It doesn't hold up in the slightest, though. Every new Uncharted game has been better than the last, with UC4 being a big step up in quality. They should just cut the climbing parts though, or at least make them fun.

They were refining the formula, but run and gun was the intention from the start. If you played the train sequence in 2 hiding behind covers then you played the game wrong.
Drake pales in comparison to Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, both of which he is based off. He's like bad bootleg, a clone, a sham of what's better. He's like what sparks the electric jester is to sonic.

The new Tomb Raider games are unironically better than Uncharted because at least they feel like games. There's actual climbing mechanics with failure states. The higher difficulties are designed with the combat in mind and you're allowed to do things besides cover whack-a-mole. etc. They're still not great but at least they're not as ridiculously streamlined.

on a purely technological level there was simply nothing else even remotely close to this level in 2009, it actually more impressive than crysis it's just they didn't have the same horsepower to work with in terms of render budget.
Those things go a long way in terms of review scores, kind of like how tekken 3 is the best reviewed tekken game because it was a huge leap for 3d fighting games, meanwhile tekken 7 barely reviewed better than 6.
UC4 is the worst from a story perspective though.
