PS Vita has the best dpad of all time

Sega Saturn.
This is also pretty good.

Sn30 pro

That controller is great but yes the D-pad is terrible.

Sadly this is correct.

Dualshock has the best D pad.
Also the switch pro dpad is pretty good .What's the problem?

>d-pad
fucken scrubs lamo

Attached: 1544194294312.jpg (1500x1020, 124K)

Suffers from the exact same problem as the problem as the pro controller.

This.

Switch Pro after you cover the inner half of each contact with tape

Attached: switch-pro-03[1].jpg (640x521, 84K)

This thing probably has the best DPAD I've ever felt this generation. Sadly the ergonomics is fucking garbage which is why I returned it.

Attached: 12312.jpg (2000x1333, 652K)

Which is...what? Stiffness?

Saturn and Genny 6-buttons are king.
Dreamcast is elder god tier

Or just buy one of the newer versions.

Tried that, doesn't work so good. The right part of the dpad takes more force to push down because i can never get the tape even.

I imagine he's talking about the problem in the OP dude

Do newer pro controllers have this fixes? I've been holding out on buying one because of this.

Attached: 1373098025441.jpg (251x247, 6K)

isn't that just a genesis controller

Its hit or miss from what i can tell. A friend has one of the newer smash pro controller with the same problem.

Yes, but it'll feel really weird as if it isn't part of the controller.

t. own both models of controllers

Total myth.

I can only speak for myself but the one I just bought through Google Express during that sale is working without issue. The dpad has not given me any issues that I've noticed and I've been playing a lot of 2D games (Indies and emulators.)

Not really, the Genesis controller is more ergonomic. I really wish this thing works with the Switch...

Attached: 123.jpg (600x395, 28K)

You can mod the pro controller by placing a few pieces of folded up stickytape beneath the pivot point. I did it on one of my pro controllers and I reckon it feels nicer than my Xenoblade 2 one now. Still no Vita d-pad but it's remarkable how much of a difference not even a millimeter of material makes.

Am I the only one who loves the pro controller D-Pad?

As someone who keeps their thumb in the middle, the d-pad is absolutely fucking amazing to use

I haven't encountered any problems with my D-pad. I have a model "d" controller I bought a little while ago.

Objectively better for fightan but a dpad is way more responsive for some games

DS Phat has the greatest d-pad in the history of all mankind. Ironically, the DS Lite has the worst d-pad in the history of all mankind.

Attached: 511AJNDBSKL.jpg (500x485, 33K)

the og ds also was indestructible, it was awesome

Thats a Saturn controller dumbass

Y'all have never used a classic RF Famicom D-pad.

It's absolute heaven.

Attached: Nintendo-Famicom-Controller-I-FR.jpg (800x560, 49K)

Good god, that satisfying click of the ps vitas d-pad is like sex in your finger tips.

Attached: My+fellow+man+of+taste+_7145827e5bec429921d6ccaeab83dc15.jpg (1000x563, 91K)

Anyone got the DQ Slime controller? The d-pad is actually a d-pad and it’s asymmetrical too. Don’t how how comfy it feels though

Attached: 936D1F6E-CF5E-4908-A176-EE762557EFC1.jpg (800x400, 39K)

I use a Horipad Switch Pro. It's awesome except for the dpad which is 4 buttons recessed down into the dpad circle and then a plastic leany thing goes down on top.

It does mean you can flip the wheel thingy or take it off to use the buttons, but it all feels like a 360 dpad tbqh

original ds or xbone

Sega Saturn model 2 objectively has the greatest d-pad in the history of controllers. Vita has by fat the greatest d-pad of any handheld.

8bitdo make some pretty excellent controllers that are compatible with Switch. I've got one of the recent SN30 revisions myself and the dpad feels great.

No, it's absolute garbage, especially compared to every other d-pad Nintendo's ever made. Was horrible for going through the shortcut menus in BotW and would have characters in 2D games like Binding of Isaac wander off in diagonal directions without my intention to the point I just started using the analog in it.

Traded in the Phat for a Lite years ago. I regretted it later.

this is the correct opinion

Attached: 1547907495144.png (599x563, 364K)

What the FUCK was Nintendo's problem? We got ugly shit for our NES and the Famicom (especially with the disk system) looked aesthetic as fuck.

>The of 3ds was indestructible
You avin a laff m8? I dropped it literally 1 foot off of the ground and it fucking exploded. In 2008.

the wii u pad is the best controller ever made. Its the only thing that feels right in my hands.

ps1

the og ds released in 2004 you dingus

this thing is weirldy comfy

I know retard it was a 4 year old model. Still new basically. Jesus.

no?
the original ds is built like a tank, I've had mine go through the washer and be fine, and the battery lasts as long today as when I first got it

You said 3DS though and they're not the same thing.

The hinge is paper mache tier m8

NES: minimalistic looks and shape along with being packaged with R.O.B. was to fool retailers into thinking it wasn't just a game machine

At least they didn't go as far as what they were originally planning to do.

Attached: 1555136162735.jpg (600x450, 53K)

Still pissed the final Dualshock 4 ditched the Vita d-pad that the prototype that.

it's not. that's the ds lite you are thinking of. ds phat is tough as shit

steam controller

Look again. The number 3 is not in that post.

At least our NES had removable (re: Replacable) controllers with a cord not in the god damn way of your hand.

see
you or some other user misquoted me, I said og ds not 3ds

I know why it was done. Our games were also more difficult because(and this is amusing in retrospect) America was obsessed with coin op gaming and Atari made everyone extremely nervous about video games in the home. So we got a big, gray brick with harder versions of games that were already difficult vanilla.

I miss North and South. Good game.

speaking of controllers does the ps4s analogue stick hurt anyone elses thumbs after a while?

Saturn & Genesis & og GameBoy

agreed
>Sega Saturn
>genesis

>360 tier Dpad

no.

Attached: IMG_20190502_215935.jpg (1475x867, 350K)

For some reason they also thought American consumers liked their electronics BIG which is also a factor in why the NES is so box like. That's also why the Turbografx-16 is so goddamn gigantic compared to the PC Engine's revisions despite 90 percent of the insides of the console being empty.

Xbone one has the best current dpad, it's clicky and responsive. Wish they made a controllor with the dpad and analog stick swapped.

After that you gotta go to a 8bitdo pad to get a decent game pad

I love the Genesis 6-button to bits, but I'm not getting that controller until they make a version that works on the Switch.

>360 tier Dpad
The fuck are you talking about
Have you ever used a 360 pad?

beep beep good controller coming through

Attached: Black_classic_controller_pro.jpg (4320x2432, 3.06M)

Fug I was phoneposting and I guess the autocorrect fucked me up

>no PS and Xbox

Why these controllers do always this shit?

The buttons being lowercase bothered me.

the Wiimote dpad was worse, it was as shit as the DS lite dpad but way more stiff

I often ended up with sore thumbs after playing Brawl with it , it was literally the reason that made me buy an used gamecube controller

8bitdo are blatantly Nintendofags considering the only reason they have made a Megadrive pad is because the MegaSG exists

360 dpad is straight up trash. single worst dpad in existence and it's not even close. dreamcast hurts if you use it too much but at least it's fucking functional, the 360 one is just literal shit.

That's because children learn lowercase letters first. I never realised this until my niece had a hard time reading they keys on my keyboard as they are all uppercase

GCN dpad could literally cut your thumb.

I know the 360 one is shit, the Saturn one is nothing like the 360 one

This was so good. Much better than the launch controller that felt like an unergonomic weightless hunk of nothing.

Seriously though.. Wii, Wii Pro, Wii U Pro controllers all had awesome d-pads. What the FUCK happened to the Switch Pro d-pad?

Sega and MS actually go out of their way to block 3rd party controllers unless you get a license from them. Why do you think you can't just plug a PC USB controller into an Xbone and have it work?
Hell Harmonix had to wrangle with Microsoft to allow them to use Xbox 360 Rockband 1-3 controllers on the Xbone's Rock Band 4, and even then they needed to use a dongle and wireless controllers only.

Being circular doesn't mean it's a 360-style pad, brainlet.

>and its asymmetrical too
This has never mattered

it's the same bullshit. fuck the saturn pad

They dropped the d-pad technology that they used during the wii/Wii u era to distance as much as possible from that brand. The result is the literal shit that is the joycon dpad and switch pro controller dpad.

>PS Vita
only incels had one

Anybody tried one of these? seems ideal.

>6 face buttons
>2 sets of triggers
>d-pad designed to work well with fighting games
>xinput support for PC

Attached: New-Hori-Fighting-Commander-768x461[1].jpg (768x461, 30K)

it's still shit.

Meant for

>less buttons
Are you fucking blind? It has more buttons

Weird, was the opposite for me.

WOAT easily

>Dirty as fuck nails
user stop

I have the 360/Xbone version. Works like a charm. Wish there was a Switch version instead of that shitty pad they actually released.

Saturn JP pad is the best by a wide margin

The PC keyboard

I still wonder why 6 face and 4 start/select buttons are not standard

Not me. Got it off google images.

Nah, I got the Xenoblade 2 pro controller and it was a huge difference from the Splatoon 2 pro controller

What makes it shit?

How fat are your thumbs, Jesus

Who the fuck uses d-pads?

Not as good as the snes pad.

Attached: IMG_20190502_215104.jpg (1920x1080, 409K)

It's the best feeling controller of them all. Shame the dpad sucks ass.

This. I feel like I'm jacking off whenever I'm holding a switch pro controller. But when I use the d-pad I get the disappointing realization that I'm a lonely fuck

Sony and later Microsoft copying the PS controller's basic button layout.
N64 and Saturn both had 6 buttons but since Sony ruled the market for two generations that's what everybody copied instead.

But it has a greater range of motion due to being circular, it has tactile response (the "clickyness") to confirm your inputs, it's confortable/ergonomic, it's rugged/durable. I really don't see how someone can legitimately prefer the Super Nintendo controller, much less a third-party clone of a Super Nintendo controller.

You never used a Saturn JP controller if you think that. Saturn and Genesis 6 button controllers were sex for your fingertips.

6 front button controllers are the only proper way to play most n64 games desu. If the hori 360 pad wasn't a piece of shit that broke super easily I'd say it was the best controller I ever used.

Attached: 51ECDcIkQGL._SX679_.jpg (679x509, 18K)

You can easily fix the pro controller dpad, just open it up and put some folded tape under the pivot, or tape the inner part of the connectors.

I agree OP. For some reason, there's so much latency between a button press and a response in game. What a mess.

Had a third party 6 buttons ps1 controller, with turbo and macros programming, and played street fighter alpha 3 all the time, made it more comfortable. They should abandon the pressure sensitive thing already

Was lurking and it seems there is a retroreceiver for those. And retrobit has some brook's adapter that can work on the ps4

As far I recall, Sega was never a bitch with that, like the genesis that had a bunch of options even from other consoles due to that controller port that was a standard.
Saturn had a couple of 3rd parties versions, I had one with turbo and a circle dpad that still works. Now, they are stupid for not releasing more of the official Saturn Model 2 controller, or that PS2 version for current gens and pc

BTW if someone could provide a decent alternative with a similar layout I'd love you forever.

>it has tactile response (the "clickyness"

I have no idea what you mean by that when it comes to the saturn controller.
I've used it and not once did I ever feel the dpad was "clicky" The snes pad on the other hand was very "clicky".
Either its because you're boomers and have nostalgia for this controller (I'm a zoomer)
or the pad made by retrobit was shit

Attached: IMG_20190502_214226.jpg (1920x1080, 450K)

So basically I could have the ultimate fighting game collection in a portable with good controls, but it failed because other reasons

To be perfect it needed a 8 way dpad. Face buttons of same size are the right idea

Dualshock won the war and Sony is afraid to change that. And sony even manages to fuck up their controller each new gen with more silly gimmicks and worse triggers and weaker dpads.

I actually meant Sony and MS, whoops.

The WiiU Pro controller has a great dpad.

Indeed. Wish I didn't need a 3rd party dongle to use mine on the Switch.

>or the pad made by retrobit is shit
It's this. The L and R buttons aren't even microswitches like the original, and the d-pad seems to have different materials used on it iirc, which makes it feel different. I'll have to buy an actual saturn controller before I can confirm this myself though.

Smash one is working fine for tetris

What do you expect. Xbox has a shit d-pad and the switch pro is a complete rip off of it, so of course the d-pad isnt great. They tried to improve it though, they just failed miserably.

You shouldn't anymore. They added native wiiu controller support a long time ago in a system patch.

DS lite has the greatest dpad of all time

I hated the snes controller
>stiff ass dpad
>awful start and select buttons
>subpar shape
it was okay for the time because you had way more buttons than the most common sega controller but otherwise its lame and the NES controller is actually more comfortable to use

>people who actually used the original sing its praises
>use a third-party clone (albeit officially licensed, but nonetheless still a third-party clone)
>it's doesn't have all the idiosyncrasies of the original
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW

Attached: 1370792170461s.jpg (197x233, 6K)

The switch in general dropped the ball really hard controller wise. Joy con buttons suck ass and are fucking tiny, and the pro controller is just a Chinese knockoff quality Xbox controller

yeah and im telling you it's shit compared to the snes.

>uses a third party knock-off as their evidence

Seriously
Nigga
?

On dualshock4, the touch thing was stupid. Dpad seems about the same. Triggers are ok but pic related for ps3 was the best. Vibration could die and not everyone would miss it. Same with gyro controls

Attached: 61cC5kmZCKL._AC_SL1500_.jpg (1199x599, 49K)

But is it clicky?

I've used the saturn pad when I was younger. It was shit.

Does any PS4 game actually use gyro controls? If Gravity Rush did I never used it.

You're using third-party clones of both the Super Nintendo and Saturn controller, so your opinion is inherently warped from what both of those controllers are actually like. It's like calling Resident Evil 4 shit because you only played the Zeebo version of the game.

best controller coming through

Attached: 91qahZOIs6L._SX342_.jpg (342x360, 12K)

Kill yourself

What does that do?

Apparently not many but I meant in general. Like vita's rear touch or ds4 lolshare button

>spend fucking 80 bucks on a controller
>expect everything to work well
>go to forum to bitch about the awful d-pad
>"Mine works fine! All I had to do was open it up and put scotch tape underneath of where the dpad goes!"
Fucking shills I swear. Someone says this tape bullshit everytime the dpad comes up

Attached: 1560199676422m.jpg (1024x576, 55K)

do any NEO-GEO reproductions with USB feature a proper microswitch array in the D-pad?

I'm really curious to try them out but I don't have a neo-geo to use it with obviously.

Attached: sf.png (732x736, 146K)

It's actually not half bad as a 6-button 2D controller.

OP here

Attached: this.gif (300x186, 1007K)

Is there any reason not to just save $50 and buy a 3rd party one? Most of them look exactly the same

The controller is amazing in all other aspects, so if the tape mod makes the d-pad actually usable (haven't tried it yet), it's a very solid controller overall. Although for 80 dollars, the d-pad should work out of the box, fuck Nintendo for letting that slide.

now you know why every thread about the dualshock 4 features somebody whining about the d-pad on it even though DS4s are used by some of the best fighting game players across any game.

Pure misdirection.

Attached: punk[1].jpg (360x360, 16K)

The PS3 neo geo controller had microswitches I'm pretty sure. They're mad rare though

DS4 hands down for me.
I don't know why it doesn't get more love it is perfect for precision and control which is what I want most in a dpad.
Each button is segmented yet allows for the user to easily roll around. Just enough press to the buttons but not too hard as to make it feel like separate buttons.
From fighting games to danmaku to platformers this thing rules. Switch Pro is probs my fav controller as a whole but nothing beats the DS4 pad.

Attached: d4 dpad close.jpg (455x290, 29K)

Not baiting, genuinely asking: what's wrong with the d-pad on the pro controller? I haven't had any issues with mine. Is it registering diagonals on a straight input or something?

DS1 is 10x better

I hate segmented buttons and find them very uncomfortable. I wish Sega still made controllers.

> Is it registering diagonals on a straight input or something?
Yes, and it's even worse than the 360 controller's dpad.

>spend 20 bucks on a wireless adapter
>get to play switch with my DS4
Problem solved

Attached: D7FtRriV4AIRW3Z.jpg (1024x922, 91K)

Not that guy but my only issue with the pad is that it is too easy to get inputs you don't want. Like if you don't perfectly press up you will inadvertently also hit left or right.
It's not a problem in every game but in some fast pace and precise games it can really irritate me.
Tetris 99 is the most prime example, I couldn't count all the miss drops I had when it first came out and I played on the Pro.

I wonder why I haven't experienced that. I used the d-pad exclusively in my playthroughs of Celeste, Katana Zero, Strikers 1945, and several other fairly high precision games.

For example, a lot of time going right will register as up or up will register as right. For me it was the biggest pain in the ass during tetris. Anyone who says they have 0 issues should really try playing that

The dpads worn out fast. DS2 and 3 didnt had this problem

>buy a controller
>doesnt bring a manual, despite having useless pieces of paper in the box
>you have to read it online
>you have to download firmware for updates
The age we have reached where some controllers are outdated when you buy them

Because they mod the dpads and they buy new controllers often

Seething poorfag

>467453221
>t. douchebag who has never actually used the saturn pad

Attached: thisisbait.jpg (625x626, 24K)

>sn30 pro
>joycons have 4 way diagonals
>ds4 with a cheap USB adapter
I don't see a reason to ever buy a pro controller.

Attached: funny-Asian-kid-sign-free-hugs.jpg (449x642, 47K)

Splatoon.

split joycons are better for splat tim

really? gotta try it then.

Behold the best SNES pad in the history of mankind.
I remember actually getting very upset when the d-pad and buttons on mine started getting mushy after years of use.

Attached: 1541010477042.jpg (825x430, 42K)

it's basically using your wii mote

do the tiny joycon sticks work fine?

I miss waggle aiming. Wii still has the best version of RE4 purely because of that.

It's fine if your hands are tiny, but awful otherwise.

I personally really dig small sticks, it has less travel whenever you're flicking it left and right.

Quite a shame that the Nintendium mines ran dry right after they started phasing in the new DS generations. I would've liked a Switch with that kind of durability.

/Vitagen/ sends their regards

Attached: 1551003863735.jpg (2448x2448, 848K)

When I was a kid I recognized upper case letters better first, but I was taught both upper and lower case at the same time.

Also it's easier to distinguish lowercase letters than uppercase letters. And look at your keyboard.

This or dualshock 1/2.

>handhelds before the DS Lite could go through wars, washing machines, being left outside in snow for ages and still come out playing fine.
>DS Lite hinge breaks naturally on it's own

I'm super careful with opening and closing my gold Triforce 3DS just in case. The paint on it is starting to flake off on the sides though.

>Each button is segmented yet allows for the user to easily roll around
That's because it's only segmented above the case, not underneath.

I don't think that's true?
>dhbpgqau
vs
>DHBPGQAU

Tbh dpad on the M30 feels way better than my Retrobit Saturn controller. Ergonomics wise Saturn definitely wins out because it has a little extra room to dig into the palm but the M30 feels much more satisfying and well built.

Actually, looking it up I might be mistaken. I read about it on Reddit.

>the og ds also was indestructible
youtube.com/watch?v=Y9NZHRNF_g0

Hold up desu doesn't filter to desu anymore? Since when did that happen?

Lowercase letters form more distinct shapes. It's actually something you learn in marketing and journalism classes that people can more easily distinguish lower case letters than upper case letters.

Believe it or not, the motion controls work for the ds4 and it's really fucking tight

Attached: worlds-largest-gummy-worm-1.jpg (1000x1000, 177K)

Capital T bypasses it

tfw no kanji buttons

while i would be interested because of the better dpad ive gotten used to the asymmetrical layout from using xbox and the switch controllers, does xbone have gyro? Is its dpad also shit?

That's sort of dumb.

Fixes the d-pad input issues that the earlier Switch Pro Controllers had, see OP

Really? I find vitas dpad very disappointing compared to dualshock. That plastic gap between the individual directions combined with the concave slope of the buttons from the inside out makes it feel much better than vitas single flat surface to me

>Small as fuck
>hard as fuck
>shitty feel
Boy as ninty hasn't made a good dpad since the Phat

ahhh shit I have that same SNES USB controller!

>does xbone have gyro?
nope
>Is its dpad also shit?
It's not as bad as the 360's, but I still think it's very mediocre. It's placement probably taints my opinion though.

YES!
First reply, best reply.

I consider myself a D-Pad aficionado, and you are spot on.
I would say that the DS Phat was a close second if you wanted speed. Did not like the DS Lite/Wii era D-Pads much myself. PlayStation just needs to get their D-Pads clickier to be good. Xbone S is okay for selecting stuff now, but feels off for movement type stuff.

The Razer WildCat had cool separate D-Pad button that I actually got used to and loved, like a Switch fake D-Pad, but actually good, so I consider it up there. (Raiju is now much worse)

Never used it, but I believe you.
Oh I have one. It is better than the original SNES controller, and I use it sometimes, but I personally wish it was more... IDK, clicky. Just me.

Dual shock is good, but not clicky enough.
Switch feels okay, albeit too raised, but is actually inaccurate...

Accuracy...

THE WHOLE POINT OF USING A D-PAD.

does the dpad suffer from the same issues that the pro controllers do or was that just a bad first batch?

I bet, every new hip company logo has to be minimalistic, single-colored and usually a lowercase letter

the dpad for the sn30 i mean

Too bad it has no games and it's DEAD.

Ergonomics I always prefered MD/Gen 3 button controller.

I heard that the Xenoblade version had a fixed D-Pad, but cannot confirm. I'm mostly waiting for an Animal Crossing edition, or new colors. Don't want to buy the same color twice.

But that's beside the point, it is too wobbly. Even if it was accurate, I feel it is too wobbly, like a Pre S Xbone D-Pad, or any old Xbox D-Pad. Is it good for half circles? Sure. Anything else? No.

For Nintendo, DS Phat was the best. SNES is okay. Wii/Lite were the worst. Can't remember what I thought of Wii U.

fpbp

Good on anons knowing what's up with that beauty of a D-Pad.

I'm a poor PCfag and I don't wanna shell out shekels for expensive as fuck console controller, is there any good cheap third party controller?

I still have mine. The START doesn't work anymore though.

SN30 Pro is like $35-45 USD.
They're making one with handles soon, too, which could be good to replace a normal controller.

IDK why that isn't out yet.

I unironically like the d-pads on some of these third party ps1/2 controllers

Attached: IMG_0701.jpg (3932x2968, 2.74M)

does that work on the atari?

I'm pretty new when it comes to owning Nintendo products. Have they always been this Jewish? Like charging $70+ extra if you want a useable controller. Also seems like their first party games never go on sale. Maybe 10 dollars off sometimes at most

it's called the nintendo tax and it's very real

I will be forever pissed that Sony didn't slap the Vita D-Pad onto the Dualshock 4 like in those prototype mockup images that were floating around. God what a perfect D-pad, maybe second to Saturn.

Attached: file.png (900x547, 521K)

You're correct but to say the Saturn d-pad is on par with 360's is fucking delusional rambling. It's the same dome-piece but it's way more precise and tactile than the weird mess that is the 360 d-pad

How new? Cause I bought my November last year and I've noticed some issues when playing shit like Necrodancer

I have one, it's actually pretty good. D-pad is the best you'll get from a readily available fightpad, as I don't think there's a reliable way to use a Saturn pad as a PS4 controller (Raphnet's adapter and the new USB ones seem to just work as PS3/legacy pads and act up with every game besides UNIST, weirdly enough)

I have a logic3 DS2 for like 15 dollars and that circular dpad is alright.

Unfortunately, this is true.

user I...

ever since i got my vita all other dpads feel like pure shit. Why wont snoy just fucking use it in their controllers. THEY ALREADY FUCKING MADE IT

this
the N64's d-pad is surprisingly really comfy to use. Shame that very few games actually used it. If you ever get the chance, boot up DK64 and play the original Donkey Kong arcade machine in Frantic Factory, the d-pad actually works there and it feels great.

My hinges got absolutely shattered. I still haven't replaced it to this day, even though it's been a decade by now.

fuck if I know I didn't have any issue getting mine but I bought it when they were first released
