When you powerslide you get a mini turbo
If you do three mini turbos in a row you get fire (red exhaust)
If you get fire while over a turbo pad you get sacred fire (orange exhaust)
If you get fire while over a super turbo pad you get ultimate sacred fire (blue exhaust)
Each tier is faster than the one below it with USF going over your speed cap
Highest tier is kept until you either run out of reserves or hit a wall/brake
Reserves are filled by continuously doing mini turbos or getting airtime (see the vertical bar)
You want to fill the bar as much as possible for each mini turbo as it gives you more reserves
You want to hold onto USF as long as possible whenever you get it

I finished Adventure Mode on Hard today. It is absolutely absurdly difficult. Mostly because if you make a single mistake or get hit by an item, you're not going to win. The CTR challenge on Hard on Crash Cove was bullshit as well. The location of the T means you get put last and have to make up hard.

Yesterday, I was pretty sour on the unlock mechanics, but after finishing Adventure Mode trophies and finishing a few of the extra things splashing in some online here and there, I've unlocked all of the extra characters.

I hope they patch 60 fps in.

Bros, I'm kinda sucking at this game. Never played CTR before. Got up to Pinstripe in Adventure but he's buttfucking me as hard as my uncle Brad used to.
I've got a hang of power-sliding and turbo boosting consistently. Is that what it's called when you press the opposite shoulder button three times while drifting? I've got a hang of that, and I understand that I should be hopping when I'm on a ramp, and saving TNT and beakers and shit. But I still tend to get buttfucked on Medium and above, usually just from speed alone.
How do I git gud? Any tips? I'm really loving this game and I don't want to give up.

On the main menu, do local arcade -> time trial and pick a map you like. complete it once and you'll unlock the ability to race against N Tropy.
He'll absolutely kick your ass, BUT you can watch him and see how he plays. Try to mimic him and you'll learn how to get good.

Save up 3 rockets and spam him during the final lap before the race ends. Try to keep up until then.

Remember to only boost right at the top of the bar when powersliding.
Other than that, if you keep doing what you're doing and get better at it, you are better than 95% of players at this game.

There's this dude called Vick (The virgin) on Switch.

Once you learn the lay of the tracks, you can get better and learn when to drift and jump.

No, player skill is far more important than character choice. I mean of course it makes a difference but it would hardly ever be the main reason you won or lost.

Depends how skilled you and the other racers are. Using the right cart for the right track can you give you a slight edge but there is so many other ways to optimize your laps that it's really not a big deal.

There's no advantage to original; nitro lets you switch charactersm decals etc at will.

original just means you play with one character that whole save file, you're more free to pick characters in Nitro. up to you.

I absolutely hate the way speed karts control, it's so much worse than the original

The gap between Medium and Hard mode in this game is nuts. I started out on Hard mode not even knowing the controls and sort of learned along the way, but only got up to like 5th place finishes.

Eventually I switched it down to medium to get a hang of things, and it's a fucking breeze. I zoom through every course and get 1st place first try each time.

You can edge him out by sliding close enough to the edges, plus once you get to the large jump you should have enough turbo/timed your turbo slide correctly to get USF which will put you miles ahead of him

Extra racers and cosmetics are a lot faster to unlock playing online, that's about it.

It's got single player campaign, offline races and battles, local splitscreen. Wumpa coin payouts offline are dismal though.

I played on hard mode. Pinstripe wasn't that bad because his track is highly abusable. A skilled human player can rack up ridiculous speed with the Super Turbo pad, and a few bowling bombs aren't enough to stop them.
Oxide Station doesn't have any good speed spots until you've already hit 20 billion red potions. The only way I beat him was restarting until I got triple missiles at the start.

I agree, falling behind can be tough, but after overtaking him you’ve essentially won.

So I can still unlock stuff offline in the base game, but I'd just have to grind for it, whereas playing races with other players online unlocks stuff faster?

genuinely very happy about this, the real game only ran at 30fps, it would have felt very off if it ran at 60 after playing it at 30 for years. Also the frame rate is completely solid 30 which is better than 45-60 that most '60fps' games have.
