I never played a single Castlevania game, but Bloodstained is really good so I'll say yes, it is better than Symphony at the Disco or whatever you said.

It does some things better than SotN and some things not. It's pretty damn good though, way better than the DS Castlevania games by a country mile for sure.

Maybe, this game does everything better than previous Igavanias, outside music and overall aesthetics, really fun game.

I've heard people say this game is easy as pie. I'm breezing through most of the enemies but the bosses seem to have tons of health and hit like a mack truck. I haven't really been farming for materials or anything. Am I doing something wrong? I just beat those twin dragons on the spiral building.

It is. No reverse castle nonesense and the mechanics feel much more fleshed out. Also, Accelerator shard, even if you do only get in endgame. Wolf run can't compete.

Hard to say. What I can say is that IGA actually tried to deliver on what he promised, which is more than can be said for other KS-funded games.

To be honest I find them equal. They're both fantastic games. Depending on how they handle classic mode and the two other playable characters will make it better than sotn for me.

I'm seriously. I never played any Castlevania because I don't like the gothic aesthetic and the controls are awkward and bad. I do love all other metroidvanias though, I put like 120 hours into Hollow Knight, so I gave Bloodstained a shot and it's pretty dang good, despite having those shitty Castlevania controls where you CAN'T ATTACK UPWARDS. Dumb bullshit and gay aesthetic, but the crafting is awesome so I give it a 7/10.

you probably didn't get the drill sword early on.
alot of people stumbled upon it early and it turns bosses in to a cakewalk. just backstep and then melt their healthbar while standing still.

there are some shards you can get that melt bosses. flying sword melts through large bosses and keeps enemies away, drill sword is pretty good, and that portrait one is what i used to get free dps

Symphony of the Night was easy as fuck even if you didn't grind, especially because of how the experience gain system worked where you got 1.20^n times the base monster experience where n is how many levels higher they are than you coupled with the relatively low xp requirements for leveling up at the early levels. Here I've noticed the experience gain is completely flat.

You can tell they struggled with Unreal, and the game is held together with tape.

The sequel will have none of these problems.

No, SOTN is still better. Inverted castle is way better than the last 40% or so of Bloodstained where the level design drops off to an absolute dogshit level. Lava level, sand level, nippon themed lab all feel extremely samey and rushed.

What the fuck do you replace True Arrow with late game? With the book and Rank 9 it still does a lot of damage and costs only 30 MP meaning it's super spammable and effective even late game.

And what about Y button / red shards? Are there any non shit ones? Summon Bat is very good early game, but True Arrow quickly outclasses it.

There are a lot better shards than those user. Lots of them vary on situation. Like Toxic Cloud is amazing against bosses since very few are immune to poison.

The best red soul is by far the hellhound, it's a literal screenwide wipe for 500+ damage.
The best purple soul is by far the chain lighting.

People calling the game easy as pie are full of shit, at least relatively speaking. I played OoC, AoS and SotN, this is probably the hardest of the bunch. No shit it's not on the level of playing a DMC on DMD, but you have to rate the difficulty in comparison to its siblings. I don't get why people would go into a metroidvania for the main purpose of experiencing a hardcore challenge, anyway. Most people will need (and have needed) multiple tries for a handful of bosses in this game on normal already, anything more and you are putting needless roadblocks in a genre all about exploring.

You never replace true arrow because it never stops shitting damage. True arrow and the painting shard are absurdly overpowered for how easy they are to get and upgrade.
It's a little lion roller that follows you around like a cute motherfucker. You can knock it into enemies and it can block projectiles.

I'm looking into doing a new playthrough soon and felt very underpowered in this game compared to the usual Igavanias next to OoE. Learning that later bosses had 4k-10k life and I'm only doing 30-60 per hit means I'm having to hit them like 100+ times to kill them, when there has to be a better way.

Already rose up since I realized I paid $60 to wait an extra week for a $40 game and $10 worth of DLC.

It was worth playing through the game with all the graphics and extra FPS, since I fear the Switch version is going to be a bit jank from how things went down.

I just started playing the game today and am doing my first run as a blind Nightmare run and so far it is in fact a nightmare. I feel like it may have been a mistake.

I die in 2-3 hits to everything and am currently at the Galleon boss. I don't know how to dodge the large spray attack that literally covers the entire ship.

I think the "big bosses" in Bloodstained were pretty weak, perhaps the weakest aspect of the game IMO. They didn't have a lot going on for them. Compare them to any of the big bosses in the DS Castlevania games and it's like night and day.

You can start a nightmare run immediately by naming the file NIGHTMARE. So far I'm getting cockblocked by this attack which literally covers the entire boat and seems undodgeable. Literally all attacks do more than half my health so I die if the boss does it twice.

Symphony of the Night has been my favorite individual game for 22 years. I got it when it came out and it honestly changed my life.

This game is the first since it came out that honestly feels like it surpasses it. It obviously falters in terms of art and music but from a gameplay perspective and the level of care put into small features, Easter eggs, etc. It's the first since then that's felt on par in some places and surpassed it in others.

The aspects where it's lesser aren't bad, just middling and would hopefully be improved in a sequel. I really, honestly think I'll be playing this game for years, or at least until a sequel. It get so damn much right and I'm stupidly happy with it.

What are the good weapon skills? The only ones I've found useful so far are the ones that let you avoid attacks with guard points or I-frames.

Have fun dude. The game over screen is so excruciatingly slow that I rather spam potions to kill a boss on the first try than bother redoing the fight in a more clean manner. Playing an essentially insta-death mode would probably trigger the shit out of me, the game is just not designed around such a mechanic.

Here's the thing, though and i'm just gonna let you in on a little secret here, remove the aesthetic, cool music, atmosphere and visual flare, and suddenly all igavanias have fuck all going with them.
The reason SotN managed to become such a cold hard staple of videogames despite lacking in level design, challenge, and depth in combat, is because it was, and still is, a genuinely beautiful game, that beauty was motivation enough for you to explore the huge map more and seeing what more mysticism lies beyond.
however going into weaker systems like the DS and GBA, the emphasis on aesthetics and scope had to be compromised in favour of padding out the game with reused assets and grinding disguised in the form of souls/glyphs and "quests", this by default makes all the subsequent games inferior to SotN. or are you seriously going to tell me the reason you play these games is for the deep, challenging and thought provoking gameplay.

Grade is overall power and is increased by collecting more of that shard (up to 9). Rank increases and/or adds special effects after having it enhanced in the alchemy lab (again up to 9). At Rank 9, you can activate the shard effect without having to equip it.

It's a solid take on what could have been Iga's retelling of Castlevania 3, and only takes about an hour or so per run. It's good for about three solid runs if one works towards unlocking Ultimate Mode, with other variations for slightly different endings and personal challenges.

That last part is only true for passive shards.

One of the main reasons I enjoy Castlevania games as opposed to any other nonlinear 2D action platformer is because of the variety in equipment and spells that give you many different ways to approach any given situation, allowing for all kinds of replay value. Very few "Metroidvania" type games have this because of the amount of work it requires, most are more Metroid than they are Castlevania.

That's why OoE is legitimately my favorite nonlinear Castlevania. It combines that with a very fast pace that not even Bloodstained has and removes most of the grinding by making only a few glyphs drop from enemies

Haven't played yet, but here is the thing, as from Aria of Sorrow onwards, you can argue Syphony was surpassed in a lot of ways, either mechanics, quality of life and level design, even story for that matter, so Iga has surpassed Symphony multiple times, and I wouldn't be surprised if Bloodstain is, as a current game, is better too.

The thing is, Symphony is still the best, as package, music, bosses, stages, secrets and easter eggs, the overall artstyle, to not say the graphics, the games may play better since Symphony, and had build upon it's bases ever since, but none of them have been a complete package as Symphony was. They all were limited by their technology or budget, being GBA and DS games after all.

For years Iwanted an Igavania game to work on the tech needed to be a package as complete as Symphony again, and in theory Bloodstained should be that, but, without playing it yet, and even though I love everything I have seen of this game since release, I have the feeling it's not there yet, and I think that part of that is the effect of "This is Castlevania, but it's not", the direct comparison is it's selling point, but a the same time, it hurts it somehow.

It manages to fix soton's biggest issue, which was the fact you can grind yourself to be overpowered even if you're only using fists. It's almost mandatory you exploit anything you possibly can, which might get tedious but allows the game to stay challenging. Its visuals and music aren't even comparable, but the combat mechanics are a lot more fleshed out. I'd say it's a better game, but Sotn still has things it did better.

The best shards in the game are Void Ray and the light version of it The dps is fantastic, you can aim it in any direction, and the mp costs are basically nonexistent if you just keep tapping R2. Don't ever hold it, you can just tap to continuously deal the damage and regenerate between the enemy's i-frames.

But as far as damage goes Summon Hellhound is the best, 800+ damage nukes are fucking stupid good. Gebel's Glasses make spells have no cost. I bet all of the Boss Rush challenges in under a minute with Summon Hellhound + Gebel's Glasses

That's the exact argument I make for why Bloodstained is the best Castlevania game overall. OoE has a gameplay system I like more, and SotN looks nicer, but Bloodstain, combining its huge amount of content and not coming up short in basically any area, I think is able to edge them out

Did you pay attention to what he told you or read the flavor text of your new item? It's a moon slicer, you'll get a cue in the Gebal fight to slice the moon just don't murder him too fast

You have tofight Gebel, but don't kill him. Just get his HP low enough to where the moon starts glowing red, and then slash the moon with the Zangetsuto

Pay attention to the red moon in the boss fight and use Zangetsu's sword

100 damage a shot? That's it? Like I get that the gun gives you a ranged attack but it also seems pretty slow and weak outside of the special ammos. Not to mention it seems totally unviable unless you're constantly crafting full inventories of bullets or wearing the hat that gives you infinite shots. Pretty much all conventional weapons will outdamage it, combining them with shards will only make them more powerful. Even 1k damage a shot doesn't seem that impressive when you can get more DPS out of melee weapons + shadow clones.

You're not getting the infinite ammo hat before beating the final boss so it's pretty moot. In the same vein you're not getting infinite mana glasses either. They're both post-game items. Not to mention there are significantly more efficient mana-to-damage spells or even techniques. The critical strike with the whip comes to mind.

user, you can equip infinite rounds when you pick up the very first gun in the game. Infinite rounds are weaker than using any bullets that you can run out of, but they allow a standard attack with a gun where you don't have to worry about using ammo

The 100 damage figure I quoted was referring to using the strongest gun with infinite rounds. Worrying about DPS outside of boss fights is generally autistic, but rapidfiring diamond rounds is probably going to kill most bosses very quickly.

Name a single re-release of a 2D game that has been done good. You know they literally can't make these 2D graphics anymore right? They'd have to update it to HD. That means re-drawing them in HD, which means they have to re-draw it all. But to make ti economical they have to simplify the graphics, making it much more cartoony. That can work for cartoony looking games, but not for the more realistic proportioned SotN.

Listen dude I get it, you like guns. That's cool I'm glad you're having fun with them. I just don't see their value as a ranged weapon when I already have spells that do that job, and then can also use a faster, more powerful melee weapon if I ever want to conserve mana. Enemies are never particularly far away to warrant needing to snipe them with range attacks to begin with. If there is a flying enemy that's tricky to pin down there are already extremely high damage low mana cost homing spells that aren't locked to my weapon/ammo equipped. They just seem under-developed and gimmicky.

The point is that these remakes/remastered versions are meant and framed as the definitive verion, yet time and time again I see people just straight up ignore them soon after they get released. MMX and MM1 PSP remakes? Never re-released by Capcom, and everyone ignores them.

The companies see these as just cash-grabs, so they farm them out to devs who do it for the cheap.

The only good remaster that I've seen is Wild Guns and Ninja whatever, since it's taking the old game, and original assets, and simply making it 16:9 and adding new elements. It's done by the original devs, so there's real soul and care. I hate how niche random games like Wild Guns get this loving re-master, while much more prominent games get lazy emulation re-releases (Super Metroid, Mega Man games, etc). Imagine Super Metroid in 16:9, with new gameplay modes and a new map?
