where healing isn't super easy. I barely had to learn any patterns because you have so much health and every enemy drops hearts.

I got Enter The Gungeon from Epic store and that game is raping my shit. I can't get past the 2nd level.

I don't remember this game EVER getting a discount. This year's upcoming Summer Sale will be no different. Why are the devs such Jews? It's been years since the game was released, give it a fucking price drop already.

>thinking that Ed’s actually going to finish Repentance before the end of the year
You’re new to this, aren’t you?

Attached: IMG_1789.jpg (281x349, 16K)

It's built based on a stolen work iirc and now abandoned by the dev

>literally all I want is a nuclear throne sequel with 60+ fps and actual developer support

Attached: 1560641845248.jpg (640x479, 36K)

What makes nuclear throne and isaac so good?
sell me those games, I don't know much about this genre.

>TFW Fell for the twinstick trap
I still cannot believe I was stupid enough to pay money for this. Two years later and I am still fucking mad

>isaac
breaking the game, synergies

I have faith

Attached: Routes.jpg (640x1108, 78K)

wait what is forest?

Actually is fun

I did play Kenshi roguelike-style single-unit and enjoyed it more than the basebuilding side. Thanks user, will try the other ones you listed.

Looking for something similar to Darkest Dungeon or Hand of Fate 2, anyone?

I guess there is no accounting for having shit taste

>???
>Forest
>Basement

Attached: 1520728185429.png (538x442, 138K)

Since when is Basement -1 a thing

Route path concepts that the anti team had, was planning to implement them in an update at some point.
Basement -1 would probably be the void now, forest was the true ending they had in mind

Source?

Why does it look like you loop from basement -1 to basement?

You can if you open the console and spawn a Skeleton Key in an item room. Checkmate retard.

Any good mobile roguelites besides necrodancer?

>STILL mad about mountain dwarves
OBSOLETE

>furusato no kakigori
>kakigori
And here I thought I wasted time learning the word. The translation is fake if anyone wondered.

I want a remake or sequel so bad bro. Closest you'll get is pic related or that weird sort of sequel to it " The Awakened fate Ultimatum". Try to emulate both if you can.

Attached: file.png (800x800, 1.11M)

Sucks the sequel was so bad, that was a pretty good game

ZHP and Guided fate were great, Awakened just didn't have the same art style and failed.

why not mibe

based CK user
>gets 4 updates in this month
>Catacomb kids is fucking dead

The scaling kinda sucks.

This game made me want a 3D collectathon rougelike

Anyone play this? How is it?

Attached: file.jpg (1920x1080, 116K)

Roguelites and likes are awful, I want to learn and improve at an actual consistent game designed by a person, not flounder around in a brand new generic maze shit out by a computer. To be completely honest a lot of problems I have with these games would be alleviated if I had better reflexes, but I still wouldn’t like them and they still wouldn’t be fun

>Implying ed actually has anything to do with isaac development at this point

The Binding Of Isaac is one of the greatest games ever made. Fuck you if you disagree.

Name 5.

Enemies are gay as fuck in this game. Worst design I've seen in a while.

Nah man, this game sucks shit.

it's alright. not worth the cash, though.

Gungeon fucking sucks

Yeah lol and six hours of static nonsense that your tv produces is probably the best movie in your opinion too right?

The systems are designed by a person, and that's what you're engaging with. The randomization just makes it so that you can't rely on being able to predict everything that's coming. It also helps to create emergent gameplay scenarios that create new situations based on the systems of the game.

gungeon only sucks if your first roguelite was NT or BOI

>Overuse of a single color

Why do game developers do this? No one likes pink this much.

i played both of those before gungeon

i personally played gungeon first and i couldn't get into NC due to how fast it was lol. i'm sure it's good but if you start with one it's pretty impossible to get into the other

Crypt of The Necrodancer is fucking garbage, why does the gaming community love trash?

Something about tome never seems to click with me, I boot it up every now so often and just end up forgetting about it

>muh speed

It's good, you just have shit taste.

Why does everyone who shits on Gungeon go on to fellate an unfinished game by a hack developer who had modders polish up his game after a year of no updates?

Attached: 1505721246180.jpg (785x785, 65K)

You are literally too gay to live. Faggot.

compelling arguments from both sides

You should be able to predict it though, the foundation of a fair game is consistency. Just look at the masterpiece of his last game, Super Meat Boy is great because it’s always your fault when you die, and you learn from every death, maybe you jumped too early or too late, maybe you jumped too high or too low, but the inputs you need to press and the timing on them for a specific level never changes, it’s the same every time and that’s why it’s fair, as long as you’re physically capable of pressing the buttons in quick succession and are willing to put in the effort. The binding of isaac on the other hand, you walk into a room, and maybe an enemy jumps in your path (randomly, as most enemy patterns are random) and you didn’t react fast enough. Maybe half a second ago their was a subtle warning that it was coming, but that doesn’t matter if you don’t have a good reaction time. Some people will struggle with the game naturally, and some people will breeze through it even with the hardest settings, with no real effort on their end. The difference between the two people would be absolutely minimal in a real life situation, having a reaction time that’s 100ms faster than average is completely unnecessary EXCEPT in an arbitrary setting that you may use to feel better than other people. The thing is, you could get that setting for free by just going to a reaction time test website, it just doesn’t have good marketing.

What are some good roguelikes with meta progression? I like the idea of some dungeoneering survival where you can prepare and stuff. like if nethack had a town and shops before actually entering the dungeon

>want to play ToME again
>read next big QoL update so decide to just wait
>know it's going to take like a year
aaaaa when's next CDDA update?

is there a good way of testing unidentified magic in nethack without blowing myself up?

I really hope Spelunky 2 is good. It was supposed to come out this year, but there's still not a single word on a release date, so I'm guessing it won't be coming.

Attached: 24190330388_dd732b0eb7_o.jpg (1920x1080, 148K)

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (any of them)

damn i can't think of any more lol

It's the roguelite most like rogue, with a fun gimmick, multiple characters that play differently around that gimmick, and item variety that makes every run interesting. It is the best roguelite, period.

Attached: 1538044560065.gif (406x449, 1.4M)

roguelike means games with awful design?

>No Switch Spelunky

Gay.

How’s this? Been playing gungeon for over 400 hours and starting to get tired trying to complete a Gunslinger run

Attached: 50DC2709-684A-4F41-A922-1AEDCFBA7471.png (300x360, 195K)

means game like rogue

It's okay, just very content light. You've got four level "types" (Fire factory, ice city, sky temple, and jungle base) with two bosses each, and the levels have varieties based on the time of day. Things get shaken up a bit at the end with the introduction of a new level type and a couple new bosses, but they're nothing spectacular since by that point you're usually so kitted out you just sorta roll through them anyway. The only real sell is the variations on each of the four (technically six, two are alts) characters, who all have some unique gimmick.

What's the best rougelike to get?

best starters are
FTL
Gungeon
Binding of Isaac
Nuclear Throne

those will give you a basic idea of the genre

Necrodancer.

FTL is amazing.
Nothing like sitting down with a beer and doing a run. The music is awesome too. Makes you feel like a Star Trek captain in some sort of crisis.

youtube.com/watch?v=mG6Ys2opFD0

already played all of them.
replayed super after replayed sky and my god did it feel like a downgrade

I'm surprised there isn't a FPS roguelike running on like the build engine or something akin to that, simple 2.5D sprites, randomly generated and hard.

I'd replace Nuclear Throne with Spelunky. What's the point in recommending both gunngeon and nuclear throne when they're practically the same game, except gunngeon being better in every way.

Attached: spelunkers.jpg (151x93, 8K)

My first roguelike was Elona+. Liked it because it has a baby mode where there isn't real permadeath so I could experiment a lot more with the game without restarting

>Roguelike
Dungeon Crawl:Stone Soup will be the easiest one for an entry level player to get into, but they keep slashing content with every update so I'd pick one and stick to it. Only reason I'm even entertaining the idea of updating past 0.14 is because the interface is a lot nicer in newer versions, but the next update is going to remove blowguns and needles for no apparent reason.

>Roguelite
Depends on your tastes. Nuclear Throne is an arcade game while gungeon is a slower-paced dungeon crawler. Isaac falls somewhere in the middle.

That's retarded, dude.

Tales of Maj'Eyal is about as RPG as you're ever gonna get in the genre.

Darkest Dungeon has progression even if your whole perty dies.

>What's the point in recommending both gunngeon and nuclear throne when they're practically the same game, except gunngeon being better in every way.
They share one trait, in that they're topdown shooters. The two games are nothing alike in practice. Gungeon and Nuclear Throne is Apples and Oranges, they're both topdown shooters but one's a dungeon crawler and one's an arcade shooter.

>but the next update is going to remove blowguns and needles for no apparent reason
Darts is a good change.
>0.14
Piss easy version where everyone has infinite Haste and Tomb is babby mode.

okay, but not recommending Spelunky is a fucking sin. You have 3 top down roguelites there, why not include one platformer? It is also by far the most well designed of them all.

If you're talking about roguelikes there's DoomRL, but if you're talking about an actual FPS then that's more a roguelite and there's Paranautical Activity

Not recommending NT when the modding community is so unreal is a fucking sin too. Why not recommend them both?

wow really?

I still think the guy you're responding to was correct. The difference in what is asked of the player is adaptation vs memorization, where memorization bores the hell out of me. The randomization needs to be well-tuned though so that it's fair and doesn't throw the player into bullshit.

Most "rogue"lites here have more in common with literally any ARPG than Rogue though.

I regret getting Dead Cells
what makes roguelikes fun is the weapon/item variation but in this game every weapon group is quite the same and trying different runs doesn't feel much different

Attached: q51aughu8j531.png (640x640, 551K)

Melee gives you good protection but you need to put yourself in the dangerzone. Try playing Eyes and using ranged weapons since his active (pushing projectiles away) and (good) ultra (pushing monsters away) enable him to do whatever setup you want.

bad user
do NOT suggestion HoF2 before 1
2 fixes so much wrong with 1 that going back can be really janky and unenjoyable
on the same merits some people might get put off by some of the jank in 1 and never try 2, so I get it kinda. Just think they should play in order and really appreciate the game, because I fucking love Hand of Fate 1 and 2.

Need to go back and try to get some other endings.

cmon bro

What's this?

Thanks user. That's quite interesting.

You're telling me the twin spear thing and the combat boots feels the same? Sounds like you haven't unlocked any of the good weapons senpai

The dev is just a lazy nigger programming the game in gamemaker, that being said it's a great game.

Going by how the game looks, I'd rather they pushed it back to polish it up because it looks objectively worse than the first.

Attached: dims.jpg (1600x900, 474K)

Thank you, Master Zir.

looks based off Dicey Dungeons

You guys fucking memed me into buying Crypt of the Necrodancer just now. Gameplay looks fun, better be worth the $15 since I missed the E3 sales.

>used to think gungeon was better than nuclear throne
>I have played NT nonstop for the past few days
how the fuck, this game is like heroin

Attached: 1560713239573.png (384x384, 189K)

you'll regret it, user

>dozens of failed attempts to get the Lich
>stop playing for a couple weeks
>hop back in
>turn on rainbow mode for an easier time
>Owl is the S-tier drop
>alt+f4
I can't believe I put 110 hours into this garbage game

Yeah, not a huge fan of how it looks either. I think the massive thing here is lack of shading, if he adds that back in, it'll immediately look a lot better.

Attached: 1535623575045.jpg (1280x1440, 699K)

>implying owl is not god tier

The fuck, looks like a flash game from 2012

It's a great game, but why would you buy just before the summer sale?

I sincerely hope that the gold nuggets stuck in the ground are placeholders, because he's using the old textures and they don't fit in with the new artstyle at all.

>shitting on owl

>12000 bullet coming at me from every angle
>bird does nothing
>one singular bullet that is nowhere near me
>bird puts itself on cooldown
woooow
what a god-tier item
