No never played it be ause looky liked poppys
Yes, I remember it vividly, fun game
I played it back then
It was good. What killed it was a string of bad decisions from the start with a good product. It was too expensive for an MP game with little content. Then, starving of content they charged a lot for it, 10 dollars for character. Only 3 monsters and the fourth was expensive. When they went F2P the game was nowhere near the quality needed for it to be sustainable, and the balance changes to the meta and graphics killed the 1.0 fans (downgraded them)
But the characters were AWESOME. The banter, the shitton of dialogues and the world building was something really REALLY SOULFUL. I remember playing just to find out more of the lore which was interesting as fuck, and would love to know more about it even now. Gameplay was good albeit unbalanced.
Greed killed Evolve. 2K fucked up hard with it, they had a homerun in their hands.
It's really a shame, I seriously wanted a l4d successor but even today we don't have that
fun game ruined by micro-transactions mandated by publisher
If they had more development time and released another monster at launch/more characters, as well as some different game modes like monster vs monster it could have been far more successful.
Also, I think the general problem with asymmetrical multiplayer games is that you absolute have to have a team of the best players to have a satisfying experience, take for example:
>A great defence, trapper, assault but a shit medic
>A great monster
You're fucked because of one element here. The absence of a good healer or zone-control character (trapper), means the monster will have free reign to do whatever they want.
And this:
>Great defence, trapper, healer, but terrible assault
>Awful Monster Player
The lack of a good assault might mean the terrible monster player will either manage to eke out a progression to the final stage of evolution. Or, the team will just find the terrible monster player far, far too easy, and have an experience that isn't satisfying for what the loading time alone was worth.
But when everyone's good. And it's a level playing field. Perhaps when you've got a dedicated team of people who know how to play the roles, you'll have a great experience that could go either way. The problem was that it was just too rare to bother playing through the matchmaking again and again. That's why Evolve died in my opinion.
I know. I miss playing as Maddox or Hyde. The flamethrower effects on vanilla for example, were so fucking beautiful. The fire looked really good, how it lightened up the enviroment, how the monsters were burnt, how the fauna had their own AI reacting to everything and interacted with each other and the monster
Then there was Wraith who was so fun to play as. Stalking hunters and staying low as a unindistinguishable blob only to spring and stab one of them to death, dart around or feed. It was so cool.
The mystery about the monsters, the backstory of the Lazarus project and ChemSoldiers, how you realize the super soldier is actually a weeb, the insectoid guy talking about how they undergo the experiment to mutate into what he is only to lose the war in the end and how that was so fucked up, or the trapper that is a well known movie legend and he doesn't even know since he's been so long in the fringe systems.
So many endearing and some really fucked up grim details of the Evolve universe. Such a shame.
As a monster player, I found myself frustrated often because some combos were just insanely better than others. How I loathed Val tranq gun that softlocked you out of running away so easily. Lazarus being a sneaky piece of shit and reviving downed people with an I WIN button, like OW's Mercy. Some other trappers being really good at catching up with you, and paired with a high DPS like Maddox or Hyde your health chipped away really fast.
THEN, you bought the DLC monster, the Behemoth. Such a fun monster to play, but deemed OP because what made him slow and burly compensated it with the tremendous DPS that could down bad hunters in a single ambush. Then they nerfed him in damage, and left him as just a big rolling heap of shit. Val stunned Behemoth, basically, for the beginning of the match to the end. So you bought a no fun button.
It really had balance issues because of the assymetrical gameplay and listening to bad feedback. Instead of broadening both team options to outsmart each other, they downsized the maps and AI to an arena match in 2.0, and some problems were even worse. Some power ups and VIP preys weren't present anymore.
Gorgon was fun too. Shame never got to play her right.
bump for faggot op
HOW ABOUT MAKING THE MONSTERS HAVE A CHANCE AGAINST THE HUMANS? the ONE reason i was interested in this is the monsters. watch ANY top level monster player's twitch, or tourney on youtube. rare for the monster to win, humans just fuck them up, BULLSHIT
>l4d successor
Vermintide 2 is releasing a versus mode soon?
thats all i can think of.
Angry Joe hated it so that makes it 10/10
>OMG MICROTRANSACTIONS BAD
hell yeah fun and underrated, they should have done wayyyy more with it though
>game all about hunting monsters in a scifi setting
>its all innawoods shit no space ships/stations
oh well not the first game to squander its potential, kracken was best monster
Yeah, this. Pricing killed it. It's a shame, it was a nice game.
>Shredding your game into pieces before its even released and gaining an insane level of negative PR
Launched with 136 dollars of DLC at launch kek even capcom paced themselves better with cut content DLC.
The closest thing to l4d right now is probably Vermintide, though I saw people shitting on Vermintide 2. Not sure if it's good.
If you are looking for asymmetrical multiplayer, Deathgarden is a very good hide and seek game, way better than I expected.
shut up nigger
vermintide 2 is good, but it's being held back by it's comicaly inept devs, they're obsessed with unbeleivably shit rng and none of them play on anything above normal so there are a million issues on the hardest difficulty
Im just hoping Back 4 Blood will be the true successor.
if it doesn't have valve tier voice-acting and writing in the responses
its shit

Every dropship banter
I literally only remember it for the waifu of the year it held
Oh shit these are golden, so much of these are hilarious
I mean Evolves banter and writing was one of the only good things about it so i'm not super worried.
i liked it when I played the demo
when it went f2p I played for a bit but it was buggy and unbalanced
greedy fucks too
Great game ruined by bad PR and some poor decisions in an attempt to compensate for the poor PR.
Things were way too expensive for what you got. $15 for a single additional player monster character. It was a shame since, especially for a high profile game, the monster designs were creative and diverse in play and design. I actually got the art book since I was a big fan when it came out and they put some good thought into the designs.
The hunters were engaging and fun in a grimy sorta way. Everyone was a bit rough around the edges and so they played off the others and the situation well - the lore was a bit raw since we never got to see a whole lot of it but it was engaging. Hearing the dropship convos was super fun and showed great character for how short they were - basically, the writing and art team did amazingly.
Gameplay was pretty good - though its very clear certain monsters and hunters were better. The whole "counters" thing doesn't work when you can't change the character and one team only had one choice to make. If you were the monster and your 'counter' got picked you were fucked and had to hope they had shit team members.
I still play Stage 2 sometimes since the practise mode had all the characters unlocked. Its fun and they could have had a great franchise on their hands if they didn't fuck up the release and pricing so bad. Plus in their switch, they didn't do enough of some stuff and at the same time made some changes too big.
I knew it'd be a failure. Asymmetric multiplayer always is with the exception of dead by daylight which was a freak success.
>dead by daylight which was a freak success.
Indeed it was, it's a piece of shit
It's the normie appeal i guess
Is Earthfall any good?
MOTHER
Why not compare it to games like dbd and f13?
Also nosgoth way fukin fun too and got killed early by SE
I never expected it, but a meta grew that made it not enjoyable. How the fuck did they do that?
I was about to post that.
Good taste.
>meta
>not enjoyable
Why the hell are you surprised?
I am fucking surprised such a game even grew one. Of course meta's are not enjoyable.
Post some monster hips
TELL YOUR CHILDREN NOT TO WALK MY WAY
I miss the vore art for this one creature.
A nosgoth private server exists
many good times were had as the Behemoth where you could just become one with nature.
i honestly loved playing this game as wraith during the free weekends
but one thing i especially liked doing was toying with inexperienced players using cloak and dagger bullshit. sometimes i'd let them win if none of them rage quit by pretending to lose in a thrilling battle around the last objective
One of my favorite moments in this game was playing as a wraith
>Low health
>all four players right behind me
>arena active
>send out decoy and hide in bushes at bottom of a cliff
>watch the radar as all 4 fly right over me and go on to win the game
Why does dick know no limits? Why do men want to fuck everything?
Preparation for the future where we nuke everything
We need the ability to fuck anything and everything, otherwise we won't reproduce
I like how the bots are actually pretty hard
Asymmetric multiplayer is a bad decision no matter how you try to frame it.
It should've been straight Left 4 Dead game but with aliens.
I enjoyed it, wish it didn't die the way it did
I remember playing it early release. Guy playing as monster would always just diconnect just before he was killed to prevent him from getting a negative k/d/r
How can a AAA video game have as much raw SOUL as Evolve did? All of the characters, conversations, lore, places, monsters, fauna, EVERYTHING had some kind of story to it.
Is there a single successful game with asymmetrical multiplayer? Seems most of them don't survive the first year.
L4D, DBD
Kinda makes me even more sad about the nostalgia jerk off nowadays. Everything, even Evil Genius gets a sequel, but Evolve stays dead.
And you can't even play it for real with friends, because even new players will know something's wrong.
I remember playing Stage 2 and liking it, but feeling like some things were missing. Watched some vids of older versions and everything was there. Everything and even more. Those fucking blizzards were awesome.
Such a waste.
Dead by daylight didn't die, which is a success, comparatively.
not realy, dead by daylight seems to be working fine
Lives mostly on kids, manchildren and girl gamers on one side, and masochists or very angry jaded players on the other.
